The Calm
CHapter 45: Self Destructive Pattern

* Feel the tension of rejection
Bleach it out with therapy
The confusion exclusion
Turns into my deformity*

She was in shock. Pregnant? How was that possible? Hadn’t they taken the best precautions? She was too young to be a mother! She couldn’t provide for this young child within her womb! She looked over to equally shocked partner in crime, Vicious. He seemed to be frozen in time, unable to speak or even breathe. ‘Welcome to the club,’ she murmured mentally.

“Marissa… how? I mean… haven’t you and Spike… but… huh?” he babbled.

She shrugged. “Just lucky I guess,” she answered with the most calm on her face. The great actress she was.

* Never trust it, maladjusted
I've become my own worst enemy
The aggravation in my fixation
Keeps it all controlled inside of me*

~*~*~*~

* See it all collapsing, it's all around me
This condition is killing me
The isolation still surrounds me
In remission but it's killing me*

She wandered slowly down the white halls of the mental hospital, her blue sundress showing that she was five months along in her pregnancy. The nurses were very kind to her, letting her see him, thinking she was his young wife.

She stopped before a room with his name on a removable plaque and faded numbers above the door. The orderly was finally beside her, having fallen behind with her strangely quick and natural pace. He smiled apologetically to her like he always did as he opened the door and let her in.

He was in the same spot that he had been in two days ago. She took her seat in a chair beside his bed as he stared at the ceiling, only occasionally blinking. Gently, she wiped some silver hair from his brow and smiled as she sat with him in silence. Her grey eyes belayed all the sorrow and weariness in her heart, herck hck hair pulled into a low ponytail as she weaved her fingers with his. “Vicious,” she called softly.

Three months, he had been like this for three months. Mao had warned her that his first kill might do this to him. Now she knew that the pug faced father-figure of hers was right. The first taste of blood on his hands had driven him here, into a state of catat tha that she feared he would never escape. Silently, she wiped tears from her eyes and sniffled as she squeezed his hand.

“Vicious please. I need you here… we both do. I went to the doctor yesterday, that’s why I wasn’t here. Vicious… it’s a boy. You’re going to have a son.”

Nothing, not even a twitch.

“Vicious… please don’t do this to me! I can’t do this alone! I don’t even know what to name him yet, or what I’m going to do after he’s born! Please, Vicious, I need you to ere ere and be the voice of reason again!” she begged as she let her head fall into his shoulder and wept.

“Lucius,” his voice was soft, barely heard by her.

Marissa raised her head to see groggy, focused pale blue eyes on hers. She choked a laugh and smiled as tears still ran down her face. “Vicious…”

He smiled and held her face with a pale hand, his bones feeling heavy from months of disuse. He then nodded slightly and pressed a kiss to her lips. “We’ll name him Lucius.”

* It's what I can't control
What I can't control
What I can't control in me*

~*~*~*~

* Born again I feel so hollow
Torn again my senses fade
Mourn again without the sorrow
Born again without the blame*

She felt her heart break. She could hear it shatter into pieces as Vicious handed their son to his mother, the only person that they could trust. She looked away, unable to bear it any longer, she couldn’t listen to Vicious tell his mother why they needed her to care for their tiny son. She clutched her heart as she stepped out into the street and took out her pack of cigarettes. As soon as they had decided to give Lucius to Vicious’ mother, she had started smoking.

She wanted to scream, the memory of her long labor and her first look at her son’s pale grey eyes, his shock of silver hair, flashing in her mind. Her son would never know her, or his father. This is what they thought was best, that the boy be kept far from the world of the syndicate. That he keep his small hands free from blood.

“Marissa…” Vicious called as she snapped from her dark thoughts.

“That’s not my name anymore, stop calling me that.”

“That’s right. Right before we left, you changed your name… Eve, wasn’t it?”

She nodded. “I figured that it fit this life better than my old one.”

“Eve, the Crimson Dragon. It works,” he said as he wrapped his arms about her shoulders.

“Vicious… we’re doing the right thing… right?” she asked.

Vicious nodded. “It’s best for him. That’s what we have to consider, what’s right for him.”

She shook her head slowly in the affirmative. The thoughts of what her life would have been like if her parents had done that streaming through her mind. “Yes, what’s best for him.”

* Force a new solution, it's all inside me
In remission but it's killing me
Evolution is divided
In remission but it's killing me*

* I can't increase the treatment
It won't suppress the feelings
Or stop the way I'm getting
Used to the pain*

A sixteen year old Lucius stared at the front picture of the newspaper, his pale grey eyes fixed on the strangely familiar face in the picture. Her dark hair hung on her shoulders as she stood in business attire, a smoking gun in hand and the body of a would-be assassin a blur in the background. He could swear he knew her, those eyes, so similar to his, with that scar over her left eye, so entrancing. The soft, almost real-looking, smile on her lips, everything about her seemed familiar, like a forgotten dream.

*”And here I am talking with the heir to Dragon corp. Ms. Rain Deacon!”* The voice of a talk show host diverted his attention immediately.

She was sitting there, her eyes sparkling with an intelligent and secretive light. He was captivated. It was then that she spoke with a voice even more familiar than her face. *”Thank you, Kendall. I’m very pleased to be here,”* she said with that soft and feminine tone that haunted his most pleasant dreams.

Lucius touched her face with a finger, the words gone, only the sound of her voice penetrating his ears. He needed to know what it was about her that held him so. What was so familiar about her? Why was she so familiar? Why was it that the mere sound of her voice made him feel calm and safe when his mother’s did not? Sure, his mother made him feel safe, but not the way she did. Not the way Rain did.

He felt an attraction towards her that wasn’t sexual, something strange and unusual for a teenage boy his age. He just wanted to be in her presence, understand why he felt the way he did about her. It was then that he saw the red head in her shadow, the dark penetrating gaze of her bodyguard in the background. He felt a chill at that moment, a chill suddenly soothed by Rain talking again. He turned abruptly, breaking his eyes from that dark look in the red head’s eyes. That was going to haunt him for a long time. But, of course, so was the soothingly familiar sound of Rain’s voice.

He had to find out why!

* Breaking down
Self-destructive pattern*

Levii: Whoo! Fun stuff! Just a further look into the past of these poor pawns in my sick game of 'Let's Screw Thier Lives Over'. This is also leading to the fact that Lucius(Kage) does know where Julia is. Julia will be dying soon! Don't you guys fret! I have another chapter in the wings that's centered around Vicious, Amaya, Lucius, and Sith. I do intend on giving Spike and Faye some screen time, also Jet and James before the big showdown comes. School and my dayjob have been cutting into my writing time, so it may take a bit. But be patient, my beloved REVIEWers, and they will come! Ooh! Don't forget to send a REVIEW! There's no excuse now that the feedback thingy is working! REVIEW!
