On the skids
Chapter Six
Amon did come back later, and apologized to Robin for his rather odd behavior, and over the next few days he seemed to be back to normal to some extent, yet something was still there. She just being over worried, she mused to herself, but did not shake the feeling.
It was late one vert hot night, they had gotten a tip on an area where this Orti was around from an informant that the STN had used before. It was a place that few really wanted to venture into, The walled city area.
Robin and Amon searched the area for any signs of the elusive man, and found no help coming from the people there. Even other informants had seemed to have vanished into the confines of this pit of secrets. Through the stifling heat of the dark, they pressed on into the very heart of the walled city.
After hours on end trying to find anything on the witch, they had came up empty. With no more leads to follow, and the other information exhausted, they just headed home.
Arriving at the apartment at just past then thirty, Robin headed straight into the bath, feeling sweaty, dusty and grim ridden after searching the walled city for so long. Amon just used the time to go on to the laptop to do some net searching of his own. He seemed to be obsessed with finding this man.
The steam rose off of the water, as Robin lowered herself in to the bath. She sighed, as her muscles reacted almost immediately by relaxing as the water wrapped around her body. She layed her head back on the tub edge and closed her eyes. The days rigors were finally drifting off into memory, setting her for relaxation. She sighed, and let the pure bliss of the bath carry her off.
She looked down, and saw her extended tummy peeking out of the water like a beach ball someone was holding just under the surface. She gigged in glee, as she knew the him or her in there was growing steadily. She rubbed the taunt skin with the palm of her hand and sighed, closing her eyes again to luxuriate in the water.
A knock at the door of the bathroom made Robin open her eyes.
I have a line on this witch from a search I did online. Said the mans voice. I am going to check on it, and Ill be back soon.
Should I hurry out and go with you? Robin asked, sitting up in the water. It was getting cool in it anyways.
No need. I will just call in Miho, you just take it easy tonight.. He said back through the door. If I need you, Ill make sure to call... your scooter is just downstairs anyways.
Robin let herself fall back in to the water. Even though she did not want to go out again, she felt a sense of duty to offer. She was actually glad to have a bit of time to just lounge and relax, she was feeling tired.
Be careful, Amon. She called back.
I will. He said.
She heard the door open and close to the apartment as the man left. She just drained a little of the water out, and added in some hot water to the tub. She would just laze back for a while longer, then get out just in case her husband called for assistance. She closed her eyes, as the hot water began to sooth her once more.
Once out of the bath, she donned a fresh set of clothes. Her favorite dress was becoming a little tight around the middle, and she giggled at the sight through the fabric. She would have to shop for something bigger very soon, she thought to herself. She finished dressing and headed to the kitchen to get something to eat.
With a sandwich and a tall glass of juice, she took a seat on the sofa. She turned on the television and began to eat, making sure that her communicator was within reach if the man would call.
Soon, twelve had rolled around, and Robin was beginning to worry. She picked up her communicator and hit the button that was set aside for Amon.
Amon? She said, as the mans voice came on. How is it going there?
Miho and myself have found someone that knows this witch. He said, his voice remarkably seeming upbeat. We are checking out a location just outside the walled city, where he is known to go.
Need me to come out to help? She asked.
Its just an exploratory look. He said. The person said that he might not be there right now, but we will have something to go on when we need to. He just seemed to be in a better mood. You go off to sleep. If we need, I will call in everyone right off.
I will then. She said, feeling better now. Her worries for now gone.
She got off of the device and turned off the tv. She felt sleepy anyways, and she knew that baby needed the rest badly. Going to the room, she decided to have the sleep she was needing.
She awoke sometime later, and saw that Amon was not back yet from his search mission. She turned on the light and got her communicator. She hit the button for her husband and waited.
To her surprise, he did not pick it up and she let it go for quite a long time. She cleared it and hit Mihos button.
The lady picked it up on the first beep.
I could not get a hold of Amon. She said, very bluntly. I have tried for awhile, and he is not answering
Miho could here the desperation in the young womans voice.
We have split up here, as two possibilities have came up. Miho said I am searching the hotel district here, as my clue said he meets people here all of the time. Amon is trolling a street of bars not too far off from where I am right now..
Then why is he not picking up? Robin asked, getting a strong feeling of something not being quite right.
Hes probably not wanting it to go off, if he is on the trail. Logically stated the woman.
Robin swung her legs over the edge of the bed, as her mind raced to think of just why else he would not answer.
I have a bad feeling right now. She explained to her friend. Im going to dress and then come out there. I will meet you.
Cant hurt to have another set of eyes out here. The lady said, adding. Here is where I am.
Robin got the location and then hurried to dress herself. In no time, she was on her scooter and heading to the more seedier side of Tokyo, hoping that her feelings were wrong.
She met Miho just outside of a hotel called the Black Rose, on a corner that bordered on the street full of row bars. They entered the street, which was surprisingly alive with people.
So many after hour clubs here. Snuffed Miho, looking at the large collection of people on the street.
Do you know any of the clubs he was searching? Robin asked.
Not really, he just said he had a list of them to go on. Informed the brown haired woman.
The two just started walking, going into each still open establishment one at a time., while Robin called him periodically, but getting no response to her communicator calls.
The two ladies came upon a car, parked in a back alley beside a very sleazy looking bar on the streets farthest edge. The licence plate made it clear that it was Amons car that was there. The doors were locked, and no sign of the man was evident. They entered the bar building, to see if the man was still there.
People were still in the bar even at this late hour. The patrons seemed to be the citys underbelly people, ones that skirted on the fringes of society, ones who were snubbed by the people of daylight.
There was no sign of the man in there. The room was not full by any means, and there was not even a clue to where Amon had gone. Miho noticed a person , and hurried over to the balding man, as Robin followed closely, a little nervous of being left alone in a establishment like this was.
Miho inquired on the whereabouts of Amon with the man, who it seemed the hunter woman was acquainted with.
I saw him earlier... The man said in a low tone, trying to be inconspicuous. He asked about some dud I knew from the street. I knew him, but did not know where he was, that is what I told Amon.
Do you know where he went after? Miho pushed.
Cant tell you...he just payed me a little and left.
When was that?
About a hour or so ago... Thought the man, grinning through his blackened teeth. Maybe longer... I am drunk you know.
Robin and Miho thanked the man and hurried out of the bar, feeling like everyone was staring at them with seedy intents. Both were glad to get out of there so quickly.
Once outside, they noticed something to their horror. Amons car was gone. Robin tried the man on the communicator again, while Miho stayed right beside her. Once again, the man was not picking up. A wave of dread hit her from inside.
Robin shuttered, as the call was not being answered.
I an getting worried.: She said, looking at the hunter woman.
Lets get our vehicles and head into the office, Michael might know where he is. Suggested Miho.
Not knowing what else to do, she agreed and the two hurried to exit bar row and to head to the offices. Robin was worried, and her stomach was hurting. For the sake of the life inside her, she tried to stay calm, but the facts were clear.
Robins husband was missing.
