Chapter Seven
Chapter Seven – The Truth Hurts
Shuichi (POV)
I paid the cab driver and made my way into the library, down into the basement area where you could look at old newspapers. I took a pile of newspapers to the table and sat down.
It didn’t take me long to find what I was looking for. The headline screamed at me in big bold letters.
‘BAD LUCK’S EX-VOCALIST SHUICHI SHINDOU’S SISTER FOUND BRUTALLY MURDERED’
My breathing quickens as I take in the title. Why the fucking hell didn’t anyone tell me? She was my sister for fucks sake. My eyes become cold and determined as I read the article.
Maiko Shindou, age 22, was found brutally murdered in Shiba Park yesterday. Her older brother is Bad luck’s ex-vocalist Shuichi Shindou. The police are investigating her murder. The chief of police only made one comment.
“We know who murdered Miss Shindou. The killer was foolish enough to carve a few words onto her back. We cannot give you the killers name, but we will do all we can to hunt him down.”
I throw the newspaper down and stumble to my feet. Oh Kami-sama. I fist my hands, and close my eyes. I need to think. The police will not tell me what I need to know, but I have a way around that.
Leaving the library, I take out my cell phone and call Alex. After exchanging greetings ect, I tell him what I need and why. He’s shocked, but agrees to do what he can, and send any information to my e-mail account.
After hanging up, I let a cruel smile grace my lips. Alex’s a computer hacker and there isn’t anything he can’t hack into. If the police are right and the killer made a foolish mistake, then hopefully I’ll be able to work it out, or they’ll have his name on their files.
As I walked towards Yuki’s apartment, I got angrier by the minute. How can they all lie to me? And how the fuck didn’t I hear about it? Well, I guess the answer to that is easy. I was always high on something, and I never paid attention to the outside world.
That makes me feel guilty. I can’t stop wondering if I stayed in Japan, would this have happened? I stop outside of Yuki’s apartment and take a few deep breaths. I need to calm down. I’m not going to let on that I know.
I don’t want anyone to get in the way. When I find the fucker who did this, I’m going to kill him the same way he killed my sister, and I’ll make sure I’m not foolish enough to leave any clues.
Before, I would never have thought about killing someone, but this time its personal. He, whoever it is, is going to pay… big time.
I knock on the door, and smile coldly as Yuki opens the door.
“Where have you been? Everyone’s been worried.”
“I’m sorry…I just couldn’t take it, watching the coffin my little sister was in being lowered into the ground. I just had to leave. I’ll call mom and tell her I’m fine.”
He looks at me for a few moments, but I make sure my face isn’t displaying any emotions. He nods his head and makes his way into his study. I call mom to let her know I’m fine and I’m sorry.
She said she understood, and she’s glad I’m all right. Why the hell do they keep asking me if I’m all right?
Going into my room, I smoke a couple of joints and drink some whisky. Then I take my anger out on myself, hacking at my arms and legs. I watch as the blood runs down my limbs.
After cleaning up, I cover myself with bandages and sit back on the bed to continue drinking.
When my cell phone rings, I look at the caller ID and answer it.
“Alex, did you find anything?”
He was silent for a moment, before speaking.
“Yes, I found what you wanted. I’ve sent everything to you’re e-mail account…it’s really bad Shuichi, you’re not going to do anything stupid are you?”
“Alex, it was my sister…what would you do in my position?”
“I’d kill the bastard in the worst way possible… be careful.”
”Thanks Alex, I owe you one.”
After hanging up, I go into the front room, thankful that Yuki’s sat on the couch.
“Yuki, can I borrow your computer to check my e-mails?” I ask.
He nods, and I go into his study and shut the door. Starting up his laptop, I log on and open up the e-mail. I find myself gasping for breath as I look at the first picture obviously taken by the forensics team.
Maiko is tied to a tree naked. She’s kneeling on the ground, and her head is slumped forward. Her wrists and neck have been cut. Tears blur my eyes, but I continue. I click on the second picture. This one is a back shot.
Carved on her back is two words that make’s everything come crashing down upon me. I now know who killed my sister, and he’s going to pay with his life. Before deleting all the information from the computer, I print out the two pictures, folding them up and putting them in my pocket. Then I shut it down, and leave the study.
Leaning against the closed door I shut my eyes, the two words carved on her back flashing through my mind:
‘ASK FOREVER’
I can feel Yuki’s eyes on me, and I can feel my anger growing dangerously. I open my eyes and glare at him.
“How could not tell me?” I shout at him.
His face pales as he realises what I’m talking about. I storm into my room, and take out the fishing knife I bought a while back. It’s not that big, but its wickedly sharp. I know what I need to do.
“Shuichi, what are you going to do?” He asks as he watches me put the knife in my pocket.
“Something I should have done a long time ago.”
I put on my jacket, grab my cell phone and wallet, push passed Yuki and leave his apartment, slamming the door behind me.
