Chapter 5
Author's notes: Finally Chapter 5! This chapter gave me such a headache as I had to stretch if from only 5 paragraphs. It is now now...a whoping 18 paragraphs long. Also going back through this one I was having trouble writing Schuldig and Nagi reacting to each other so I spent several days trying to work that out so it would go smoothly. Oh yeah...hehe...now we get to the good stuff...behold....PLOT! Well you know at least a little.
Chapter 5
Sharp clicks and taps rang out through the large, darkened office where Nagi had secluded himself. Small fingers worked rigorously upon the key pad attempting to make some sense out of the cryptic code upon the blaring white screen. The office in it's self was rather plush with it's expensive Mahogony desk and high backed leather computer chair. Typical of Crawford, he always did like expensive things and it showed just in the way he carried himself alone. Nagi gave a bit of an annoyed huff, between Crawford and Schuldig they always ended up living like they were royalty. Though Schuldig was much less likely to share his indulgences with the others. It just seemed...so over done in his mind, a mind he felt quickly being invaded as a low German accent rang in his ears.
“Have you found anything on their next assignment yet?” A sultry voice broke though the obsessive clicking in the darkness. Lean fingers grazing over the soft leather back of the chair; Schuldig oozed danger and guilty pleasures.
A small bead of sweat formed on little Nagi’s brow, something about being alone with the German always made him a bit uncomfortable. He had been working for hours trying to crack the code Kritiker was now using for the Weiss missions. Being a little worn down didn't help Nagi put up a good set of mental barriers either. Their plan was to catch Weiss off guard on their next mission to get a hold of Aya but things weren’t going their way and Crawford's patience was wearing thin. Therefore enter a very cranky Schuldig with the strong urge to cause a little mental scarring after being bitched at by dear old Bradly.
Truth of the matter was that Schwarz had been tailing Weiss for close to a half a year now. Somewhere along the way Crawford had discovered something very interesting about Fujimiya and sent Schuldig to collect a little blood sample for them. It wasn't that hard to do...just back Aya into a corner and score him with a bullet. A simple enough task and the whole thing went down rather well with out Weiss suspecting a thing. They wouldn't even have another run in with them after that...just keep close tabs was all until suspicions were confirmed.
Hell Schuldig reckoned Aya didn't even know why his sister was in town yet. That was his little addition to the plan...as Aya would be much easier to deal with if they had ahold of his precious little sister again. Well maybe not easier to deal with...in fact he'd probably go down right psycho on them...but that was the point wasn't it? That's what Crawford wanted because he'd found something in his blood and that something didn't make him quite human. Schuldig smiled at the thought wondering how Aya's pain would taste after he found out the truth. Found out that his beloved parents had lied to him for 16 years, never bothering to tell him the truth. Aya was in fact adopted and there for not of their blood, or his dear little sisters blood either. It made Schuldig almost wriggle with delight despite his growing bad mood.
Strong hands moved forward gripping the small boy’s shoulders and squeezing tightly making him wince. “What’s taking so long? You haven't had this much trouble before.” He smirked in the dark, white teeth baring like a wolf. “I thought you were the boy genius who could figure anything out?” His breath was hot and seductive next to the boys ear. Schuldig knew he was testing some dangerous waters, after all Nagi could very well just turn around and slam him into the opposite wall with out touching him. But the orange haired German was in the mood for some play and more than likely Nagi would just sit there and take it. He had trained him well after all...a little verbal abuse and the boy would go down quickly.
Nagi gritted his teeth loathing that touch and despising that ultra smooth voice. “I’m doing the best I can Schuldig!” Bit’s of hatred coursed through his words. /Why can’t he leave me alone? I hate this./ He shrugged the hands off his shoulders rather forcefully and continued typing. "You're not helping by the way." His tone was moody and he really wasn't in any shape to deal with Schuldig's mind games at the moment either. "Why don't you go play with someone else?" Nagi dared a look back at Schuldig through muddy teal colored eyes.
“We’ve got to get this done Nagi!” He sounded angry now, down right pissed Crawford was obviously getting anxious and pressing his proverbial fingers into Schuldig's side. He had lost a little of that playful, cool attitude. White knuckled hands were now balled into fists ready to fly with out a given notice.
The sporty orange haired German had quite a temper on him to say the least. One Nagi tried desperately to avoid if at all possible. He had seen the effects of that temper all too many times. If Schuldig had one fault, that was it. Nagi could see however why Estet had chosen him a few years ago. With that much energy he was a perfect candidate although his leadership abilities were a bit lacking. Now Estet was gone though and they were working "free range" at the moment. No one but Crawford to give out the orders. No one except Crawford to hold Schuldig back now. That thought alone frightened Nagi just a little bit. He knew Farfarello was crazy but he wasn't sure just how far off Schuldig was from joining him.
/Heh…you’re probably just in a pinch cause Crawford’s on your case./ “What, is Crawford breathing down the back of your neck again?” Nagi made a pointed tap on the delete key emphasizing his point at rudeness. Dark eyes turned toward him again over an obviously cold shoulder. The boy was walking his own fine line right now as well but it would never do to just back down to the German...that's what he wanted. It was the standard mind games that these two engaged in all too frequently but Nagi didn't like where things were going. He was really just too tired to deal with it all.
Schuldig clenched his teeth in an effort not to hit the boy, that would just send Nagi over the edge and they'd never get anything done. Damn though he wanted to take out his frustration on someone. “What Crawford says to me is none of your business but, I am to inform you that we are running out of time! So… get going you little shit! Their next mission is in a couple of days.” He turned to go perhaps thinking Farfarello might make a better companion for the evening...maybe they'd go out...hunting?
"Oh and don't forget dear little Nagi...I'm not the only one waiting for those results." Schuldig then left closing the door just hard enough to make it echo a bit through out the room.
Nagi considered himself lucky that Schuldig had decided to leave rather than take his anger out on his frail body. He hated when Schuldig was rough with him, like he owned him or something. /Bakayaro. Who gives a shit if Crawford's my legal guardian? Like legalities mean jack to us anyway./ Besides Crawford really didn't give a shit what Schuldig did to Nagi as long as the boy was capable of preforming his duties. It was like some sick parody of an abusive family and it had only gotten worse now that they didn't have anyone to answer too. Sure Crawford could handle the business side of things very well, he always kept them in hot cash and fresh blood. Nagi couldn't help but wonder though what sort of little tyranny Crawford was trying to procure for himself though.
He knew the importance of trapping Aya Fujimiya as soon as possible. With new evidence coming up at every turn they couldn’t afford not to get him into their hands this next time around especially since Schuldig had so thoughtfully thrown his sister into the mix. It was no wonder he never got along with any of the other Weiss members. He wasn’t ‘One’ of them. He was what they were looking for all along and he was right under their noses. Nagi could sense something different about him from their very first battle. Even though they had never clashed personally there was just something about him. Of course who would listen to him? So he let things slide and waited to see how long it would take before the rest caught on. /Silly Crawford. What a fool you can be sometimes./
Yes, Aya Fujimiya had demonic blood, plain and simple. Enough in him in fact that some very profitable things could come from getting him in their control. Crawford it seemed had taken up a little intrest in biology during his free time and he wanted Aya for his guinea pig. Nagi could only speculate what Crawford really wanted him for because it didn't seem like he felt like sharing much with the other three these days.
Just orders, orders and more orders.../Has Crawford lost his ideal?/ For a second the trace of a smile caught the corner of Nagi's mouth. /What would it be like if.../ It vanished quickly though, he had learned better than to let his thoughts wander for too long. Even if his present comrades weren't in the vicinity it was best to keep one's self guarded.
One more key stroke and a sigh. /Finally!/ Nagi broke through the code to reveal exact details as to where Weiss would ambush their next target. An old power plant just off of Shindo Ave. in the old district of Tokyo. He looked up to the large oval clock on the wall. Not too late, he could get this into Crawford tonight and just not have to deal with it any longer.
Standing slowly from the chair Nagi stretched his lithe form a bit of tension releasing now that Schuldig was gone. /Funny…we know what they are after before they do. Perhaps we should take out their targets before them? Just to make sure there will be no distractions./ He could not help but to suppress a small triumphant smile of his own. After all he just had done something useful and while it was for someone he despised, inwardly it gave him a sense of completion. Nagi hated to admit that he did need approval and he would stop at nothing to get it. At least Schwartz gave him a reason, and a place to belong even if he didn’t really agree with them. What more could he do? He would continue on, doing as they wished.
