Exasperated Plunge

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the FB characters, though I do own my own little chibi Yuki, Kyou, and Haru!

This is a short chapter I know but I promise that the next one will be much longer. Expect some Lime in the next chapter!

Enjoy!

Exasperated Plunge

It was completely pitch black save for the half moon that shone at least some light on the ground. Wind blew strong in every direction though the twinkling of the stars was not obscured by the clouds that had been looming over them for the previous nights. The two cousins were lucky that neither had any problem seeing in the night on what was a very treacherous path.

Yuki estimated that they had walked for at least 8 miles in the direction of the old house that Tohru’s grandfather had told them about. He assumed that they were getting close since directly to the side of them was a drop that would most certainly spell disaster for any other normal person should they happen to fall.

To top off Yuki’s darkening mood he happen to walk behind Kyou as they made their way up the side of the hill and now there was no other alternative than to follow the clumsy cat. On more than one occasion since they had started their ascent to the old house he had to correct Kyou on his footing so that he wouldn’t end up face first down the chasm, and he was becoming enormously irritated with having to watch not only where he was walking but the baka neko as well.

Likewise Kyou was becoming very irritated with being reprimanded where he should and shouldn’t walk. He was the cat for crying out loud he could see very well in the dark! Much as it normally did in every day situations Yuki’s criticism was getting the best of him and his concentration was leaving from trying to watch where he was walking to trying to prove he could do it without the damn rats help.

As much as he was hoping that they would find Tohru at this house he found himself wishing even more that they wouldn’t because if indeed she had came here he doubted she would have been able to climb this side of the mountain without falling, and in the rain no less. His thoughts were interrupted as Yuki grabbed a hold of his sweater and pulled him back.

“What the hell…”

“Baka neko, the ground is still weak from the storm. If you step there you are going to fall directly down the side of the mountain.”

“I know exactly where I’m going! So stop bossing me around like you’re my father.” Kyou jerked his sweater away from Yuki and leap gracefully over the patch and dirt that, now that he looked at it, did appear quiet weak. As angry he was with the fact that Yuki was commanding him to do things he was more aggravated with himself for having not noticed it before. He would have to pay at least a little more attention to the where he was walking.

Kyou heard the soft thump as he assumed Yuki had leap over the same spot and he continued to walk on. Why is he looking out for me all of a sudden anyway? He mused as they made a very sharp turn over a fall tree. He heard a ripping like sound so he glanced behind him to see that Yuki had gotten his jacket tangled in one of the fallen branches.

“Humph, serves him right.” He said barely under his breath as another gust of wind blew several leaves directly into his face and mouth. Kyou started choking madly at the awful taste in his mouth and tried to pull the leaves from his eyes. Unfortunately the blockage in his face didn’t stop him from walking as he continued along the path and directly onto a patch of trail that looked like it was barely strong enough to hold up Kyou as a cat let alone as a human.

“Kyou!” Yuki screamed as Kyou’s foot came in contact with the unsettled earth.

The neko could feel the earth rumble a bit as he stopped directly in the center of the bad part of ground and finished getting the slushy leaves form his face. His anger boiled to a breaking point as he heard the neso nezumi call his name again.

“Look I don’t need your HELLLLLP!” Kyou screamed as the earth gave way and he felt himself tumbling down but he didn’t fall. He looked up and saw Yuki bending over the side on his knees holding onto the sleeve of Kyou’s sweater. Normally Kyou would have easily jumped when the fall began but he was slightly caught off guard and during the little tumble his foot had somehow gotten caught in a branch and was making it quiet difficult to get his footing.

“Behind you!” Kyou screamed as he saw what looked like an avalanche of mud falling down the top side of the mountain, no doubt because of the small cave in that Kyou had caused. His call of caution to Yuki was all but too late as Yuki looked up the wall of mud hit him and engulfed the two of them sending them tumbling together down the side of the mountain.

During the plummet somehow Yuki had found himself falling after Kyou, probably because the mud that had fallen had hit him first and sent him down pulling Kyou with him. He could feel the branches and rocks cutting at him and knew that the fall was going to hurt though he doubted it would be bad enough to kill them. He knew that they would just have to start the climb all over again.

Yuki hit the ground first on his back with a loud thud followed by a muffled scream as Kyou landed directly on top of him with an almost feral groan of pain. Almost as soon as they hit the ground instincts took over as they both flung their arms around each other to protect themselves for the oncoming of the rest of the mud avalanche.

As the rest of the rocks and dirt clods pounded onto the pile that was Kyou and Yuki they both silently called out for help before both of their worlds were surrounded in shadows.

A/N: The reason why this had to be so short was because I wanted to leave it at a cliff hanger…hehe…are they going to be okay? Will someone find them? Is this the reason why the story is called Mortality? Well in order to find out you gotta review because I won’t put the next one up without the reviews!
