Chapter 6

Leon watched as D slept, he hated to do this to him but this was between him & D’s father. Slipping out of the room he hoped no-one else would notice him. The night air drifted into the room as Leon left, T-Chan nodded and went to wake D.

About 6 hours later Leon was driving into Los Angeles. He needed to find a place to rest and some painkillers, the pain from his arm and back was terrible. Then he could find D’s Father.

Jill walked into the shop and saw D rushing around gathering items together. “What’s going on Count?”
“Ah Miss Jill, Leon has gone to meet my father and I am afraid the encounter will not go well.”
“Oh Fuck. He followed up on the address I gave him, didn’t he?”
“Indeed Miss Jill, I fear my father allowed you to find it, it is unfortunate that we do not get on well.” Jill hid a smile, only D could describe his father wanting to murder Leon as not getting on well. “Would you be able to drive us there, I fear for Leon’s safety without my presence.” Q-Chan chipped. “Yes, you will come too.” Jill nodded and opened the door. “We will have company Count, a FBI agent has been sniffing around and he doesn’t like your father and we fear he may think you are him.” D’s eyes glittered. “I think I shall be able to cope.”

Leon woke, the hotel room was basic but at least it had afforded him some time to plan his entrance to the penthouse address. Looking at the clock he noted he had been asleep sometime, he needed to get moving.

Jill rolled his eyes as the skyline of Los Angeles grew closer, Agent Howell and Count D were behaving like children when they weren’t trying to kill each other. Leon was definitely a bad influence on the Count although she suspected most of it was worry in D’s case. “Go straight to the address Detective Freshney.” Howell ordered her, suppressing the urge to hit him she followed the printed directions to the penthouse.

Arriving at the building Leon found the lift was computerised, so much for his idea of blowing the panel and trying to rewire his way up there. “Floor please?” The computer voice asked. “Penthouse.”
“Identity please?”
“Detective Orcot.”
“You are expected. Please wait for the Garden Floor level.” The lift hummed and moved off.

“The person has a pistol and mobile phone Count, do you wish for any assistance?” The man smiled. “No thank you, he is to be my guest.”
“Understood.”

The lift doors opened revealing a lush garden filled with plants and the noise of the wind. “Good day Detective Orcot, so we meet face to face finally. You are a stubborn man.” Leon noticed the slight differences between this D and his, the length of the hair, the way he held himself and the cruelty in his eyes. “Curious how you humans make everything that you hate into a monster, I am sure you think of me as one, monsters are simply your way of hiding your own ignorance.” Leon turned on the man. “Old man, I know what you are, your dear son told me and it didn’t make a difference. I love him because of who he is not what he is. I may well be ignorant but I know enough that your anger can only lead to death be it mine or yours.” The lift doors hissed behind him. “Leon!” The voice of his love lifted Leon’s heart, turning to greet him but he felt something grasp his arm. It was D’s father with a animal that Leon didn’t recognise. “Vesca, you have grown old.”
“Holy crap, how, what?” The agent looked between the two men, Leon rolled his eyes and was surprised when Jill stepped out of the lift from behind them, D’s father smirked. “Ah we shall have fun, I think it is time you saw him die son.”
“Father, it has been 20 years and you are still the same.” D bent his head in sorrow. “You should’ve left the lift.” The door hissed shut trapping Howell and D inside. “Jill, fuck. Run!” Leon yelled.
“You will need to run yourself Detective, remember the law of Eden, kill or be killed.” Leon ran.

D’s father made his way up the stairs towards his pet project. The lift hissed opened. “Ah, you figured it out, good. Do you remember my project Vesca?”
“Dear god, not the virus.” Howell paled. “You’ve finished it?”
“Yes, all of mankind will die.”
“Father! How can you?” D looked startled.
“Do not worry, my son. Humanity is already on a path to self destruction. I am simply helping them along.”
“You’re nuts D, do you think I’ll just stand by and let you destroy the world?” Howell pulled his gun. Before anyone could react Jill and Leon staggered out of the trees, Jill’s grasp slipped and Leon fell to the floor. “D! I think he’s dying!” She cried. D ran over. “Your lover is dead my son.” D’s father laughed, Leon coughed.
“Not quite you son of a bitch. D remember the hotel room?” A tear fell from the Chineseman eyes but he nodded. “Be careful Leon, we do not know the price.”
“I’m dying D, what more can we pay.” Leon pulled the name from his memory. “Matsuri, Matsuri, Matsuri.” The world changed.
