Illness
*****Chapter Five (Illness)*****
“First that old hag brings me a monkey, then I meet that unruly Taisho, and now this. How troublesome.” He huffed acting irritated as other Kamis watched him and greeted him. He was lying again. Actually, this beat doing paperwork.
After a short walk he arrived at the door to Tenpou’s library of a home. The blond knocked gently and leaned closer to the door to talk. “Kenren, it’s me. Can I come in?” Konzen sounded irritated. Well, he was. Only because there were people watching and his reputation as the ice queen who didn’t care about anyone was being tarnished. “Open up!” He demanded a bit harsher.
Kenren yanked the door open not looking much happier than Konzen at this point. “What do you want, blondie? Sorry, but Tenpou’s out of commission right now, so he can’t talk. Now get lost.” Harsh words from the black haired Taisho. Upon closer inspection, the General appeared to have been up all night. Dark circles lined his redden eyes. Along with a snippy attitude. If he hadn’t known the man better, he would have thought him to be high.
Konzen looked uneasy and glanced around to see if anyone would hear him say this except for Kenren. “I’m here to check on Tenpou. I heard about what happened and…” He was unsure of what to say. Honestly, he didn’t know how to put words to what he wanted. “I just…”
Kenren suddenly seemed awake and apologetic when he realized what Konzen was trying to say. “Oh! Right, I’m sorry.” Kenren stepped aside and opened the door enough for the slender blonde male to enter. “He’s on the couch.” Kenren said motioning to Tenpou.
Konzen walked in and slowly approached the couch not sure what he might see. What he did see when he finally made it was the chocolate haired man curled up on the couch covered in bandaged cuts and bruises. He was laying on his side with his knees pulled close in a protective position. His eyes were shut, sleeping soundly, and breathing lightly. Konzen’s eyes caught a dark discoloration under the edge of the Marshal’s shirt. It appeared to be large and extended both up under the shirt and down into his pants. The injury made Konzen’s stomach lurch.
Kenren stepped up next to Konzen and spoke softly. Softer than the blonde had ever heard the rowdy General speak before. “He thrashes about in his sleep now. I had to hold him down last night. He just wouldn’t wake up, and I couldn’t get him to stop thrashing. When he finally calmed down, he trembled the rest of the night. He’s got a fever too. Started getting sick about a day after I brought him back. Can’t get the damn thing to break.”
Konzen looked around and noticed Kenren’s things laying a strew on the floor. He looked back at the Taisho and raised an eyebrow.
“I’ve been staying with him since he got sick. I’ve never seen him sick before. I’ve heard that Kamis can get sick, but it only happens on rare occasions. Never been sick myself, so I don’t know what to do.” Kenren confessed and walked away. “Want somethin’ to drink? I made tea, or kinda. It doesn’t really taste like tea. More like dirty water, but it isn’t too bad after you get used to the taste.”
Konzen kept staring down at Tenpou. Ignoring the question, he spoke. “Do you think he has anything about illness in one of his handy little books?”
“I’ve been looking. Haven’t had any luck though.” Kenren regrettably plopped down in a chair and looked back at the other two males as he took a swig of sake. “On the up side, he hasn’t gotten worse. On the down side, he hasn’t gotten any better either.”
