The breeding experiments were halted in spite of objections from Gendo and his superiors. There would be no new generation of hybrid clones. The Eva back up system would have to make due with the current generation. There were still sufficient numbers in the tanks.

Shinji and Maya spent several days in the hospital unit, during that time hypnotic therapy was applied to repress any memories of the experiment. Maya’s cuts (mostly superficial), the results of ‘a fall through a burst lab tank’, were treated. She bore some scars permanently, NERV medical did not cover cosmetic surgery. Especially when it was ruled, they were the results of her own negligence. She was told that it was only Doctor Akagi’s influence that allowed her to retain her rank and position at NERV. Although her memory of the incident was hazy, she vowed to herself to live up to the trust the Doctor had shown in her.

As long as Shinji and Maya currently had no memories of the incident, they would not have to be destroyed. Periodic hypnotic adjustment continued to be applied resulting in increased anxiety, nightmares and sexual dysfunction. Since it did not materially affect their on-duty performance…

Doctor Ritsuko Akagi took a two-week emergency leave of absence for personal reasons. She texted her best friend Misato Katsuragi that it was actually NERV business, so not to question it. The Captain immediately understood.
During the two-week absence, the Doctor had her tubes tied to prevent another possible pregnancy.

Shinji noticed a certain coldness, a reluctance by Ritsuko to be in the same room with him. But that was nothing unusual in his life. He assumed that every hated him anyway.
For the Doctor, it was back to work. Business as usual.
