Chapter Six
Integra felt his strong hands cup her scalp a moment before a cold wind whipped through the austere office. Integra fought the moment of panic that rose within her as she slipped into the darkness with him.
Alucard held her gently as he let himself wander through her mind, tempted as he was to leave a bit of himself behind, he refrained. Even undead men had some scruples if they were worth the powder to blow them to hell.
Integra's gaze snapped at the image before her. She stood in the relative shelter of the shadows, her back pressed against Alucard's chest. She heard with his keen ears, the muffled commands of Montgomery. He ordered his men to rush in. Ferguson questioned the order, but Montgomery would hear none of it.
Through the red haze of his eyes, Integra saw the ghouls and freaks move through the shadows along the walls above her. Circling around her forces with precision. They had sensed her monster but had been wise enough to give him a wide berth. They had not come to fight him…yet.
"You took no action" she commented. Alucard wrapped his long arm around her waist, drawing her to the top of the wall.
"I merely waited to see his plan" Alucard assured her.
Below them, her captain was locked away in the command vehicle, his voice calling out orders over the radio. She could see her men, backs open as they pushed forward.
Then the enemy struck. Out of the dark from an area that their command sould have made damn certain was clear. The creatures lashed at her men, shouts and screams filling the air. Integra took a deep breath and could taste the pungent blood that covered the ground. It was at that moment that Alucard stepped from the shadows, a muttered curse on his lips.
The resounding crack of his weapon screaming across the darkness as he dispatched the beasts with measured efficiency. When the last ghoul had fallen, the last freak reduced to dust, he had seen to the men. Those bitten, he shot. Quickly, cleanly, but still Integra's stomach rebelled.
She turned her face from the sight and Alucard, lifted his arm, blocking out the scene before her. Once again they moved and she found herself seeing Seras blazing a verbal trail through the young captain. "What in bloody hell were you thinking?" she demanded, "That was not supposed to happen! Look at how many men have fallen here tonight!"
Montgomery stalked towards her, a menacing look on his face. "You know Victoria, you should be more careful who you talk to like that. After all the Hellsing organization is around to get rid of creatures like you. I’m your better and you should respect that."
Alucard was about to make himself known, when Seras spoke in a deep growl, "And you are in my food chain, you should respect that" then she spun and stomped away. Alucard was most pleased with her barb. His chuckle resonating through Integra.
She sighed, well it certainly did appear that he had acted out of procedure and that would be dealt with. "I'm ready Alucard" she said, "I've seen enough".
The vampire buried his face against the pale fall of her hair, his nose brushed her cheek, "So you are assured his guilt?"
Integra stiffened in his arms, her stomach tightening, "I am assured of his mistake and his mishandling. I cannot say that he was deliberate or malicious, but I will have him transferred back to the SAS. If for no other reason that his views on you and Seras"
She was nothing if not fair he mused. He swept her hair aside, exposing her throat to him. She was still, "Alucard I have seen what I need, return us now." she ordered softly. She worried not about him but her own actions. Her vampire was far too beautiful to ignore and when he was close she was weak.
He knew that, caught the scent of her desire. Heard her blood surge, her heart quicken. He brushed his lips in a soft, almost innocent caress from her shoulder to her temple. The feelings he elicited were far from innocent and Integra spun to face him. He caught her about the waist, his hands holding her firmly.
"Well this is better" he quipped, his lips hovering just over hers. Integra removed a small dagger from her sleeve pressed the blade against his pale lips as they descended.
He smiled against the steel, "Not silver master," he informed her, "Won't kill me."
Integra tipped her head back to smile at him, "No, I wouldn't do that, but I will hurt you Alucard, unhand me and obey me at once."
She did just LOVE to spoil his fun.
With a sigh Alucard obliged and released her stepping back as the shadows melted away to reveal her office once more.
He gave her small courtly bow, "How long will you resist me master?" he asked softly.
She gave an inelegant snort, "Until the day I die" she assured him.
He smiled mockingly, "Can you resist yourself so long Integra?" Then he was gone, leaving her with a head full of evidence and insight and a stomach full of butterflies and strange achy longing.
With a sigh, she shuffled her papers, "I hate him" she muttered, but even she heard the hollowness of the words. God help her, she was weakening.
