Chapter 11 The Final Exam

“Will all students find their seats? The test is about to begin,” says the teacher assistant.



“Where are those six missing girls?” shouts Ayaka. “And I haven’t seen Haruna and Nodoka either.”



“Will they get zero points if they don’t take the exam?” says Fuuka.



“Yes they will,” says Ayaka. “All right guys, you’ll all have to get some extra points or else we will lose Negi-sensei as our teacher.”



“Hey look!” says Sakurako who is sitting by the window. “They are coming.”



The eight girls are running inside the school building, Yue still carried by Kaede.



Nodoka and Haruna was on their way to Library Island to make a last search for their missing friends when they met up with them not far from the dorm and they were quite surprised when the rangers suddenly showed up, stark naked (but quite clean). They had been very worried since they lost contact with them, but now they were all happy and hugged and embraced each other. Nodoka and Haruna waited while the others got dressed and then they all ran to the school.



“Sorry we’re late,” says Asuna to the teacher assistant. “But Yue hurt her leg.”



“Latecomers have to take the test in another room. Please come with me,” he says.



“Please do your best on the exam girls,” says Negi. “It’s my fault that you lost the magic book and I wish there was some way I could help you. But it’s all up to you now, good luck everybody.”



“Leave it to us Negi-sensei,” says Makie.



“We’ll make it without the book,” says Yue.



“Thanks for studying with us all this time Negi-sensei,” says Kaede and the girls walk into the classroom.

Negi goes outside; he’s nervous and restless. He looks at his arm and sees that the last mark is gone. “Oh yeah, I can use magic again, but there’s no help in that now. No wait; there is one spell I can use.” He goes to the open window and stands underneath it and pronounces the magic words. It’s a spell to make everyone’s heads to be clear and refreshed and it takes away worries and distracting thoughts.

A few days later the results will be announced and all the students are gathered at the assembly hall. Everyone is quite nervous when it all starts. First and second place are being announced, but 2A is not among them.



“Well, we couldn’t have expected that, could we?” says Asuna.



The announcer continues down the list, there are many classes in this academy, but when there are only three left, class 2A is getting really worried.



“Did we really do that bad?” says Makie.



“I should have known,” says Ayaka. “The Baka Rangers were not able to get anything.”



“The third to last is 2P,” says the announcer. “And the second to last, the booby prize, is 2K.”



“We’re…last?” The girls are standing like paralysed.



But Negi is running out of the building. “I have failed,” he thinks. “I’ll better leave as soon as possible. No use in waiting and saying goodbye, it will only cause more problems. I’m sorry everybody.” He walks to his room and packs his things and heads for the way out of Mahora Academy. But at the train station he hears a familiar voice behind him.



“Wait Negi,” Asuna is shouting and he stops. “I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, it’s my fault that we came last and you lost your licence, I’m such a dumb-ass.”



“Don’t say that. You will make it through middle school and then high school, I know because I have seen you study and doing your best. And give my regards to the others, we have had a fun time together, but I have to go now, my train…”



“Don’t go!” Asuna throws herself around his neck and goes down on her knees. “You can’t leave me like this, what shall I do without you, I need you, I…” She holds hard around him and presses her face towards his chest.



“Asuna, don’t cry.” Negi strokes her hair.



“Negi-sensei,” someone is shouting.



“Asuna-san, what are you doing with Negi-sensei?” Ayaka says.



“Are you leaving Negi-kun?” says Makie.



Negi looks up and he can see that most of his class have arrived. Asuna lets go of him and dries her tears.



“It’s not easy to get rid of you girls,” he says. “Okay, maybe it was wrong of me to leave without saying goodbye, but you know it’s inevitable, we failed the test and…”



“You can’t leave without a goodbye party,” says Ku Fei. “Let’s throw a big party right now.”



“Negi-sensei cannot leave,” says Makie. “There must be something we can do.”



“Let’s talk to grandpa, I mean the principal,” says Konoka. “He can do something.”

Negi knows he is not able to get away from them and he reluctantly goes with the girls back towards the academy.  



“Ah, there you are Negi-kun. I’ve been looking for you.” The principal is standing on top of the stairs outside the main building. “And Asuna-san and my granddaughter too. Will you come with me to my office?” He points out the five Baka Rangers and the three Library Explorers.



“I owe you an apologize,” he says. “I made a mistake and I hope it didn’t cause too much trouble for you. I was the one who marked the latecomers and I completely forgot to add up the results with the rest of the class. I will give each one of you your result now. Line up please.”



Negi notices that he seems nervous and talks faster than he usually does, but he doesn’t say anything. “My fate will probably be announced last,” he thinks.



“Okay, Nakie, I mean Makie,” says the principal. “You got 66 points, well done. Next is the acrobatic Ku Fei with the powerful kick, you got 67. Kaede, you have big…potential, 63 points. Haruna 81, Nodoka 95, I see no problems here. Yue, I never thought I should see you…getting 63 points. Try a little harder next time; I know you can do it. My beautiful granddaughter, 85 points and finally Asuna, you have matured…in studying, 71 points. Which means…” he looks at the excited faces, “…that 2A is the top class of the year.”



“YES!” the girls shout. “We made it, we are not the worst class anymore.”



“You did well,” says the principal to Negi. “You are qualified to teach here at Mahora Academy and I hope you’ll keep up your good work.”



“Thank you principal, I will do my best,” says Negi.



“What happened to your forehead grandpa?” says Konoka when they are on their way out. “You have a wound.”



“I was hit by a book. Now get on your way and tell the rest of the class. Don’t let them wait to hear the good news.”



“Hit by a book?” thinks Konoka. “How come…?” But she doesn’t get to speculate about it. Everybody are talking and shouting and jumping of joy while they run to find the others.



And of course they all get very happy and decide to celebrate with a big party. Everybody is there, including Negi, and they are eating and drinking and singing and dancing and playing to celebrate their victory.

“Thank you for studying with me, for trying so hard,” says Asuna. “I can almost not believe I did so well at the exam. I’m not the last anymore; actually I’m the best…among the baka rangers.”

“Yes you are but don’t get cocky about it. Next time they will try harder and…”

“I know but it’s the first time I’m not the stupidest in class, can’t I enjoy this a little…?”

“Of course. And you should enjoy the vacation and come back fresh and inspired for the next term.”

“I will. But how come I do so well when you are teaching? Not even Takahata-sensei…Where is he anyway? I haven’t even thought of him since…before we went to Library Island.”

“I saw him not long ago, he is somewhere around here. I can get him for you, I’m sure he will also congratulate you with your good result.”

“No don’t, I can see him later. I just wondered if there are something special you are doing that makes me…”

“Maybe it’s because I see you naked a lot?”

“What? Is that some kind of magic…?”

“No, sorry. I was trying to make a joke but that is not something to joke about. Sorry again, I’m not good at this.”

“No no, it’s no problem,” Asuna says and she walks away while Negi is approached by some other students. Not surprisingly he’s a very popular man right now and everybody wants a piece of him.

Asuna is still thinking of what he said. “Could it really be…? It’s true he sees me naked a lot but…that could mean that if I’m more naked I could get even better grades. I could be naked in my room whenever he’s there and…if I attend class nude I may be number one in class, or the whole school. No, that is too far-fetched and I couldn’t do such a thing anyway.”

The party goes on until late evening and would probably have lasted the whole night if not the principal had ended it and said it was time for everybody to go to bed.

“I should have kicked you real hard for the way you embarrassed me at the train station today,” says Asuna when they are back in their in their room. “Making me cry like a baby in front of everybody.”



“I’m sorry.”



“Don’t be,” she says and embraces him. “I’m just so happy that you will not leave and I will try to be a better girl from now on and don’t make so much trouble for you. And I have found out that I have to share you more so tonight you will sleep in Konoka’s bed.”



“What? But will Konoka…?”



“Do you want to sleep with Negi-sensei?” shouts Asuna to Konoka who is in the bathroom.



“Of course,” they hear her say. “He’s so cute.” The door opens and Konoka is coming out, buck naked.

Asuna looks at her and gasps. “Are you going to…?”

“…sleep naked with Negi-sensei?” Konoka giggles. “No, I will put my pyjama on; I just forgot to bring it with me to the bathroom.” She finds her pyjama in the closet and puts it on before lying down in her bed.



And Negi lies down and falls asleep in the warm embrace of Konoka who smells almost as good as Asuna.
