Into The Night
Sorry this is so short. It just didn\'t want to be longer.

Shi shook her head and stared at Tenpou as though he’d lost every last functioning brain cell in his head. She sighed and stood up.
Tenpou’s heart dropped to somewhere around his stomach. Too late, everything in him screamed. He’d waited far too long and now it was too late to salvage anything. A hundred years was a ridiculously long time to expect anyone to wait for anything much less for another person to come to their senses about a relationship. This was his own fault, a fiasco of his own making. He really couldn’t blame Shi for giving up on him but it still felt like someone had stabbed him in the heart.
He felt her move closer to him and glanced up, half expecting her to hit him again. Not that it would matter at that point; maybe physical pain would distract him from the emotional pain. What he hadn’t expected was for her to be holding her hand out to him.
“What . . .”
“Come on. Part of your punishment is to dance with me. Since you embarrassed the living shit out of me in front of the whole town.”
“Shi, I . . .”
“Just don’t talk, Tenpou. You have a hundred years of idiocy to make up for. I’ll think about giving you another chance. Eventually. Maybe,” she said, hauling him up by the arm and proceeding to drag him along the beach with her.
It was the answer he’d wanted. Not in so many words, Shi was far better at actions than words just as he was. If there was really no chance she would have just left him there without another word. He fully believed she would make him pay for his stupidity. But for some reason, found he really didn’t mind the thought of it.
Like a gift from the heavens, it was easy to tell,
It was love from above, that could save me from hell.
She had fire in her soul it was easy to see,
How the devil himself could be pulled out of me
Tenpou smiled to himself. This wasn’t exactly what he’d had in mind when he thought of walking on the beach with Shi but it was better than her leaving him there alone. He’d start seriously working on making things right with her tomorrow. Tonight wasn’t the time for any more serious talk or worrying about how to proceed from that point on. Tonight was about magick, the kind that could only be found with the person you wanted to be with, real magick. He understood the gift she’d given him, knew it was very fragile and easily shattered. But he also knew it was his to care for now, his to ensure it was safe, to nurture and make grow. She’d given him something precious beyond material wealth, herself. And it was all he really wanted.
As they neared the edge of town Tenpou sighed a little and turned to look at Shi.
“You know I can’t dance,” he said, one corner of his mouth lifting ruefully.
“I know,” she said. “Which is exactly why you’re going to. I’ll lead.”
“Of course,” he said, noting that the crowd parted as they neared the center of town to let them through.
There were drums in the air
As she started to dance
Every soul in the room
Keeping time with their hands
The music was in full swing as Shi dragged him out onto the makeshift dance floor and the sudden roar of applause was almost deafening. Shi nodded to everyone a little and put her arms around Tenpou’s neck.
“This one is an easy dance,” she said. “Just put your arms around my waist and feel the music.”
Tenpou wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, marveling at his good fortune. Shi was humming against his chest, singing little bits of the song playing.
Like a piece to the puzzle that falls into place,
You could tell how we felt from the look on our faces,
Spinning in circles with the moon in our eyes,
No room left to move in between you and I,
We forgot where we were and we lost track of time,
And we sang to the wind as we danced through the night
Tenpou held her tighter and buried his face in her hair. “Please, forgive me,” he murmured.
She pulled back a little to look at him. “I will. Just give me a little time to adjust to this.”
He reached up and brushed away a curl that had fallen out of her upswept hair. Green eyes searched her blue grey ones, finding hope and wariness reflected there.
“This probably isn’t a good time to say it but . . . I love you, Shi.”
She surprised him by smiling softly up at him. “I already know that, silly man. You wouldn’t have come for me if you didn’t,” she said, stretching up to kiss him.
