Evangelion Ressurection: Hell on Earth

Ritsuko Akagi stared at the image on the screen in front of her, a mug of coffee held firmly in one hand as she stared at the green screen of the picture Kensuke had handed her. A reference grid superimposed itself on the screen and Kensuke spoke up before Ritsuko could, \"Enhance grid number C-8.\"

Maya instantly keyed up the picture\'s grid and a subwindow appeared on the large screen, in the corner of the zoomed image appeared 10x. Ritsuko looked at the tube that protruded from the water and sighed, \"I think you might be right Kensuke. That looks like it could be a periscope, Maya cross-reference that shape with all known submarine classes, both pre and post Second Impact.\"

The picture shrunk to half the size of the screen and a series of pictures flitted past until a flashing image showed itself on the other half of the screen. Ritsuko looked at the pictures, visually comparing them before she nodded, \"Yeah that\'s the one. It looks like it\'s a post Impact Shinjuku class heavy salvage submarine. Maya, I want you to get this information to Misato personally. Kensuke, you report to the cage and Shinji I want you to come with me. You too Toji.\"

The quintet of people broke up and went on their ways. Ritsuko, Toji, and Shinji all headed off through a doorway which lead down the corridor to an elevator, \"Shinji, I\'m going to take you to Unit 01. It\'s not kept in the cage because it\'s a useless when it can\'t activate. I want you to take a look at this folder, there have been numerous small changes and upgrades made to Unit 01, and I want you familiar with them before we get there and see if it\'ll even activate for you.\"

Shinji nodded as he flipped through the folder Ritsuko had given him. Visually Unit 01 remained almost unchanged, except for a new weapon system that had been installed on the unit. Shinji flipped to the page that corresponded to the number marked next to the weapon. He read the name and spoke it out loud, \"The progressive katana..?\"

\"Oh I forgot about the weapon systems we integrated into Unit 01. It\'s been so long since it was done, think the progressive knife only longer Shinji.\"

\"Right, that\'s what I thought. It was more a question of, why was the knife taken out and made bigger?\"

\"There is still a progressive knife in the shoulder armor, that wasn\'t removed. However we wanted to add something that might give the Eva a little more reach should a new angel defense show up. You never know when an angel surrounded by fire or something like that might show up.\"

\"Got it.\" Shinji flipped to the next page and looked at the next weapon. It was a pistol sized for the Eva, but the bore of the weapon matched the size of modern day tank cannons. He flipped to the next page expecting to find another new weapon but what he saw caused him to drop the folder and look at his hands almost expecting to see blood dripping from them, \"The Unit 01 berserk advantage?\"

Ritsuko almost jumped when Shinji took a step back and stared at his hands, while the folder dropped to the ground and then understood. She looked at Shinji and put a hand on his shoulder staring directly into his eyes as she nodded, \"Yes Shinji.. Evangelion Unit 01 is unique in that it ran without power, not just on one occasion. We found out that your Eva has the ability to temporarily... shall we say \'evolve\' into a stronger fighting mindset. It saved your life on three occasions, once with Sachiel the third Angel, once with Leliel when you were swallowed by the Dirac Sea, and the third time against Zeruel when it ate the S2 organ. This allows you to control when it enters it instead of the Eva doing it on its own.\"

Shinji didn\'t looked too assured by the words that Ritsuko said, and the way his hands visibly shook showed that. However it was Toji that understood what Shinji was going through, and spoke up from his silence, \"Listen Shinji, it\'s not the dummy plug that ripped my Eva apart. On more than one occasion the Berserk Eva could have attacked the other Evas but didn\'t, I reviewed the tapes myself. You don\'t have to worry about a repeat, I promise you that. Ritsuko managed to include a three stage process to keep that from happening.\"

\"That\'s right Shinji. When the program reaches stage three which is too far, it will instantly self-kill causing the running connection even, the S2 organ, to die. We can also induce stage three from the command center which will cause the Eva to shut down. If things go so far as to the point Eva 01 activates even without the killed S2 organ, we\'ll sever the entry plug from the Eva. Unit 01\'s plug slot has been changed to be able to seperate the plug from the Eva in a manual ejection. We pull a lever in the command center and an additional set of rocket boosters on the plug automatically initiate and the walls of the plug slot with expand, letting the plug exit smoothly.\"

\"Just because I have your assurance Doctor Akagi doesn\'t mean that it won\'t go too far without starting up the fourth step, whatever that is. If I remember correctly it was you that said Misato\'s plan against Sahaquiel only had a one in ten thousand chance of working, yet it did. It was you that said that Unit 01 had a .0000000001 percent chance of activating with me, but it did. Don\'t take it personally if I don\'t take your word on the matter.\" Shinji had replied a bit more hot-headed than he\'d wanted, but he had to get his point across to Akagi, even if it was sharply worded.

Ritsuko didn\'t bat an eyelash at Shinji\'s outburst, instead she let it go on then nodded. She didn\'t go off on him, as a matter of fact she managed to crack a smile at the words, \"I guess Misato was right, you have changed and you haven\'t in some things.\" The elevator stopped with a bounce at the level that had once been known as Terminal Dogma where Lilith had been located long ago. \"There\'s a plug suit waiting for you in the prep room over there, so go ahead and get ready.\"

Shinji seriously debated on turning down the order, \"What happened to Lilith?\"

\"She was destroyed along with the fake Evas, it was too dangerous to be left here. Now get ready.\"

Shinji once again thought about turning down getting into the plug suit until a flashing red light and a siren began to wail. This cut off his train of thought as he looked around, \"What the hell?!\"

\"This is a level priority battle alert, a new breed Angel has appeared out of the ocean! Repeat a new breed Angel has appeared out of the ocean!\"

Misato was standing impassively in the command center a cup of coffee in her hands, reading over the information that Maya had given her personally. A Shinjuku heavy salvage submarine had dropped the Jet Alone into the harbor underneath, had inflated and been recovered by the Murasame. She finally frowned as she looked to Hyuga and gave an order, \"I need those satellite images on the Murasame in the last twenty four hours. Go through each hourly photo and tell me if you noticed any change.\"

Her mind was already frantically at work, so the Jet Alone was situated off shore in that aircraft carrier designed for it. A finger was tapping on her lips before she spoke to Maya, \"Alright Maya, I want all the Evas prepared for launch at a moments notice, let the pilots know that they might just be launched to destory the Jet Alone if something goes wrong with whatever their planning.\"

What Misato didn\'t tell anyone, was the fact that she was afraid that the japanese government knew about SOUL, and was planning on using the Jet Alone to destroy Central Dogma. She stopped behind Hyuga and stared at the photos he was going through then came the last one from an hour prior and dropped her cup onto the desk before making a quick comment, \"Go back.. would you look at that, an hour ago Jet Alone was dropped off the aircraft carrier.\"

Hyuga squinted at the picture, even going so far as to hitch his glasses further up his nose in hopes of seeing something that he just didn\'t, \"Huh? I just don\'t see it Misato how do you know it was dropped off an hour ago?\"

Misato pointed at the deck of the ship pictured on the screen, \"The planes have been moved around to provide ample space to something quite large to come on deck. Maya, take your seat and give me a full passive sonar sweep for the area surrounding that ship. If the Jet Alone was allowed to dive, which would be the best bet as to the location, it would be making a lot of noise underwater.\"

\"Yes ma\'am.\"

Maya\'s computer keys clicked away rapidly as she tied into a Japanese sonar bouy some mile off the shore, and nearly half a mile away from the ship and she sighed. Doing this by passive sonar only would be like looking for a needle in a haystack because the robot would probably be far away from there. That was until she put on the headphones, and was treated to a violent sound of water being thrashed about and metal cracking with the occasional shrill sound associated with metal breaking. Instantly she set about determining the direction and calling Misato over, \"Ma\'am I think you better have a listen to this.\"

\"Switch it to the external mics Maya.\"

\"Yes Ma\'am, I\'ve just determined the location.\"

\"Then feed the information to Hyuga, and we\'ll adjust the satellite to take a look at the area since it probably isn\'t far from Murasame.\"

\"I got the information, bringing it up on screen.\"

It was at this time that the last of the three SOUL operators began looking at his screen away from his air guitar strumming that he\'d been so absorbed in. The information he regarded for a moment before his eyes widened, \"Holy shit! I\'m reading a pattern blue in the water on the shores of Tokyo 3!\"

Misato looked at Aoba in shock her eyes widening as she understood why the Jet Alone had launched if that was the case, it wasn\'t to attack SOUL it was to stop the new breed Angel. The satellite images appeared on screen, there was the angel appearing as a humanoid shape. It was rather remaniscient of Sachiel in the slenderness of its limbs, but the way it fought was completely different, \"Aoba, make the announcement to prepare the Evas for launch! I want this video feed piped into each of the entry plugs so that they get an idea of what they\'re going against. The Angels have begun moving again, it\'s SOUL\'s job to make sure they\'re stopped!\"

Shinji had finished changing into the plug suit, and pressed the button on the lift wrist causing the suit to tighten to his form and set itself. Several moments afterwards he stepped into the small control box that Toji and Ritsuko were working feverishly in to get the Evangelion ready. Shinji looked quietly at the Eva\'s head, his stomach doing a sluggish backflip as he wondered again about if he\'d made the right choice to see if the Eva could activate. However it was an incident that had happened while he was gone that firmed his resolve. -I have to do this... for Keiko.-

Ritsuko moved from one computer to yet another her left hand doing the work alone as she pointed to another computer, \"Toji, I need you to start the draining process of the coolant. Shinji, go ahead and head over to the plug insert and get yourself ready I don\'t think we\'ll need you this fight, but I just want you ready to go to be safe.\"

A shudder passed through the complex, and Shinji was forced to look upwards it must mean one of the Evas had launched because two more shudders passed in rapid succession. He did however do as he was told, and slid into the command seat of the plug insert moments before it moved into the plug. A yellowish brown liquid began to fill the inside of the plug and when the LCL reached his mouth, he hesitantly took a breath of it. -This still smells like blood, then again that\'s what it is.-

Soon enough though the plug underwent a series of changes, instead of being filled with the murky liquid it was like he could see through air. He could see everything through the eyes of the Eva, it must have worked, Unit 01 was active.

\"Major Katsuragi, Units 00 and 05 are set to provide cover for Unit 02... what the hell?!\"

\"What is it Maya? Has the angel begun it\'s attack on the Evas?\"

\"No ma\'am... a fourth Eva just appeared on my screens and is listed as Unit 01, but... but how could that be?\"

\"No need to worry, it\'s back up for the Evas that are already out there. Ritsuko must have decided to bypass the synch test and get Eva Unit 01 up and running. Give me a line to Unit 01.\"

\"Yes ma\'am.\"

Misato looked at the topographical map layed out in holographic detail before the entire command center, and concentrated on the three colored lights that represented the Evas, and the fourth black light which showed the Angel\'s location.

\"Shinji, is Eva Unit 01 ready to go into battle if it\'s needed?\"

Sitting in the entry plug Shinji almost jumped at the voice, and the picture that popped up off to the side of his vision. He gripped the triggers on the hand held units of the insert and blinked before nodding, \"Yes, it can enter battle.\"

The pair of men in the command center\'s trio looked surprised at the words, \"Shinji\'s piloting?!\" Hyuga cried out before he knew what he was saying.

Aoba looked down at his screen and replied almost immediately after Hyuga, \"Receiving Synchro-graphs... his number is currently seven points higher than Asuka\'s! He hasn\'t touched the Evas in years, and he\'s still as strong as ever!\"

Misato silenced the pair with a single glare and cut herself into the cockpit of the three Evas standing on the surface about to engage in battle with the Angel, \"Alright you three, listen up I want you to coordinate attacks. Rei you and Kensuke provide covering fire for Asuka.. Asuka I want you to try and get up close and nullify the AT field.\" Three pilots nodded and voiced their consent to the plan and a single word escaped each of their lips, \"Understood.\"

Asuka\'s fiery hair floated like a halo around her face in the cockpit, as she looked to the other two pilots. The red Unit 02 began to almost instantly move, running straight for the Angel. The staff kept as a weapon system extended as the Eva charged, flanked on either side by a pair of volleys from the Pallet guns of unit\'s 00 and 05. A cloud of smoke rose and Asuka grinned as the Eva leapt, the staff spinning quickly above the head of the Eva before slicing through the cloud of smoke. Asuka laughed thinking she had delivered the final stroke, but when the staff cleaved through only air she yelled out, \"Sheisse! Aida do you see it?\"

\"No, what about you Ayanami?\"

\"I do not see it.\"

From inside the cloud Asuka fumed, the thing had just avoided her attack even though it couldn\'t see it coming. Instead of staying in the cloud to cover the Eva, she started to head out when a scream came over the cockpit lines. Ayanami\'s line then went silent, \"Aida what the hell happened to Ayanami?\"

\"That thing just came out of the smoke, a hell of a lot faster than I could track. Rei\'s unit has been damage, the left arm has been taken clean off.. this thing is fast... Ahhhh shit!\"

Kensuke was forced to bring the pallet gun in line, the Angel had moved on from Rei\'s Eva, and in a span of three seconds time had crossed a gap of almost a kilometer and a half. It was like he was under attack before he could even blink. The rifle managed to absorb the impact of the weapon as he hopped the Eva back ejecting the pair of progressive knives from their shoulder housings. Holding each of the blades in a backwards facing direction he lead the Eva into a short charge, with the right shoulder lowered in an attempt to take the angel from its feet.

Just as he seemed to hit the angel, it was gone from in front of him and had stepped around its form completely blurred as it seemed to move at high speeds. The fingers of the angel which had once been propotionate to its size lengthed. In the place of those fingers now stood five long scything talons, which would have come across at waist level of the Eva if it weren\'t for a barrage from Rei\'s pallet rifle.

The atmosphere rippled around the angel as the Absolute Terror field sprang into being deflecting the blow, then Kensuke realized his mistake. He hadn\'t activated the AT field of his own Eva, how could he have been so stupid? In an instant the AT field was up and active but it was too late, all he saw was a blur of gold flashing once again in Ayanami\'s direction. He dropped one of the knifes bringing up the pistol attach to the leg of his Eva and snapped several shots at it.

Somehow the Angel was moving even faster than expected, and the blurred form flashed to the left letting the shots pass it by. However that was Kensuke\'s hope, which had put the Angel in the path of Rei\'s pallet rifle which fired off a short barrage of only two shells before the clip self ejected from the rifle. The angel saw it\'s weakness and hauled back one arm before sending it in a sharp arch for Unit 00\'s exposed waist. The entire exchange had only taken three seconds, between it leaving Kensuke\'s Eva several moments after the impact from Rei\'s rifle, and the time it had reached Rei.

Unit 00 would have been cut in two had the blow connected with full force. However it was a streaking red Evangelion that cut the attack short, only managing to get halfway through before the unit struck the Angel broad side sending it tumbling away through a large grouping of trees. Asuka looked to Rei\'s Eva and her eyes widened, it was badly damaged, but Kensuke\'s was fine. -It\'s up to you now Asuka, time to save these two and make sure they\'re alright!-

Unit 02 slipped into a crouch before leaping into a high arcing flip, and landed where Asuka had thought the Angel would have landed. Instead it was already gone and she searched frantically for it, only to have it\'s location pinpointed by Aida\'s scream. She brought the Eva around and stared at the angel that now held the entry plug in a once again normal hand, and held the Eva\'s body aloft in the other perforated in five spots through the torso by the finger talons.

It regarded the entry plug before casually flipping it over its shoulder, as if it was nothing more than a piece of garbage. Rei\'s Unit 00 was sprinting for the entry plug, and Asuka understood her intention of catching the entry plug. Switching the staff to one hand, Asuka brought the Eva\'s pistol up in a smooth arc and fired off a pair of shots leading the Angel away from Rei\'s path. This thing had just heavily damaged two Evangelion units, and there was one undamaged Eva that stood between this thing and the city.

\"Well, God has no miracles for us.. Misato what have you got?\"
