There he was again, standing before her. She was on her knees, like a scared child, and hanging on his every word. He was smiling that hideous smile, as if he knew something vital and was pleased not to say a word.
\"Why do you continue to come to me? What do you want with me?\" She pleaded, unable to stand or move. Her body was frozen in this horrible position of subservience.
And now that laughter, that familiar terrible laughter filled the empty air around them. They were in an open and desolate place. The ground was black rock and it hurt her knees through the clothing she wore. The sky was fiery and the clouds glowed with lightning as the rain threatened with thunderous clamor.
\"My sweet child, Integra,\" he finally spoke. His eyes seemed kind as he smiled down at her and his rough hands touched her cheek as if she had just said something only a child would think to say and it called for simple adoration. \"You don\'t see, with those eyes. Open them. Can\'t...\"
\"No!\" Integra screamed, her voice forceful and echoing through the dark plains. She interrupted him and he only responded to the insult with a smile. She shook her head so that his caress would cease. \"Who are you?\" More screams, her voice threatened to shake her very soul from her body.
\"Oh my sweet Integra, my child. I am you, you are me. Flesh of my flesh and blood of my blood, as the old saying goes. We are one. I am your devil and you are your devil. You see now, don\'t you? It is you, you who dances with the demon in the flames of eternal damnation. It is you who I will see in Hell, my child. Together we will walk, together we will greet the Devil in his playground. I am sorry, sorry my sweet one. My sweet child, Mina...\"
That name... She woke up with a start, her heart was racing in her chest.
\"Mina, Mina,\" she whispered. Could it be? Wilhemina Murray? Why was she dreaming of Alucard\'s lost love. Ah yes, she knew of this girl well, knew the stories. And, just then, it dawned on her. She gasped and her hand flew to her mouth, her eyes went wide with realization. If this man spoke of Mina then that could mean only one thing...
Integra ran from her bedchamber, her gown thin and tracing every inch of the naked form underneath. She was at her study within seconds. Her hands searched the doors to try and open them, but she felt clumsy as she swung one out and ran into the room. Her eyes searched frantically for that book, that precious book... her family tree. There it was, bound in gold embroidery and black leather. It was the most ornate and oldest of all the books upon the shelves. She felt as if she flew to it and her hands gripped it before she could process in her mind what she was doing. She laid it on her mahogany desk and her hands searched the pages.
There...
There he was!
The patriarch of their family...

Why, even his clothing was precisely what it was in her dream. There were the kind eyes, the compassionate smile. It was as if he seemed to know. Yes of course, this is what he meant by their blood being the same. It all became clear. But why, why did he say those things? Why did he say they were damned and that he\'d given the devil his name? It made no sense.
\"Mina,\" she whispered again.
\"What was that...\"
It was Alucard, he\'d come into the room. Her eyes rose to meet him and they were as wide as they had been when she\'d realized who was speaking to her in her dream.
\"What was that name you just said,\" he hissed, coming closer to her.
\"It would seem that your past has come to haunt me.\"
