03 Intermission

Mistress Anne
Intermission

Authors Note:
An intermission is usually defined as a break in the action for something light-hearted, funny or romantic.
Since everything else in this fiction fits that category, this intermission is the exact opposite [/i]

"Oh For Fuk Sake, Hurry Up Bich I'm loosin my Patience!!"
The lady behind the desk at the service station was blanched white as the robber waved the rifle in her face. This just did not happen in Australia. Occasionally knifes were waved in peoples faces but armed hold-ups of this nature were completely unheard of.
The gunman was wearing a brown and blue beanie that had been pulled down over his eyes and had holes cut into them so he could see. This left his mouth and nose exposed, including the extensive amount of black stubble on his chin.
He was also clearly worn out himself, and surprisingly was light enough a tan to most likely be white.
The shift manager did as instructed by emptying the coin depository and tills into the school bag the girl at the counter tried to remember as much about the man as possible. The four cameras pointing at him would catch most of it but the police, when they arrived, would want her description of him as well.

"What the Fuck is taking so long!" he demanded, looking back and forth between the shift runner and the girl.
The thief wasn't old by any means and from the worn look of the rifle he probably worked on a farm. One of the few ways left that you could get near a gun with Australia’s stringent gun laws. Short of smuggling the only way to get your hands on a weapon in Australia was to proof you needed it for work. For farmers that meant rifles, and only rifles. The only people who could get handguns were police or people transporting large amounts of cash.
"You know you're not going to get very far!" she told him nervously.
"Yes, Yes I know. You've already hit the button that calls the cops. Look for fuck sake just give me what you've put in already. Put it on the end of the gun!" He declared.
The cautious service station attendant complied, putting the backpack onto the end of the gun where it slid down to the rifles but. The bag contained easily a grand in total and was going to cost the store if it wasn't retrieved.

Backing out the door to the servo he sped around the corner of the building to the waiting Daihatsu. It wasn't terrific as get away vehicles went but it was acceptable. More importantly it was inconspicuous and by the time the police arrived at the service station the car was at the end of the block.
It looked at first as though he was going to get away with it but as promised the 25 camera's set up throughout the service station captured every detail of the burglar and his car. 60 ks away another police vehicle recognised his description and began giving pursuit.

Cursing and swearing they sped down the interstate highway, the criminal only staying ahead of the police by driving recklessly. There way no way his small car could outrun the police cars and with the addition of the police chopper he was forced to leave the highway. In the end between crossings back and forth across the barrier he hadn't actually managed to get that far away from his burg, only moving one suburb away.
Three cars got totalled as he first went through three sets of lights and then went the wrong way at a round about to try and escape. He was clearly getting desperate as the car was now starting to smoke and looked badly beat up.
In the end he was cornered.

"He's on foot, he's on foot!" The helicopter reported as the car pulled into a driveway.
Now a desperate fugitive, the man bolted across the lawn and over the fence with police in pursuit. Several cars tried to reposition themselves as he took the crow fly route across three blocks only to come out at the edge of a school ground.
"Weaorw" The police cars screamed as two came around the nearby corner and the thief swore.
"Just give it up!" A voice declared over the loudspeaker. One of the cars, a four-wheel drive, mounted the embankment and drove into the oval.
The thief bolted for the nearest building, through the door and past the rows of artwork hanging from the ceiling. Moving quickly he started pulling down blinks as the children scrambled from their seats.

"Nobody move from their chairs!" The man with the gun screamed at the class, then moved himself to the front and grabbed the teacher. The students complied, all except one who stood a moment longer.
"Akemi!" She yelled, only to sit again as the gun waved in her direction.
A few of the children caught on to what was happening and one near the back began silently crying.
Richard pulled the beanie off his head and stared at the class as a group. "It looks like lunch is cancelled kids!" he smiled at them. He had a warm smile, and a nice face. Everything that is except for the eyes that clearly said;
"I'm desperate now, so anything will go!"
