Chapter 5
Fallen and Celiena stood upon the crest of a hill, looking down at their destination: Riven. From this distance, they could see lots of activity within the small town, as residents eagerly made their home ready for their annual Poke-Festival, which generally drew crowds from all over the Mountian League, and even Tamers from other Leagues.
Located on the banks of one of the Mountian League’s great rivers, the most noticeable feature of Riven was the great bridge spanning the distance of the ever-flowing river. It’s stonework was covered with intricate designs, designs that were said to originate from ancient times, thousands of years before Sukebe. Many of these designs were partly-covered by lush green ivy and other climbing plants.
Once you were able to tear your gaze from the bridge, you would soon notice the other major landmark of Riven. Dwarfing the other buildings, and rivaling the beauty of the bridge, was the town’s Pokecenter/Gym. Made almost entirely out of wood, the huge sphere rose out of the surrounding trees, subtle designs carved delicately into it’s surface. The lower floors of the sphere contained the Pokecenter, while the upper floor housed Riven’s Gym.
Taking her hand in his, Fallen led the way down the sloping hill towards the town.
As the two of them were walking across the Riven Bridge, looking at the activity going on throughout the town, they were nearly crashed into by a man with dark blue hair, who was wearing a skin tight body suit with six Pokeballs hanging on the front, half of which were hidden underneath a long tanned coat, with a star embroidered on the back, and a pack hanging off one shoulder.
The Tamer muttered a quick apology as he ran off towards the other side of town. “He must be in a hurry...” Celiena said as she watched the man running in the distance.
“What was your first clue?” Fallen muttered sarcastically, glaring in the direction the man had left.
“Fallen....” Celiena began, but shook her head in dismay. That’s just the way he is.. She thought, as they began walking across the bridge again. “Well, I think we should hurry and get a hotel room before they are all taken.” she suggested.
“Good idea.” Fallen replied, looking down the bridge at all the hotels with ‘No Vacancy’ signs. Spotting a hotel without a sign, he grabbed Celiena’s hand and took off towards the building.
They were lucky to find a room, the last one in the hotel. As a Timid Maid Yvette opened the door to their room, Fallen felt a cold draft coming from the room opposite theirs. Shrugging this off as either a faulty cooling system, or a Tamer with lots of Ice-types.
Their room was a fair size, there was a small sitting area with a few couches, a separate bedroom with two beds, a small kitchen area, and a bathroom off to the side. A large patio door took up most of the opposite wall, giving them a wonderful view of the river and surrounding forests.
Celiena ran out onto the balcony to look at the view, while Fallen gave the Maid Yvette a small tip for bringing them to their room. Blushing deeply, she quickly left the room, nearly toppling over a Titmouse maid on her way.
“Fallen....You should see the view from this place” Celiena called out to him from the balcony.
Placing their packs beside one of the beds, he walked over to her, putting his arms around her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder. “It is a beautiful site.”
After they had finished unpacking their gear, Fallen and Celiena decided to take a tour of Riven. People throughout the town were busily preparing their shops, houses and streets for the upcoming festival.
Banners were being strung high above the streets, and temporary shops were being setup along the already crowded streets. Browsing though these various stalls, Fallen was surprised at the diversity of the objects being sold. You could find everything from Tamer gear, to pottery, and even some pre-Sukebe recreations like pocket-watches, furniture and jewelry.
At one of these stalls, Fallen purchased two Collars, quickly hiding the objects in his coat when Celiena appeared by his side.
“Fallen...what are you hiding underneath your coat?” Celiena asked, pointing at his chest. “Are you hiding something from me?”
Sighing, he slowly removed the small package from beneath his coat. “Well, I was going to give it to you later...” Locating the one for Celiena, he carefully handed a small box over to her.
Smiling, Celiena gently opened the box, her eyes widening when she saw what was inside. “Oh, Fallen!” Letting the box fall to the street, Celiena held the collar in her hands. Made from a thin ribbon of pure silk, died black, the collar had a small pendant hanging off of it, which contained the electronic device found in a Collars, delicately concealed in the shape of a silver rose.
Taking the collar from her hands, Fallen reached around behind her neck, and tied the ends of the ribbon together. Taking a step back, he looked at her, smiling.
Celiena’s hand moved up to the Collar, feeling the silk against her skin, tracing it down to the pendant, almost caressing it. She looked up, tears in her eyes. “Oh! Fallen!” she cried, as she embraced him, planting kisses on his neck and cheek, her tears falling onto his skin.
“I was going to give them to you and Shelob later.” he whispered into her ear.
“I’m sorry....oh...Fallen....I love it!” she cried, tightening her embrace.
Putting his arm around her, Fallen led her away from the stall, down the street towards the Pokecenter. “There’s one last thing I must do.” he whispered into her ear. Making their way through the crowds, he spotted the Tournament registration booth, and smiled.
As Fallen left the registration booth, Celiena looked at him in confusion and worry, surprised that he signed up for the Tournament. The Vixxen at the booth had given him a strange look as he signed up for the Tournament, having only two Pokegirls in his Harem.
“Fallen, I think our chances of being eliminated right off the start is pretty high.” Celiena told him as they were walking away. “Since there’s only me and Shelob. I wouldn’t be surprised of we are disqualified for even thinking of using a Widow in a Tournament.”
Fallen looked at her and smiled. “Celiena, I have faith in both of you. Together, we can do fairly well in this tournament, even win!”
She sighed. “Do well, yes. Win? Not a chance.”
As they were heading back to their Hotel, Fallen pushed Celiena against a wall seconds before a blast of lighting flew out from an alley. He could smell the stench of the tips of his hair being singed, and sighed at how close it had come to him.
Letting go of Celiena, he turned and headed into the alley to confront whoever had nearly fried him. “What the hell do you think you were doing...” he stopped in his tracks when he saw who had sent the lighting.
Two pokegirls were battling, which was not unusual at all, except for one thing. There was no Tamers in sight.
Fallen cautiously walked into the alley, narrowly avoiding a blast of ice, followed closely by a fireball. His eyes opened wide as he watched the precision of the attacks, and the almost liquid-movements of the girls.
One of the girls, her black robes covered in silver runes along the sleeves and trim. Her long black hair, with silver highlights, flowed down her back and around her, like it was being blown from some unknown wind. Crimson eyes glared at her opponent, as she readied another attack.
The other girl, wearing a short, Japanese-style dress, with thigh-high stockings and knee boots, smiled. Her grey eyes seemed to foresee the other’s attack. Her silver hair, with black highlights, blew around behind her, as she gripped a long staff tightly.
Closing her eyes for a moment, then quickly opening them, the first girl called out, her voice echoing with power. “Mystic Bolt!”
A large ball of light, laced with lightning flew from the girl’s hands, flying towards her opponent.
Smiling the other girl drew a card from nowhere. “Mirror! Reflect!”. Hitting the card with her staff, a large mirror appeared before the second girl, reflecting most of the attack back at her opponent.
“Shield!” the first girl cried out, and a semi-transparent curve of light appeared around her. The attack bounced off of this shield, and flew directly at Fallen.
Without any way of blocking it, or getting out of the way, Fallen raised his arms to cover his face, and slammed into the brick wall behind him.
Crying out in momentary pain, Fallen hit the wall, and fell to the ground, smoke rising from his clothes. Hearing his cry of pain, quickly brought the two girls out of their battle thoughts, and back to reality.
“Oh no!” cried the second girl, running towards Fallen, dropping her staff on the ground beside her.
“Great, look what you did!” the first girl said, walking to his other side, kneeling beside him. Tilting his head back, she looked into his eyes. “At least he’s still alive...”
“I did!” the second girl yelled. “It was your stupid Shield that bounced the attack the wrong way!”
“How the hell was I to know there was someone standing there!” the first girl glared at the other. “You can’t tell me that you knew he was standing there!”
“Well...no...” the second girl looked from her opponent, to Fallen. “But, fortunately, he doesn’t look that injured....”
Shaking his head, Fallen looked at each girl in turn. “Don’t yell at each other...please. It was my fault for watching you two.”
“Fallen!” Celiena cried out, running to his side. Seeing the other two girls, she took a battle-ready stance. “OK! Which one of you two did this!”
“Whoah! Wait a minute there, love!” the first girl said, giving Celiena a hard glance.
“Celiena ...It’s ok. It was my fault.” Fallen said, as he slowly got up. “I was standing in the wrong place.”
Closing her eyes, Celiena ran up and hugged Fallen tightly.
After a moment, the fist girl looked at the two of them. “We’re sorry. We should have been more careful.”
“Yeah, we’re very sorry. We always get into our practicing like that.” the second girl added, looking down.
“Practice?” Fallen asked. “Then, where’s your Tamer?”
“Uh..” the first girl said, looking away ashamed.
“...we don’t have one.....” the second girl finished. “No one wants us....”
Celiena turned and looked at the two girls. “Huh...why? What do you mean that nobody wants you?”
The first girl looked at Celiena, then looked away again. “Because of what we are. People say we’re nothing but trouble.”
“A Witch and a Clowmystic, without a Tamer.” the second girl added. “People don’t want to catch us, or have anything to do with us because we’ve been without a Tamer all of our lives....”
“Hell, we practically raised each other.” the first girl added, looking at Fallen.
“Why would they not want two powerful girls like you in their team?” Fallen asked, looking over the two girls. Though they were dirty from obviously living in the alleys and streets, they both had nice looking figures.
“Powerful?” the second girl asked.
Fallen nodded. “Yes. That Mystic Bolt really was amazing, and that Ice and Fire attacks before made me watch myself. Not to mention how quickly you both brought your shields up in time.”
This caused the two girls to blush deeply, embarrassed by Fallen’s praise. It seemed to him that the girls never had been complimented before, probably never paid attention to either.
Celiena looked at her Tamer, trying to see what he was thinking, then her eyes widened a little. “Fallen...”
He looked at her and smiled, causing Celiena to blush.
“I see.....” she looked at the two girls. “What are your names?” she asked gently.
The first girl bowed elegantly at Fallen and Celiena. “My name’s Royce, and I am a Witch.”
The second girl also bowed, but not as elegantly as the other girl. “And I’m Solistine, a Dark Clowmystic.”
“Dark Clowmystic?” Fallen asked.
“Yes....I am a Dark Clowmystic...because, well, I guess because of my past.” Solistine looked away, a tear falling down her cheek. Royce looked over at her, and took a step towards her.
Slowly embracing Solistine, Royce looked at Fallen and Celiena. “Sorry, my sis always gets like that when she thinks of our past.” A tear fell down her own cheek, but she remained strong, holding, and comforting her sister.
“Miss Royce...Miss Solistine... would you two like to have a Tamer?” Fallen asked the girls. “Though you two seem to be fine with each other.....” he turned to leave.
“...Tamer.....?” Solistine asked, looking at Fallen. Blinking, she looked up at her sister. “..sis?”
Royce smiled, and kissed her sister tenderly. “How about it?” This caused Solistine to smile, and kiss back. “Well, Fallen, I guess we can give it a try....”Smiling himself, Fallen took two Pokeballs out of his belt, and tossed them at the girls. Reaching out, the two girls caught the balls, smiling back. “Thank you.” Royce said, sliding her thumb across the activation switch, her sister doing the same.
Celiena smiled and hugged Fallen, as his Pokedex beeped twice, registering the two girls to his Harem.
