The Raw and the Cooked

Disclaimer : That\'s it.

To pick up from the last chapter, Tohru had just had an interesting encounter with Akito in the woods. Yuki happened upon the two and, surprisingly, convinced Akito to leave. Tohru, however, had a strange reaction to her experience with Akito. Yuki eventually managed to carry Tohru home. Hatori was summoned and anounced that there was nothing, physically, wrong with Tohru. By that time Tohru was once again walking and talking. If something seemed a little different, nobody said anything. Sometimes ignoring things will make them go away. Sometimes though, it won\'t.

One of the funny things about the Sohma house was that nobody said anything. Yuki was paler than usual and kept shooting Tohru worried glances. Tohru was her usual oblivious self. Although perhaps she seemed dreamier than usual, particularly next to open windows. Kyou noticed that Tohru was a bit spacier than usual and worried about her. He noticed that Yuki seemed a bit off and picked more fights with him. When Kyou wasn\'t following Tohru around, closing windows behind her, that is. It was impossible to tell if Shigure knew anything. Regardless, nobody said anything.

The blossoms of spring fell, rapidly overgrown by the overpowering green of summer.

It was getting cold, the sun had set an hour ago and the heat fled quickly in the dry air.

Momiji got up and set more logs on the fire, prodding them until it blazed merrily. Kisa was curled up on an over-stuffed velvet couch with gilt legs, staring raptly at the illuminated pages and illustrations of Momiji\'s book.

This was an odd room, a traditional European study in a traditional Japanese house. Momiji didn\'t know who had built it, or why, but he loved it.

“How long did they stay like that with the witch?” Kisa asked, cuddling up next to him as he sat back down.

He let his fingers run through her soft silky hair, like a tiger\'s fur, and resumed his storyteller\'s voice:

“A long time. Seasons passed. The witch was very picky about her food. It had to be prepared properly. And anything done properly takes time.”

“I wonder what it was like, living in that house, knowing what would happen. Kisa\'s tawny eyes held a thoughtful look.

“The story doesn\'t talk about that” Momiji said softly. His voice was cool, like a hand stroking a rabbit pelt, devoid of living warmth.

“Some things, people don\'t talk about.” they shared chill glances, then shivered and looked apart.

“What does it say then? What comes next?”

“Baking” Momiji stared at the warm red flames now licking up the wood as heat gradually seeped through the room.

A/N: Oh my, lots and lots of people have reviewed since I last updated. I am such a happy happy author! I\'ve uploaded several chapters at once, school is finally over and I can concentrate on finishing these maddening, dangling fanfics. For anyone who is confused by any elements in my story (which seems to be the most common reaction), just let me know and I\'ll be happy to explain anything.

Malicious Lo: Eeek! Love! Yes, I have a thing for Akito too. So pairing opposites like Tohru and Akito together, then having them corrupt each other seems like a natural thing. Please let me know what you think of the Akito and Tohru interactions in these next few chapters. Thanks for the compliment on characterizations--it\'s always difficult to know if you\'re getting them right.

Ever Rin: Thank you, I\'m sensitive about my writing style, so it\'s nice to get compliments. I\'m actually a huge Inuyasha fan as well. I wrote an IY fanfic waaaaaaaaay back when I was in high school and only the third or fourth volume was out domestically. It\'s posted on fanfiction.net although I should probably take it down. It was, ah, not one of my better works (or even good).

Kudari: Yay! People are commenting more on the story now, and not on my atrocious spelling or grammar. Namely, how the story seems like it might be good, if only the spelling/grammar was decent enough to figure out what on earth is going on >.< (Of course, I may have just frightened all of *those* people away). Heh, sorry, tangent. Thanks so much for your encouragement! As far as Tohru goes, hopefully the next few chapters will be illuminating.

Friendly Reviewer: Hah, I love your name. It puts me at ease ^^\'. Yes, I do like this pairing as well. Once I finish this, I\'m certainly considering the possibility of writing more of this pairing. Although I have to say that lately, I keep on feeling like writing a horror one-shot with Hana-chan. I just can\'t seem to get it out of my head o_0. So that may come first.

Foxsan: Well, Akito didn\'t really do much physically to Tohru, now did he? Of course, if one thinks about Tohru\'s dreams, hypnosis, the possibility of Akito having certain powers or abilities . . . then maybe he did do something.

DarkRose16: As much as I lust after reviews, I have to agree that waiting until this is finished would probably be the most satisfying way of reading it. I\'ll be quite impressed if you can figure out where this is going. Of course, after these next few updates, that should be a little more clear.

Musashi: Thanks for the praise ^_^. Well, this update is hardly soon. But at least there\'s a lot of it, right?

Allie: I\'m glad that you didn\'t stop reading. I know how frustrating it is to wait for authors to finish their stories, which is one of my main motivations for finishing this one.
