Of Her Nature IV

Thea looked down the hall toward the playroom, but turned and headed toward the infirmary instead.

She slowly opened the infirmary door and slipped in. She dodged Cassie’s careful gaze by hiding behind tables, chairs and equipment. She quietly slipped next to the curtain that contained Hakkai and Tasha.

Tasha looked at the white sheet covering Hakkai. She could see a few specks of blood coming through the sheet. Although she wasn’t a master healer she knew that he needed tending, too. She pulled the sheet back and saw his slim frame and delicate lines. Don’t you eat?

His skin reflected the light as he slowly breathed. She saw his lean muscles. Muscles that were formed and toned by natural movements, not by heavy lifting. She looked at his face. His dark hair was resting over to the side. His face hid all traces of the pain he had to be feeling. His headband had been removed and she could see the worry lines on his forehead.

She saw his old scar below the bandages and gently touched it. His stomach quivered under her fingers. She looked at his face; he was still out. His skin seemed to remember the horror even when he didn’t. She located the place where the blood was seeping and used her chi to thoroughly close the wound. She took the bandages from the shelf and wrapped new bandages over the blood soaked ones. She sighed and brushed her fingers across his face.

His eyes slowly fluttered open. He saw her and smiled. “What a lovely vision to wake up to.” The words barely left his lips.

She looked at him and smiled. “You shouldn’t be talking. You shouldn’t be awake.”

“Oh…..well…..then, I’ll go back to sleep.” He started to close his eyes. He closed them halfway, and waited for her to stop him. He slowly tilted his eyes up and looked at her. Well? Are you going to play along or what?

She looked at him and giggled. “Oh, no, you don’t.” She laughed, “I had to make sure you didn’t really want to go back to sleep.”

He smiled weakly at her. “When you have that much chi pumped into you, strange things can happen.”

Tasha nodded. “You know, if you just wanted to talk, you didn’t have to go through this production.”

He slowly lifted a hand to touch her face. “Now, why would I want to talk?”

Tasha was bending over to kiss him when she felt a small hand on her leg. She lifted one eyebrow and Hakkai smiled at their interrupted kiss.

Thea tugged at Tasha’s pant leg. Tasha turned and picked up Thea.

Thea looked at Hakkai.

Hakkai looked at the mismatched eyes and smiled.

“Oh good! You’re awake!” Thea crawled out of Tasha’s arms and into the bed next to Hakkai. Hakkai slowly put a hand on her legs. Thea looked at him with sadness in her eyes, “I’m sorrwy I didn’t pwrotect you.”

Hakkai thought about what it felt like to hear those words instead of say them. He closed his eyes to suppress the tears. He patted his hand on her leg. He opened his eyes and looked into hers. “It wasn’t your fault.” It was a lot harder to suppress the tears this time. The hole in his chest wasn’t caused by any spear.

Hakuryuu cooed and curled up by Hakkai’s shoulder. She nuzzled his cheek and rested her head gently on his shoulder.

[Zoom in on Hakuryuu and Hakkai fade to black roll credits.]

I did, however, create The Moon Order and Jorja. I did originate the family ties between her and Homura. For all I know Homura is an only child, so please forgive me if this diverts too far from the original story line. I also played with why Hakuryuu hangs with Hakkai ---this is NOT a spoiler as far as I know. I just really like the twist. I hope I stuck to the spirit of Saiyuki and made the characters grow just a bit, while staying with their original intent. I tried so hard to get some smut in this one ---dang it! I do hope you enjoyed reading it. I wrote it before the 10^th ADV DVD release and after reading the second TokyoPop manga. For those of you that wonder, I am female and Hakkai is my favorite character….which explains why I put him through so much.

Endnotes: This one was by far the most difficult for me to write and I don‘t know why. Gojyo’s behavior really surprised me in this one. It seems as if Hakkai and Gojyo have traded places (kinda- sorta), which might actually be good for them. I really want Hakkai to hook up with a super kinky chick, but he won’t allow it. I have no idea why Gojyo is leaning toward bi-sexual and Hakkai is becoming a homophobe. Hmm, sounds like the makings of a PWP. Giggle

I wanted Thea to become totally enamored with Sanzo, I thought the juxtaposition of his personality and her personality would be enough to totally push him over the deep end. Alas, he was too pissy and she was too taken with Gojyo. It wasn’t suppose to come out this early that Jorja is Thea’s mother, but Gojyo was so offended and upset he wouldn’t let the issue drop.

I have got to get better control over the characters and stop letting them punch holes in the timeline and plot. *grr snarl*

Editor’s Note (cupnjava‘s hubby): The Thea character is loosely based on a character who was created for a role-playing game (of all things). Cupnjava has written the dialog of Thea so well, that I can hear the little child saying these things (cupnjava also does the voice of the RPG character).

I know that I am not perfect when it comes to editing and probably missed more than a few mistrakes. But, she proofs it, then I proof it, and she proofs again, before you get to read it. Pobody’s nerfect, but we try.
