I do not own Gensomaden Saiyuki, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Through the Gates
The Merciful Goddess regarded the person standing in front of her curiously. It was certainly a strange request that had just been made.
“Are you so certain you want to do this? There will be no going back once it’s done,” se warned. “It may take you several lifetimes to find them again. You may not recognize them and they might not recognize you.”
“I’ll know them when the time comes and they’ll know me. I won’t give up on finding them. Ever.”
“I do admire your confidence in yourself and in them. If this is what you really want, I’ll grant my permission on one condition.”
“Name it.”
“That if, after five hundred years you haven’t found them, you return here and resume your place.”
“It will be done. Thank you, Merciful Goddess.”
“Well, this should be interesting to watch if nothing else,” se said, watching the other person walk away.

Shi strode directly from the Merciful Goddess’ presence to where Nataku’s body sat in limbo. She knelt down in front of what once was someone she thought of as her child, taking one cold hand in both of hers.
“I know you probably can’t hear me, Nataku. I’m pretty sure you’re far away from here now. I just hope to all the gods that you’re fine and doing better than you were here. I’m leaving too. Not quite the way you did. Who would have ever accused you of being a drama king, huh? Li Touten was so pissed. You would have loved the expression on his face, I think,” she said with a smile. “I’m going to the world below to find Tenpou and the rest. Hopefully, I’ll find you too in whatever form you’ve chosen.” She stood and leaned forward to kiss the top of his head. “I love you, sweetheart. If I could have ever chosen my children they would have been you and Goku. Sleep well, son.”
It took every ounce of strength in her to walk away and not look back. If she looked back, she thought, she’d never be able to leave him and she had to. She had to find Tenpou and the others. Somehow. In some time if not this one.
She rounded a corner, headed for the Gates and almost ran into Thies and Perth, who looked as though they were packed and waiting for her.
Thies held up a hand before she could protest. “We go where you go, General. That’s not negotiable,” Thies said firmly.
“You do know it might take centuries to find them,” Shi pointed out.
“We’re aware,” Perth said. “We go where you go.”
Shi sighed. “Fine. Since it’s obvious I’ll not be talking and/or ordering you out of it.”
Thies smirked. “Not a chance.”
“Have I mentioned you’re the most stubborn second I’ve ever had?” Shi said.
“Multiple occasions, General.”
“Thank all the gods for that,” Shi said. “Come on. We’re wasting time here.”
I\'m just like you,
Oh you know it\'s true
Don\'t give up my friend
This is not the end
And so it was that one of Generals of the Southern Army willingly walked out of the gates of Heaven and into the world below.

The song used in this chapter is Try to Find Me by Gorky Park. I don’t own it either, making no cash, etc.
