Disclaimer: blah blah blah...Kai is mine, the rest isn\'t...blah blah....making no money...blah.
A/N: These song excerpts are starting to relate more and more to their respective chapters...pretty soon they\'ll be providing blow-by-blow accounts of the events, I suspect...*laughs* Sorry if this has typos, because I just got a new keyboard and it\'s really awkward.

Shards of me,
too sharp to put back together.
Too small to matter,
But big enough to cut me into so many little pieces
If I try to touch her.
-Evanescence, Breathe No More (Anywhere but Home, 2004 [Live CD/DVD])

Why are you trying to make fun of me?
You think it\'s funny?
What the fuck you think it\'s doing to me?
You take your turn lashing out at me
I want you crying with your dirty ass in front of me
-Korn, Thoughtless (Untouchables, 2002)

Zagato stood up abruptly. \"And while you\'re here,\" he said, \"I have something important...very important...to admit. I\'ve been trying to hide it - I thought it would be better, seeing as you have aready discovered some shocking truths recently. But maybe now I can tell you without it hurting too much. There was never a Sol Zagato.\"
\"Wha...?!\" Umi gasped, \"That\'s impossible! You\'re standing right here!\"
\"I am,\" he said, \"But Zagato is not. He was just another thing you visualized during your dreamlike state. My name is Rannock Lightbringer, and I\'m barely eighteen years old. Zagato was like a figment of my imagination as well. He was what I disguised myself as - I had to try to look threatening in order to stay alive. You see, the truth about Cephiro is that magic is forbidden here, and I happen to be rather good with it.\"
Umi was speechless.
\"And so,\" Rannock continued, \"My alter-ego wedged his way into your imagination for a clear reason - our destinies are intertwined. I have known this ever since I decided to bring you here so that you might save this land. No one else could find the courage to do it, what with their fear of witchcraft, and so I know I was meant to.\"
\"And how...\" Umi stuttered, \"How would that effect whether your alter-ego was in my dreams or not?\"
\"It\'s as I said before,\" Rannock sighed, \"Destiny has its ways. We as mortals cannot know these things. And so...there you have it. I\'ve been lying to you, and now you know it. If you can still like me for who I am, I would be greatly honored. If you can\'t...then so be it.\"
\"Of course I can,\" Umi said quietly, \"Why wouldn\'t I? I\'m that kind of person...\"
\"Thank you,\" Rannock said, \"Thank you.\"
~*~
After Umi left, Rannock knew what was coming. Avretta, again. \"Show yourself,\" Rannock commanded, \"I\'m not afraid of you. Fucking whore.\"
Seemingly out of thin air appeared a woman. She was clad in a tight, dark-red leather body suit. Her hair was as orange as the setting sun, and her red eyes seemed to blaze with the fury of none other than fire itself. She wore red boots, and was tall, thin, and pale.
\"As the leader of FireClan,\" she hissed, \"I have asked my council continuously never to cease from planning destruction. But it\'s not too late for another member to join in. I\'ve told you too many times before, and this is the last. Rejoin me. Together we can rule this world and the next.\"
Rannock shook his head instantly. \"I would never rejoin the sluttiest of bitch queens. You think I ever loved you? You were wrong. I was a young fool who would get together with even the greatest of skanks for the hell of it. I\'m different now.\"
\"No,\" Avretta laughed, \"Now you prefer little girls with water magic.\"
\"It isn\'t like that!\" Rannock said through gritted teeth, \"Get out before you regret this.\"
\"Yeah, yeah, yeah,\" Avretta said lazily, \"Heard it all before. Fine. But you\'ve made the wrong choice. Go screw yourself. No, as an afterthought, go screw that little kid. But not before a parting gift...\"
Avretta\'s eyes glowed redder than they had ever been before, and Rannock felt himself and his very senses being enveloped by heat and flames. Suddenly, he felt a terrible sensation, as if he were on fire, and was sent flying into the wall. Then Avretta was gone, and everything went black.
