Part Two
Two Years Later
“Great, we have to watch a koala bear.” Schuldich stabs a boiled carrot and shoves it into his mouth.
“This man is to become prime minister?” I stare at Crawford in disbelief.
“Yes. Out of all the candidates, he is the best option.”
“Yeah, the best to die of a heart attack before he’s sworn in.”
“All that is required of Schwarz is to keep him alive until he is in office. After that, we move on.”
“Does he know anything of us?”
“No. He is not to be told of our Talents. If he finds out, he could use it to his own advantage and forget his purpose and his place.”
“Sounds fun.” Sarcasm drips from every word.
“There will be moments.” Both Schuldich and Farfarello perk up slightly at that. “You two should go out tonight. We start in a week and will be unable to leave as freely as in the past.”

With Schuldich gone, I take over the TV for a change. I don’t bother with the remote and instead use my Telekinesis to channel surf. I’ve taken to downloading and watching anime on my computer. I stop on the first one I find and watch for a few minutes. It looks like a typical fluff one. Some guy has two girl whipped but won’t pick one.
Crawford migrates to the armchair and reads his newspaper. I cross my legs on the couch and I’m just about to change the channel when it gets interesting. As if out of nowhere, one of the girls has a knife and starts stabbing the guy. I lean forward slightly, eyes glued to the screen. The girl leaves after he’s dead. The other girl comes and looks pretty damn shocked. The first girl gets a message from the guy’s cell phone to meet him on top of the school. The other girl shows up and there’s a gym bag on the bench.
...
“No way.” My eyes go wide.
His head is in the bag! And the second girl just killed the other one and cut her open...looking for proof of a baby. And then...the second girl holds the guy’s head while on a sail boat.
“And I thought what we do for a living was bad.”
“Life isn’t that simple for everyone.”
“If you make it complicated then it will be. I don’t think it can be anything but simple for assassins. We get told who to protect or killed and we do it.”
“Perhaps.” I look at Crawford now.
His expression is unreadable and I stare at it, trying to decipher it. But I stop after a few seconds. I simply shrug and start to channel surf again.
