Chapter 5 -- Heaven In Your Eyes

Chapter 5 -- Heaven In Your Eyes

It was late that evening when we arrived at the Moon Kingdom. Another ball had been staged, and I realized that Queen Beryl had planned this around such an event for the purpose of having a large portion of the kingdom there without weapons to protect themselves. The guards were pathetic, and we plowed past them with ease, not allowing them to scream or alert anyone else. We knew, however, that the only princess who was in attendance at the party was Princess Serena, and he was busy with her prince. Princess Amiya would probably still be in her room, and as Zoicite was no longer there to protect her, she would be guarded by one of the aforementioned weaklings.

As I approached her room, I slowed down my pace from a lightning fast run to a gentle stroll. If I was to keep from alerting the guard before I could snap his neck, I would have to appear as though nothing was wrong. Much to my delight, the guard was fast asleep in a chair next to the door.

‘This is going to be easier than I thought,’ I said to myself.

“She’s not in her room, Kunzite-sama,” Zoicite said to me in my head. “What should I do?”

“Keep looking for her,” I said, swallowing hard to keep from cracking. “She may have gone down to the party. What have you done with her room guard?”

“He’s drunk,” he laughed. “The man will be killed soon enough, and I don’t think he recognized me, so I just left him.” I nodded, and I knew that he felt it. I opened the door of Princess Amiya’s room, and realized that she was asleep as well, which I found quite strange because it was still early in the evening. I drew my knife, and slowly climbed up onto her bed. She must have been sleeping pretty soundly because she didn’t even stir as I hovered over her, my knife clutched tightly in my hand. As I looked down at her, I saw how beautiful she was, and I understood the attraction that Zoicite had for her. As I began to slowly cut the shape of a heart in her chest with the tip of my blade, which was really only a scratch, her eyes opened groggily, not realizing yet that she was bleeding, not yet in pain.

“Zoi-kun?” she said softly, her eyes not adjusted to the darkness.

“No, pretty little thing,” I said. “It’s someone else, someone who is now your beloved’s lover.”

“Kunzite!” she gasped, recognizing my voice. I put my hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming, moving the knife up to her neck.

“Stay quiet, Princess,” I warned. “Stay quiet and I won’t rape you. Otherwise, I’ll give you something to be noisy about, and you’ll actually enjoy it before you die!”

“Where’s Zoicite?” Amiya whispered when I removed my hand.

“He’s on his way to take care of the other two,” I lied. “There will be no one to protect Queen Serenity and her prissy little daughter from the wrath of Queen Beryl. As for you, you won’t live to see the clock strike midnight.” Not letting her utter another sound, I sliced her throat open and embedded the knife in her chest. The blood splattered on my face, and I felt the last of my humanity breaking way, except for my love for Zoicite. I knew that if Zoicite had not yet killed Maena, I could do it myself, without a shred of remorse. However, I wasn’t sure if he would be able to kill mercilessly as easily without killing her himself.

“Is it done?” Zoicite asked.

“Yes,” I said. “I’m getting ready to head back toward you.”

“Disguise yourself and join me at the party,” he said, and I beamed at the idea. “I want to dance with you before this world turns to Hell.”

“Meet me at our old room, Little One,” I said. “I have a special outfit that I’ve never worn that I want to change into, including a new mask.”

“Be there in a flash!” he said cheerfully. I teleported to the room, and he was close behind. Had it not been for the blood on my face and clothes, he probably would’ve tried to turn our time together into a long make-out session. Instead, Zoicite immediately reached for a washcloth and washed the blood from my face. He knew that it was HER blood, and he didn’t want to have to face it. As soon as we changed our clothes, we walked out of the bedroom and into the apartment parlor. There, to our surprise, sat Maena, weeping over the same letter that I had written to her only a few nights before.

“Oh no…” I said, my smile quickly fading as I realized that she was there.

“Leave it to me, Kunzite-sama,” Zoicite said, pulling out his knife and starting to rush toward her.

“ZOICITE, STOP!” I yelled, and he froze in his tracks. “This is my fight, Little One.”

“You really have changed, Kunzite-kun,” Maena said, crumpling up my letter. The fire in her eyes was wild, and they flashed orange. “I didn’t want to believe it, but now I see that I don’t have a choice but to fight you.”

“I told you that this would happen, Princess,” I said. “Fight hard because I will not be holding back.” In the back of my mind, I knew that I didn’t want to do this, but the darkness in my soul was still growing stronger. “But whoever wins, My Darling, know that the two of you here are my pride and joy.” Time seemed to stand still, both of them watching me intently without making a single move. “You, Princess, are my joy because you are the first woman I ever loved. And Zoicite, you are my pride because I have trained you, and you in turn have loved me.” I took Zoicite‘s hand, pulling him to me and kissing him softly, causing Maena to growl in disgust at my betrayal. “This darkness in me has clouded my heart to everything else but my love for you, Zoicite.” I looked over at Maena, and held a cocky grin. “Just because you are my joy, Princess, I DO NOT love you anymore.”

“Fight me then, you bastard!” Maena seethed, pulling a dagger from a sheath at her waist. Before I could make a move, however, I saw flashes of red and gold, and the next thing I knew, she had her own dagger in her chest. There stood Jadeite and Nephrite, their clothes splattered with the blood of the other two princess, and now that of Maena. But as she fell to the floor, I felt an uncontrollable urge to rush to her side. I looked to Zoicite, and he nodded his understanding.

“Princess,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around her weakening body. “I’m… I’m sorry.”

“It’s not true, what you said, is it?” she whimpered. “About not loving me anymore…”

“No, of course not,” I said. “I said that because I wanted to fight you fairly, but I knew I couldn’t fight you without you thinking that I no longer loved you. It wasn’t my intention to set you up for an ambush.”

“Please, Kunzite-kun, don’t talk,” Maena said. “Just hold me while I go to sleep, please? The funny thing, my love, is that I‘ve always seen Heaven in your eyes. Maybe one day I‘ll see you there. In Heaven, I mean…”

“Yes, my Darling,” I said. My hand pressed her head to my chest, and I wept over her as I felt her take her last breaths.

“That was pathetic,” Jadeite laughed, and I immediately wanted to kill him. “I can’t believe you still held feelings for your pretty little princess. I killed Reina myself and didn’t think twice about it.”

“Shut up, Jade!” Zoicite said before I could. “Just because he fell in love with me doesn’t mean he stopped loving HER. I know that I never could’ve killed Princess Amiya myself, but Kunzite-sama did it for me. Don’t you see how hard this is for him?”

“Well, I find it so ironic that you still call him Kunzite-sama when it’s pretty obvious that he’s your Koi-bito now,” Nephrite said. He was close enough to me that I back-handed him, still not letting go of Maena. “What the hell?”

“Don’t you ever talk to Zoicite like that again,” I said, softly. “Or I will do far worse to you than I have done to anyone, ever.”

“What, are you going to do, fuck me?”

“SHUT UP!!!”

All four of us turned around, and there stood our master and prince, Prince Endymion. He seemed to have a dark look in his eyes, one like we had never seen in him. He was wearing his normal white armor, but it seemed to lack the normal luster that it usually held.

“Master!” Zoicite gasped, dropping to his knees. We all thought we were in trouble, as he was the first one with any power over us to confront us.

“Don’t be afraid,” he said with a wicked smile. “Please, Little One, get up. We have a plan to execute.” Endymion took Zoicite’s hand and lifted him to his feet. “I know that I will probably die tonight, protecting Princess Serena, but the four of you must fight to please Queen Beryl. I’ve seen a vision of the future, of all five of us together again on Earth. We will fight against each other, but ultimately we will join forces once again. It will not matter whose side we are on, we will band together and we WILL win.”

“Fight hard, don’t look back,” I said.

“We fight for victory, and the world’s ending!” Zoicite said.

“May the stars guide us in our path,” Nephrite said.

“Follow what your inner being tells you to do!” Jadeite finally said.

“Stay strong, everyone!” Endymion said. “If I must die, I will die with honor, protecting the things that I love.”
