Chapter Six:


\"Sir, I still say there\'s something wrong with the other American pilot... I can\'t place it though... But I know there\'s something...\" She stood only to waver. Fuyutsuki caught her before she fell.

Soon a video was playing, and a male voice speaking English cut in, which was translated into Japanese for them. \"Okay, this is Supervisor Ackerson...beginning test run of S^2 Generator and Dummy Plug equipped Evangelion Unit Four...ready...and testing interfaces...\" A shot of the Command Consoles was shown, displaying the start up of the EVA. \"All Systems Go....Beginning test...NOW.\"

\"Take it easy. Sir, maybe we should get one of the doctors to look her over as well.\"

Ikari nodded. \"Very well...make it so, Fuyutsuki.\"

Kaji grabbed the phone, and answered. \"Hello? Oh really? That\'s wonderful news...Arigatou..\"

\"I\'ll walk there.... If you can help me.\"

\"Hey, before you go... could you watch them for the night? I\'m going to stay here with Rei and Jack.\"

Asuka looked up.

Suddenly alarms went off on the video. \"What the Hell?! The EVA....it...it...it\'s a BESERKER!\" Aoba flinched at hearing those words.

Ibuki trembled slightly. \"Like Shinji\'s....\"

Kaji nodded. \"Sure, no problem, Misato. I\'d be happy to...have fun..\" He looked down at Asuka, smiling. \"They\'re fine..\"

She nodded.

Then the camera cut to the platinum armored EVA-04, roaring like a beast from Hell. There was no power cord running to it, meaning that the S^2 was working perfectly. \"Oh...God...We...we\'re...\" Then a new voice cut in.

\"ACKERSON!! YOU DUMB FUCK!!\" It was younger, and more familiar. There was a sudden beeping, and one of the techs screamed about an EVA launch.

Aoba blinked in surprise. \"Hey...that voice...that\'s...that\'s the Sixth Child!\"

Fuyutsuki looked at Ikari to see if he wanted her to leave yet.

Gendo nodded. \"Help her there, Fuyutsuki. I\'m going to review the data..\"

Ibuki nodded. \"I wonder if Ikari knows this yet?\"

He nodded, holding his arm out to help the small girl. She stood, letting him help support her as she stayed near the wall. \"Commander... When I can remember what it is about the Sixth child I will tell you...\"

Suddenly there was a loud slamming noise, and a large liftcage pooped into view. It slid open and back, revealing the black form of EVA-03. Identical in almost every aspect to the rampaging monster, except for the inversion of color, and the power umbilical...plus the assault rifle in its hands. \"WHEN I GET THROUGH WITH THIS, I\'M GOING TO SEE THAT YOU GET CANNED!!\" Jack\'s voice screamed loudly as the black unit opened fire on the Beserker.

Ikari nodded. \"Very well. I look forward to that.\"

The two left the office, Alexia leaning heavily on him. \"He... he drew a gun on me...\"

Aoba blinked, then froze the video. He squinted, then his eyes went wide, and he gasped. \"Ibuki...look at the power cord..\"

\"It\'s cut...\"

Aoba nodded. \"That means he\'s on Reserve...but the video\'s not showing it...meaning...\"

\"It wasn\'t connected to begin with...\"

Aoba nodded. \"It also means...that the pilot didn\'t know...\"

She nodded. \"We have to tell Misato and Ritsuko.\"

\"Yea...\" At some compelling urge, Aoba tapped the unfreeze button, letting the video play.

Ibuki watched as well, her coffee forgotten.

The sounds of explosions could be heard, then the dry click of a rifle running dry. Almost screaming, the EVA-03 ran forward, ramming the now-useless gun into the chest of the EVA-04, breaking through the segmented plates, and sending out a geyser of blood. Jack\'s panting could be heard, then a startled gasp as the umbilical fell loose, and the timer activated.....at 2:00:01.

Ibuki watched spellbound.

Kaji peered in the kitchen at Shinji. \"How\'s the dinner coming?\" he asked, leaning against the doorjamb.

Alexia leaned against the elevator wall as it started down.

\"ACKERSON!!\" the scream came, at the same time the Beserker grabbed 03\'s left arm, and started twisting. The sounds of breaking bones could be heard, then an agonized scream from Jack as the arm was ripped off from the socket, blood bursting from it, a shoulder bone stump visible.

\"Turn it off...\" Ibuki whimpered, remembering Shinji\'s experience.

Shinji looked over from the mess of pots as he checked the ramen, and sighed. \"It\'s coming...\" he shrugged, and Kaji nodded, heading back to the living room.

Instead, Aoba found that the system had locked up. \"What the Hell?!\"

Asuka bit ber lip.

There was more screaming, then EVA-03 shut down...completely at the mercy of a Beserker with the unlimited power of an Angel.

Fuyutsuki looked at the girl. \"You okay?\"

Kaji plopped down on a seat, and sighed. ll, ll, dinner will be..whenever Shinji finishes, I guess.\"

She nodded slightly. \"Tired... sore...\" she glanced up. Scared too. Is Ikari mad at me?\"

The platinum monster started up again, grabbing the slumped EVA by the head, and throwing it into a w sma smashing it into a series of mock-buildings. Jack\'s cursing and screams could still be heard from inside it, as well as the sounds of him furiously jamming the controls.

He shook his head. \"He\'s worried. He had some bad experiences... It\'s okay, we\'ll get you into your apartment soon. How\'s that sound?\" She nodded.

Aoba made a sick face. \"God...how did he survive...\"

\"Will I be near the others? They kept me away from everyone at the last place... I don\'t like it... I don\'t like the silence of being alone....\" She sank to the floor pulling into a ball.

Ibuki looked like she was about to get sick.

Then, as the Beserker was about to crush the slack unit\'s head, the supervisor was screaming again. \"OH GOD!! THE EVA-03!! IT\'S...IT\'S!!\"

Ibuki pulled away from the console, heading into the breakroom before losing it.

The eyes of the black EVA, which had gone blank, had suddenly burst with red light, and its head started jerking madly, along with the rest of it. The Beserker backed away, almost in fear.

Aoba stared. \"Holy...shit...TWO Beserkers...at the same time....HYUGA! Are you still there?! IBUKI!! You\'re not gonna believe this!\"

The door opened on their floor. Fuyutsuki gently helped the girl to her feet. /Misato will have to know that she\'s there. Commander Ikari might not like it, but the girl needs people around her. If she was part of the problem today, it may have been because those two picked up on her feelings somehow.../

\"I\'m watching. Fuck...\" Hyuga said amazed. Ibuki was hunched over the garbage can.
zeromutoh: The black EVA\'s mouth slammed open, revealing rows of red metal teeth. It slammed its remaining fist into the other Beserker, and went for its destroyed arm. It held it in place, and suddenly it was reattaching, the bone snapping back into place. It roared, then it made a sound that chilled Aoba to his core.

It LAUGHED.

Alexia felt someone taking her from the \'safety\' she felt in the older man\'s arms and helped into a wheelchair before she collapsed.

Ibuki covered her ears.

\"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!\" burst from the dark head, the sound a twisted, demonic mockery of a human laugh. It slowly moved towards the other Beserker, which lunged for it again. The Black EVA caught it in a headlock, and did something else it should never have.

\"YOU...UGLY.....FUCKER!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!\" came from the EVA-03\'s mouth, its jaw moving with each syllable, a demonic, evil voice...but there was an echo, a familiar echo....

Misato looked at the girl they rolled past her. \"Misato. Ikari won\'t like you knowing about her...\"

Fuyutsuki\'s voice caught her attention.

Aoba paled considerably, his own stomach beginning to get upset. \"Oh..shit...it can\'t be.....it can\'t...Hyuga...do..do you he-hear that...\"

\"Who is she?\" Misato asked.

Hyoga nodded. \"We have to tell Misato now.\"

\"She\'s one of the other children. American, like Jack.\" Fuyutsuki handed her a file. \"Don\'t let the others see that. She\'s going to be roomed on the same level as you, two doors over, it was the closest that I could find for her while still keeping her separated from the others. We think she has something to do with what happened today.\"

Misato watched as Alexia flinched slightly, as if reacting to something. She wrapped her arms around herself moaning in pain.

It was Jack\'s voice, coming from the dark monster. It dug its fingers into the head of the other, crushing armor and bone in a bloody spray, before letting it go, and slamming one foot into it, sending it flying across the false city, slamming home into one of the larger ones. The move was identical to what the Beserker EVA-01 did to the Third Angel. The dark EVA walked forward, still laughing. Suddenly there was a squeal of feedback, and Ackerson could be heard, his voice somehow calm as a pool of water. \"I..I\'ve armed....the nuke....if.if we can\'t stop this...then God help us all...\" Then EVA-03 began smashing its dark foot into the platinum Beserker, killing it violently. Then it laughed again, and roared, before its eyes went white, and it looked down, shocked. \"Wh..what the fuck....\" Jack\'s voice could be heard, coming through the speakers again as the EVA\'s mouth slammed shut. Then it shut down, and the Unit toppled to the ground, the pilot passed out stone-cold. There were a few more words, then the video cut off.

\"Oh God, what\'s been done to her?\" Misato asked seeing the scared look on her face.

\"She was the pilot of the Eva that disappeared.\"

Aoba tapped a key, and hit the intercom. \"Mi-Misato...\" he said weakly. \"Th-there\'s been a complication...\"

Misato heard Aoba and went to the phone, seeing Fuyutsuki staying with the girl. \"Go ahead.\"

\"I...I think you should turn on..the nearest monitor...I\'m go-going to show you something that means bad news..\"

\"Okay... hm.... Look up anything on the other American Pilot... for some reason she\'s here as well... hm... send that information to my home computer.\"

\"Got it...listen, do you have the monitor on? This can\'t wait...it\'s...it\'s a possible Angel.\"

\"Yes it\'s on.\"

Aoba tapped the keys, speeding through the video, and stopping at the laughter coming from the black EVA, then the clearly human voice coming not from any sound system inside, but from its actual mouth. Then to the bloody mess, and the collapse.

Alexia was placed across the room from the two who were resting now. The doctor checking on her noticed that her actions were a few seconds after the other two.

Misato watched. \"Send this to Ikari.\"

\"Already done,\" he tapped the key, sending it to Gendo\'s office. Then the Commander spoke.

\"What\'s the point of showing me this?\" his voice came clearly over the intercom, as cool as ever.

\"Sir, notice the umbilical cord when it starts...\" Misato said quickly.

\"I\'ve seen this before...I\'m the one who priority locked the files..\"

Alexia screamed out shaking her head as if fighting something.

\"Why didn\'t you let the rest of us know? And what about the girl who was with Fuyutsuki?\"

\"Because it was determined that the voice was cause by a unique mental disturbance in the boy\'s mind...other than that, does it seem any different from what Shinji has done? And as for the girl, she is a LAST RESORT.\"

\"Is it true she was at the other American institution?\" She asked, true concern filling her voice as the girl\'s scream echoed in the hall.

\"Yes, it is. However, there are lapses in the records...all of which were handled by Supervisor Ackerson...the man responsible for the debacle you\'ve all managed to see.\"

\"Fine, I\'ll take the girl in at my apartment as well. There\'s enough room. Seems like she\'ll need some care until she can calm down.\"

\"Very well....as long as there are no further incidents..if there are, then, as it is, as is so eloquently put by the Americans, \'your ass in a sling.\'\"

Alexia fought against the doctors trying to pin her down as she thrashed against the bed. \"No.... Let go....\"

\"Fine.\" She looked at Fuyutsuki. \"Could you have her belongings sent to my apartment?\"

Suddenly, both Rei and Jack start spasming violently, ripping free of the electrodes and other wires and tubing. A shrill beeping filled the air.

\"Shit, you two, deal with the two pilots.\"

Then two pairs of eyes snapped open at the same time as two bodies sat up...then one fell back.

Alexia whimpered as they spasmed.

Rei looked around calmly, blinking her red eyes in confusion. \"what...happened?\" Jack was still awake, but panting furiously.

Alexia fell still against the bed. The two nurses managed to get her wrists bound down to prevent her from hurting herself.

Misato ran into the room. \"Rei, rei, you okay?\"

The albino girl blinked. \"why would i be otherwise? where am i?\"

\"We had you and Jack brought to the infirmary when you both blacked out.\"

\"we...blacked out?\" she blinked, looking over to see Jack, his eyes closed halfway, his hair still down. She knew something about his was familiar, but she probably wouldn\'t figure it out this soon. She looked back to Misato, and blinked. \"i...could hear something...laughing...what was laughing?\"

Fuyui wai walked over to the bed holding Alexia. \"Get these bindings off her, she\'s just scared.\" He ordered. Alexia curled up in a small ball shivering when she was released. She turned to him crying.

\"Laughing? We didn\'t hear any..\"

Rei blinked. \"i could...hear it...pounding..in my head...it hurt.\" She looked around, then fell back against the bed. \"but..it\'s gone...now.\"

\"I hear yelling.... beings begging to be freed...\" Alexia whimpered holding her head. \"Loud...\" She stayed on the bed shivering.

Jack was silent, his eyes dull. \"I..heard...a voice....and a name...\"

The doctors had seemed to calm Jack down.

\"...darkness..... feelings muted....\" Alexia continued softly.

Rei looked almost child-like, the blankets held close to her thin form. \"i...when will we be released?\"

\"We\'d like to keep them overnight for observation, since all three seem to be conscious.\"

Rei nodded, and held the blankets tighter, shivering. Jack spoke once more. \"I feel…weird..\"

\"...Cold....\" Alexia had also pulled her blankets up around herself.

Misato nodded. \"We\'ll be right back okay?\" She grabbed Fuyutsuki\'s arm pulling him into the hall. The doctors left as well to check on a few other things.

Jack stared up at the roof blankly, while Rei shivered to herself, uncontrollably.

Alexia moved from her bed going to Rei\'s side. \"You... you\'re the one that I heard while in Ikari\'s office....\"

The pale girl looke at at her. \"nani?\" was all she said, still blank.

\"I... You were screaming for help...\" She said softly, then looked over at Jack. \"You are not the other pilot though.... I...\" She moaned shaking her head. Something seemed to be blocking her thoughts again. She sank into a chair rubbing her temples.

Jack blinked. \"I\'ve...always been the pilot...at least...that\'s all I can remember being...the rest is a blur now...\" He closed his eyes. \"My head...is killing me...\"

\"It\'s cold in here....\" Alexia was shivering as much as Rei was. It was clear that the last pilot was close to losing it completely.

\"Why..is it...always me?\" Jack asked, managing to roll out of bed and drag the blankets with him. He stood shakily, and managed to put the blankets over them before hitting the floor again, near-dead.

Alexia hissed at Jack\'s touch. She slumped in the chair more blacking out again.

He lay there, breathing slowly. He opened and closed his hand, and suddenly, Rei did the same, blinking at the odd synchronous actions.

Misato entered the room again while Fuyutsuki went to gather Alexia\'s things to be moved.

\"What happened?\" She asked kneeling by Jack.

\"Meh heh...I\'ve...fallen and...I can\'t get...up..\" Jack snorted. \"They..were cold...so I tried...to help...silly me.\"

She helped him up. \"Here, let me get you back up in bed.\"

\"Blah...that\'s okay...I like the floor..\" His voice was still sarcastic, but weak. \"Sorry, if I\'m...such a pain...\"

Misato helped him back to bed. She checked on the brown haired girl. /Good she\'s still alive, she looks so tired though... What has Ikari done to her../ \"Rei? How are you feeling?\"

\"i feel...like the last time...there was an accident...\" she said softly. \"only..more cold...\" She held the extra blankets tight, and snuggled against them.

\"I\'m so sorry Rei...\" Misato moved the other girl back to the bed across the room. \"Would you like me to call Ikari here?\"

Rei blinked curiously. \"i do not..think he wants...to see me...\" There was a small tear in her eye, but then the moment passed, when Jack made a coughing sound, and was coughing up blood.

Misato hit the call button for the doctors. They entered as Alexia coughed a little.

Jack spat out more blood, then grimaced. \"Damned...painkillers...I shouldn\'t\'ve...taken so many..before the test...\" he said, still hacking up blood. \"I\'m bleeding out..\"

\"How many did you take?\" One of the doctors asked worried.

\"Three...\" he spat, the pool of blood slowly spreading out over the floor. \"Call me..stupid..but for some reason...normal doses..don\'t work on me..\"

Asuka yawned slightly. She was determined to stay up until Misato got home.

\"We\'ll have to take him to surgery stat...\"

Kaji was sound asleep in his chair, and Shinji was dead to the world, his small headphones still on. He rolled over in his sleep, snoring lightly.

She curled up on the couch, trying to read her magazine again.

Jack coughed more, and fell forward, slowly slipping to the floor. \"Damn...it hurts...\"

He was helped into a wheelchair.

\"Don\'t worry....I\'ll be fine...\" he coughed, blood no longer coming up.

Alexia\'s breathing slowed as well as her shivering. Her chest started hurting her. She moaned weakly.

Rei watched for a moment, then fell asleep in the mass of blankets.
