Chapter 4: Slipping Into Darkness
Michael awoke to the smell of food and laughter. Slowly he opened his eyes and turned his head towards the source of the smell and noise. At a small table he spotted Alicia and Akasha, both dressed in bathrobes and already beginning on breakfast without him. With an audible grunt, he sat up and got out of bed. Wrapping the blanket about him like a toga, he approached the two girls.
“You’re finally awake, sleepy head.” Alicia scolded him in a mocking tone.
“What time is it?” Michael asked between yawns He slumped into a chair opposite the girls.
“Nearly ten o’clock!” Akasha replied, taking a bite of her toast. “You slept nearly all morning.”
“Sorry...”he apologized, reaching for some toast himself. “So, what were you two giggling about?” he asked, taking a bite.
Alicia and Akasha looked at each other and bust out laughing. “We were...” Alicia began, after about a minute of laughter. “...discussing the way you look when you sleep.”
“That must mean that I look funny when I’m asleep?” Michael asked, pouting pretending that his feelings were hurt.
“No, that’s not it.” Akasha replied, “You just look so cute when you’re asleep, that’s all.”
“Oh, ok.” Michael smiled. “So, when do you think that we should get moving?” he asked, in an attempt to change the subject.
“Well, the next town is about a day or two away from here.” Alicia replied, she tapped a control on her watch/pokedex remote, bringing up a 3 Dimensional view of the area projected above her wrist. “I’ve been experimenting with this thing a little. This red dot here,” she pointed at a pulsing red dot on the map. “represents our present location.” Tapping a few other controls, the area zoomed in, and a few more colored dots appeared on the map. “This blue dot is Michael’s uncle’s house, the yellow dots are the other towns in the area that we haven’t gone to yet, and this black one...it’s...”
“Randy’s grave” Michael said, seeing the pain in Alicia’s eyes, he continued where she left off. “If I understand it correctly, the watch automatically updates itself whenever we enter a new town or area, and it somehow reads out thoughts or emotions concerning these areas. So it registered my house, and Randy’s grave,” Alicia winced at the mention of her former Tamer’s name, and made a mental note to try and avoid mentioning him again. “from our thoughts, since we received the pokedex and watches here in Corsett.”
Looking at the map, Akasha asked, “So, where do we go now?”
It was nearly noon when the trio were packed and ready to leave town. They managed to find or replace any items that they lost the previous day, trying to keep the packs as light as possible. Pausing a moment at the entrance to Corsett, they waved goodbye to the small town. Turning around they left Corsett, heading north.
They decided on heading towards Navette, a large costal town which quickly became a large information/tourist center. Tamers from all around the Mountian League gathered here for conventions, festivals and mainly to just talk with other Tamers to find out first hand what’s going on in the world. The trio decided that this would be the best starting location for a Taming journey. They judged that it would take about two days to reach Navette, that is if they didn’t encounter any unsuspected detours.
It was almost dusk when they arrived at the Tamer Area on their route to Navette. Tamer Areas are areas in between towns where traveling Tamers can rest overnight, and protectedd by a perimeter fence which keeps Tamers from being attacked by feral pokegirls, plus it is a good place to meet other Tamers on journeys outside of towns and festivals.
There was only one other tent that Michael could see in the failing light in this spot. Thinking that it might be better to camp near another Tamer incase something does happen, he led his trio over to the other Tamer’s camp.
Outside of the tent a Megami was tending to a small fire. She was wearing a light pink dress with a red jacket that stopped at her waist, boots and thick metal bracelets. Her long brown hair was braided and tied with a pink ribbon. Almost as if she sensed the approach of them, she looked up from the fire, her green eyes seemed to glow as she took each of them in. Seeming to come to the decision that they were friendly, she smiled at them.
“Hello there,” she said, her voice soft and delicate. Turning towards the tent, she called out, “Cloud, we have guests.”
A rustling came from the tent, and a man emerged, followed by two girls. The man was fairly tall and was wearing baggy black pants, a sleeveless blue turtleneck, some sort of harness, with a pauldron (shoulder armor) over his left shoulder, connected to a large belt. He was wearing gloves and had a large wristband on his left arm. His blond hair stood up in many spikes, each pointing in an assortment of directions. His deep blue eyes seemed to glow from some internal light.
The two girls went over and sat down near the fire next to the Megami. One was un mistakably a Kunoichi, wearing a t-shirt that seemed a size too small for her, brown shorts, some sort of stocking on one leg and a type of protective device on her left arm. Her hair was tied back with a bandanna.
The other girl was a Amazonchan, her long brown hair was tied in a ponytail. She was wearing a T-shirt that was a few sizes too small, it seemed to just barely able to contain her large breasts, a short black skirt and boots. Her hands were covered with fighting gauntlets and she was wearing elbow pads.
“Hello.” the man, assumably Cloud, greeted them. He held out his hand, which Michael took in a gesture of friendship. “I’m Cloud Strife.” he said, releasing Michael’s hand. Guesturing to his pokegirls, he introduced them. “This is Aeris,” he introduced, gesturing to the Megami.
“Hello.” Aeris said, nodding to them.
To the Amazonchan, “Tifa.”
Tifa nodded also. “Hello there.”
“And this is Yuffie..” he gestured to the Kunoichi, who was busy playing with the fire.
“How’s it hanging’?” she replied, almost childlike. Michael wondered to himself if she was even the legal age to be Tamed?
Michael quickly introduced himself and his two pokegirls, once he got this out of the way, he asked, “Cloud, do you think it would be alright if we camp here with you guys tonight?”
Before Cloud could even think about it, Aeris replied for him. “Of course it would be alright with us. We’d love the company. It gets kinda lonely when it’ just the four of us all the time...”
“Aeris...” Cloud began, but was soon silenced by Tifa. “She’s right, it has been getting a little lonely with just the four of us all the time. It would be great to have someone else to talk to.” She walked over to Akasha, grabbing her hand, she began to lead her away. I’ll help you pitch your tent next to ours.” Cloud just shook his head, motioning to the fire, Alicia and Michael joined them.
Within half an hour, the camp was set up and both Tamers and their girls were talking and laughing around the campfire. Cloud and Tifa was telling them of their many adventures and how he met and caught each of his girls. Tifa was a childhood friend who he lost touch with for five years, when he finally found her again, she was the owner of a bar. Their friendship was rekindled. She offered him a job, which he accepted. Soon after that, she became his first pokegirl.
“...I fell through the roof of the church and when I awoke, there was Aeris looking over me, with Tifa laughing at me behind her.” Tifa and Aeris both giggled at this part of the story of how he first encountered the Megami. Ignoring them, Cloud continued with his tale. “She was more concerned with her flowers than I was. It wasn’t until she was sure that her flowers were unharmed that she was willing to talk to me. After I told her who I was, she asked if I would be her body guard. And here we are.”
“Booring!” yawned Yuffie, who was amusing herself by letting her marshmallows burn before she blew out the flames and ate them.
“As for Yuffie, well, she just sorta tagged along with me, thinking that I might be able to help her save her hometown, wherever it is.” Cloud remarked, seeing her being foolish, as usual. “Can you believe that she is barely legal to Tame, she acts like such a child!” To this, she stuck her tongue out at her Tamer.
“So, what’s your story?” Aeris asked, looking intensely at Michael, her eyes almost seemingly to search his very soul.
Blinking, he looked at Alicia and Akasha, unsure if he should tell them the truth. They both nodded, understanding his dilemma. “I didn’t want to be Tamer, but I guess that it was somehow my destiny. I managed to rescue Alicia from another Tamer who was going to kill her,” Alicia winced at the memory of that day. Was it only two days ago? “I passed the Tamer exam and she became my first pokegirl. Akasha I also rescued, but from a local gang in Corsett.”
After a minute of akward silence, Cloud and Michael asked simultaneously: “So, where are you headed?”
“Navette.” Akasha answered.
“Really, us too!” Tifa replied. “Since we’re going the same way, why don’t we tracel together?”
“Sure, that sounds great!” Alicia responded. Both Tamers just sat there staring at their pokegirls. Shaking their heads in unison.
“I guess that settles it.” Michael said, looking at his Alpha, a confused look on his face.
“Yeah, I guess so...” Cloud mumbled, as Tifa and Aeris hugged him from either side.
The rest of the evening went by swiftly, the new friends took turns telling interesting tales of their adventures. Michael soon learned a lot about the role of Tamers from Cloud and his pokegirls, which he was very grateful for, since he grew up in the country, not having encountered any Tamers before or knowing pretty much anything about pokegirls.
Yuffie suddenly got up, and whispered something in her Tamer’s ear. “Sorry about this,” he said, getting up from the fire, “but duty calls. Anyone else need some attention?” Tifa smiled as she got up and joined him, Aeris just smiled and shook her head. “Well then, I guess that this is good night. I’ll see you in the morning.” Turning, he led the two girls back into his tent. Within moments, the sounds of moans could be heard emanating from the small tent.
Michael looked at his two girls. Almost as if they knew the question he was going to ask, they both shook their heads. “I’m alright.” Akasha whispered. “I don’t have to be tamed too often.”
“Me neither.” Alicia said softly. “I’ll be fine for a while yet.”
Looking up, Michael was startled to find Aeris staring at him intently. He didn’t know how long she had been staring at him like that. After an awkward silence, Aeris finally spoke. “You’re not like most Tamers that I have met.”
“W-what?” Michael stammered.
“You seem different.” Aeris replied. “Not like you’re from another world like that Ranma Satome or Lina Inverse. But there’s something about you that sets you apart from the others.”
“What are you trying to say?” Akasha asked. “That Michael’s not normal or something?”
“Yes.” Aeris replied, her eyes never leaving Michael’s. “What it is, I can’t discern yet. But in time we’ll understand out true destines.” Her gaze traveled to Alicia’s eyes as she said the last.
Alicia turned her head, avoiding the other girl’s probing gaze. Michael noted a slight feeling that she was hiding something, but he wasn’t going to press the matter. He was about to ask Aeris more questions, but she had disappeared.
“That was weird.” Akasha stated the obvious. “I wonder what she meant about that whole destiny thing....” Seeing that her two friends were lost in their own thoughts, she started to play with the fire.
Michael was awakened suddenly by someone shaking his shoulders. “Michael! Michael! Wake up!” cried a female voice. It took him a minute to recognize the voice as Alicia’s. Sitting up, he shook his head to clear his mind from sleep.
“What’s the matter?” looking around he noticed that it was early morning, the mist still lay heavily on the ground. I must have fallen asleep outside, he thought. Looking at his alpha, his mind cleared quickly when he saw her concerned face. “Alicia, what’s wrong?”
“Akasha’s gone!” she replied, her voice quaking in fear.
“Gone? What do you mean she’s gone?”
“I can’t find her anywhere!” Looking around, Michael couldn’t find any trace of the Goth. Deciding that he would need some help to find her, he began to shake Cloud’s tent in an attempt to rouse the Tamer.
“Cloud! Wake Up!” he yelled through the fabric. Hearing moans from inside the tent, he stepped back to allow the Tamer to stick his head out of the narrow opening.
“W-what is it?” Cloud asked, yawning, his spikey blond hair looked messier than usual.
“Akasha’s disappeared!” Michael exclaimed. “Do you have any idea where she might have gone?”
“I saw her heading towards the woods at dawn.” came a soft voice from behind the Tamers. Turning around, Michael was startled to find Aeris standing directly behind him, causing him to jump back a step.
“The woods...are you sure?” Alicia asked.
“Yes, I’m sure. She seemed like she needed to do something.” Aeris replied. “But I don’t think you have to worry, she’ll...” Without waiting for her to finish her sentence, Michael ran off towards the woods, Alicia trying desperately to keep up with him. “...she’ll come back to you.” Smiling to herself, she turned and began tending to the fire. Shaking his head, Cloud pulled back into his tent and began rousing his girls. This is going to be an interesting day. He thought as he pulled on a shirt and tried to sort out his spikey hair.
It didn’t take them long to find Akasha’s trail leading into the woods, now that they knew what they were looking for. It took them a few minutes to find her in the woods, and when they spotted her, they stopped dead in their tracks, mouths agape in surprise.
For there in front of them, in the middle of a small clearing, Akasha sat upon a rock, completely naked, legs folded under her and her hands clasped in prayer. Behind her a towering waterfall roared as it plunged into a small pool, beside which they spotted her clothes. She didn’t notice the two approach her as her eyes were closed. Her breast rose and fell in time with her breathing. It seemed to Michael that she was in a deep state of meditation
I didn’t know that pokegirls meditated, he though to himself, especially when it comes to Goths. Just then, as if she was reading his mind, Akasha’s eyes opened up and she stared at Michael. “Not all Goths are the same,” she said in her usual whisper. “The same as not all humans are the same. Though we look alike, me and my sisters, inside we are completely different.” Leaping gracefully from her sitting position, she landed on Michael, pinning him to the ground, her pert breasts swaying inches from his face as she looked down at him, a smile crossing her lips. “You have awakened something deep inside of me. Something primal. I have never felt this in tune with nature before. I can hear the song of Pidgeys miles away, the soft spinning of a Widow weaving her deadly web, the sound of many pokegirls being ‘Tamed’ their moans like a deafening chorus to my ears! I can feel it too,” she lowered her gaze, now focusing on his neck, just above his collarbone. “The life of the planet flowing beneath our feet, through the very trees that surround us. It flows also through every living thing, the sweet smell of it filling my senses, causing my mind to become filled with images....”
Michael looked up into the girl’s crimson eyes, now beginning to fill with tears, she was obviously in some terrible pain. “Akasha..” he began, but stopped as he saw something else in her eyes, something that scared him to the core. Primal lust, not for sexual release, but for something more dark. Bloodlust. He was frozen with fear as he saw just how sharp Akasha’s teeth were as she smiled to him, like a Cheetit smiles to it’s prey.
Akasha lowered her head to her Tamer’s throat. The man underneath her winced as he felt the sharp pressure of her teeth against his skin. Just as she was about to pierce the skin and drink the warm blood that would flow from the wound, something clicked in her mind. “What am I doing?” she cried, as she leapt off her Tamer. Blinking the freely flowing tears from her eyes she looked at Michael, seeing the fear in his eyes.
“Please, forgive me...” she cried, as she ran out of the clearing, still naked. Her wails could be heard as she ran crashing though the woods.
Coming to her senses, Alicia ran over to Michael’s side, and helped him to sit up. Wrapping her arms around him, she held him close, soothing his nerves as he shook still with fear. “It’s ok.” she whispered into his ear over and over. “It’s alright, it’s over now.” Looking in the direction where the Goth fled, she allowed a tear to run down her cheek unchecked. What happened to her? She thought, still comforting her Tamer. Akasha, please be alright.
When they got back to camp they found Cloud, Aeris and Tifa packing up camp. Yuffie was, as usual not helping the others, but laughing her head off as they struggled to stuff their tent into it’s pack.
Michael and Alicia were surprised to find their own tent and packs were carefully re-packed and sitting in a small pile. Almost as if reading their confused thoughts, Aeris said to them, “We packed up your stuff while you were out looking for Akasha, we thought it would save time...” Turning around from the tent, having finally managed to stuff it into it’s small bag, she was surprised to find only the two of them standing there.
“Where is Akasha? Did you find her?” she asked.
“Yeah, we found her.” Michael replied, his voice no more than a whisper.
“So, where is she?” Tifa asked, coming up beside Aeris.
“She ran off.” Alicia replied, still supporting her Tamer.
“Ran off? Why would she do that?” Cloud asked, as he joined the others.
“I don’t know....she kinda flipped out.” Michael told them what happened by the pool. The other’s eyes widened as they heard how Akasha attacked Michael, then ran off. “I don’t know where she went, or why she left.”
“She needs help...” Aeris whispered.
“No duh, even I could of told you that!” Yuffie said, an amused tone in her voice. She was about to say something else, but was silenced by a glare from Cloud.
“Michael, can I talk with you and Alicia for a moment?”Aeris asked, softly. Nodding, they followed the Megami off to one side of the camp. Cloud shook his head, turning around he continued to pack up their supplies.
“What did you want to talk to us about?” Alicia asked, as they got out of earshot of the others. Aeris turned and looked Michael in the eyes. It felt like she was searching the depths of his soul for something.
“Do you remember what I told you last night by the fire?” she asked.
“Yes. You said that I was different than anyone else you’ve met.” he replied.
“You also said something about understanding out true destinies.” Alicia added, not sure where this was going.
“Both of these things I told you, but there’s more to tell.” Walking to a nearby rock, she gracefully sat down upon it. Motioning them to join her, Michael and Alicia sat on a fallen log opposite her. “Akasha needs you right now. She’s going through something, something to do with her past, her future. What it truly is, I don’t know. But she desperately needs your support right now, I’m not sure if she can get through it alone.”
“What do you mean?” Michael asked, shocked. “Is she going to die?”
Aeris smiled. “She might, unless you can help her. Even then...I don’t know.”
“What don’t you know?” Michael grabbed the Megami by her slender shoulders. “Tell me! What’s going to happen to her?”
“Michael! Stop it! Can’t you see that you’re hurting her!” Alicia yelled at her Tamer. Seeing tears of pain running down Aeris’ face, Michel let go of her. Alicia went over beside her friend, placing her arms around the poor girl. Aeris buried her head in the other girl’s shoulders, sobbing.
“I’m sorry...” Michael tried to apologize, placing his hand tenderly on the Megami’s shoulder, she flinched away from his touch. Getting up, he left the two girls alone. Grabbing his pack, he slung it over his shoulder and left the camp. I don’t deserve to be a Tamer, he thought to himself as he quickened his pace. He entered the woods to try an find Akasha.

“That must mean that I look funny when I’m asleep?” Michael asked, pouting pretending that his feelings were hurt.

“Randy’s grave” Michael said, seeing the pain in Alicia’s eyes, he continued where she left off. “If I understand it correctly, the watch automatically updates itself whenever we enter a new town or area, and it somehow reads out thoughts or emotions concerning these areas.
