Chapter 4

Zoisite opened his eyes to sunlight streaming in from the nearby window. It took him a moment to remember why exactly he wasn't in his own room in Kunzite's house. This was a much better situation to wake up to.

He turned his head to the side and found that the Master was already awake. He was smiling at him, as though he was quite amused by something. “I thought that, as my guardian, you would have been a lighter sleeper. I've been playing with your hair for the past twenty minutes.”

“I normally am,” Zoisite blushed, remembering then how much the Master of the past had liked his hair. There was only one reason he had kept it as long as he had, and it wasn't because he had any attachment to it.

The Master rolled over and out of bed. Zoisite watched him as he grabbed his clothes for the day, still in a bit of shock that he was currently lying in his Master's bed again. “You are welcome to use the shower if you want, I'll find us something for breakfast.”

“That won't be necessary, Master,” Zoisite replied as he slid out of bed himself. With a wave of his hand, he was fully dressed in his uniform again, clean, and with his hair tied back in its usual style.

The Master turned back around after he had his shirt on, and then paused when he saw that Zoisite was fully dressed. He stared for a moment before shaking his head and continuing to get dressed. “It's common courtesy these days to serve someone breakfast if they spend the night, unless you have things that you need to do right away. I suppose the other Shitennou might be wondering where you've been...” he trailed off, as if thinking that there was something he wanted to add on to that statement.

Zoisite started making the bed while the Master continued getting ready. “If you would rather I not mention this to them, that's not a problem.”

“That might be best, at least for now. And you don't have to make the bed.”

Zoisite paused, still holding one of the sheets. “For now?” he asked hopefully.

“I mean... if you want to come back later this evening... I have some things I need to do around the city, but after that's taken care of...”

“I'd like that.”

Zoisite was still smiling when he walked in the door of the home he shared with the other Shitennou. He had allowed the Master to finally talk him into breakfast, even though it was rather awkward for him to have the Master serve him anything.

Before leaving, he had taken a chance and kissed the Master one last time. He didn't argue, and even kissed Zoisite back rather passionately. The only thing that stopped them from going right back to the bedroom was the time dependent errands the Master needed to run. “Can I call you when I get back in?” he asked. Zoisite had ready accepted this.

Now that he was back at home however, he had two very curious sets of eyes looking at him. He had been thinking so much about seeing the Master later that night, that he had yet to come up with any excuses for where he was.

“OK, spill it,” Nephrite said first. “Where were you and who were you with?”

Zoisite looked at him with a slight tilt to his head. “And what makes you think I was with someone?”

Nephrite rolled his eyes. “You come home after being out all night and you are grinning like the cat that got the mouse. You got some last night and I want to know who.”

“Got some what?” Jadeite asked, looking at Nephrite confused.

“OK, now I know you are not that big of an idiot.”

“Hey! I'm just asking!”

Zoisite shook his head, but said nothing and continued down the hall, past his two house mates. He stopped when Kunzite stepped out and blocked the entrance to the piano room. He didn't say anything, but simply leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed. His presence telling Zoisite that he wasn't going to let him past without some answers.

“So,” Nephrite asked, taking a break from his bickering with Jadeite, “who is she?”

Kunzite chuckled at this, and Zoisite narrowed his eyes at their leader.

“What's so funny?”

“It's nothing,” Kunzite said, “just that if Zoisite did 'get some' as you so eloquently put it, then it most definitely not a 'she' he was with last night.”

That comment seemed to silence the room, save for a delayed 'oh' from Nephrite. Kunzite continued to block the door and raised an eyebrow. “So, why don't you fill us in on your little adventure?”

“I really don't see how my love life is any of your business.”

Kunzite stood up a bit straighter. “You have never been one to toss that word around lightly.”

With the intention of pushing Kunzite out of the way if he needed to, Zoisite made for the doorway. He was stopped by a hand on his chest. Kunzite leaned in a bit closer, but Zoisite was then able to push him out of the way easily. He caught Kunzite mumbling something about having 'his scent', and knew then that he wasn't going to be able to hide this from Kunzite as easily as the other two.

He sat down at the piano, but Kunzite closed the door to the room and walked over to the instrument. Zoisite made a mental note that the other two Tennou were likely listening at the door by this point. He hadn't lifted the key cover yet, and Kunzite placed his hand on it to prevent him from doing so.

“It was him wasn't it?”

“You might have to elaborate on that, Kunzite.”

“You were with the Master last night, weren't you?” Kunzite was gracious enough to at least keep his voice low, for this Zoisite was thankful.

“The Master is a 'him', so that is a possibility.”

Kunzite slammed his hand down on the varnished wood. “Damn it, Zoisite, will you give me a straight answer? I can smell him on you, don't think for a second I forget that scent.”

“If you are so certain, Kunzite, then why are you questioning me like this?”

“And why are you being so damned evasive?”

Zoisite sighed. “Perhaps, whoever I may or may not have been with last night asked that I not talk about what may or may not have happened.”

Kunzite backed off a bit at this, even lifting his hand off the piano. Zoisite lift the key cover then, and placed his fingers above the keys. He shot a look at the other man to see if he planned to interrupt him after he started to play.

“I'm surprised you had the balls to ask him,” Kunzite said, still quiet, but now with a growing smirk.

“You are assuming that you know who I was with.”

“I know who you were with, Zoisite.”

“Perhaps.”

He had managed to lose himself in his music for most of the day, playing pieces that he hadn't touched since the past life. Songs he himself had composed for the Master, only to store the pages away where no one would find them. Of course, those had been destroyed when the palace fell, but Zoisite still knew every note.

Every once in a while he could feel someone else in the room with him, watching him. He was fairly certain that each of his house mates had stopped by at least once. Kunzite certainly a few times, he knew far more than the other two did.

In the past life, while they didn't advertise what they did with the Master, Nephrite had certainly been aware of the activities. He had chosen to ignore it then, and Zoisite felt certain that if he knew now, he would do the same thing. Today however, Nephrite had little to no memories of the past life, so he didn't even have that as a clue.

Jadeite had been very young, only twelve years when Zoisite had started sharing the Master's bed, and Kunzite as well. Too young to understand what had been going on. If he knew now, Zoisite wasn't sure what his reaction would be. It was likely that he may just shrug his shoulders and ignore it as well.

His thoughts had drifted to the Princess more than once that day. It wasn't that he was being inconsiderate of her feelings, he knew that if she found out she would be heartbroken, just as he had been once before. That was why he would do everything in his power to make sure she never found out.

“Zoisite!”

His playing stopped and he turned around to see Jadeite holding the cordless phone. “It's the Master, he wants to talk to you.”

Zoisite did his best to look impassive when he took the phone, but once Jadeite was out of the room, he was smiling again. “Master?”

“Zoisite, would you be able to come over now?”

“Of course,” he paused for a moment. “There's only a small problem. They already suspect that I was with someone last night. If I leave right after you call...”

“Don't worry about it. I'm sure it won't take them long to figure out what is going on anyway. Perhaps it might be best to tell them straight out tomorrow.”

“If that's what you want, Master.”

“So you can come over now?”

“Instantly if I teleport.”

“Do I seem desperate if I ask you to?”

“No more so than I for suggesting it.”

“I'll see you soon then.”

Zoisite hung up the phone, intent on hanging it back up on the wall and then teleporting directly to the Master's apartment, but Kunzite stopped him.

The other man was standing in the doorway again, holding a second phone to his ear. Slowly he pulled it away and hung up as well, a full smirk plastered on his face.

Zoisite walked over to him, and roughly shoved his phone at the taller man. “I don't suppose I have to tell you where I'll be tonight.”

“Have a good time,” Kunzite whispered in his ear, accepting the devise.

Zoisite gave him a good glare before disappearing with a swish of his cape.
