Price of Freedom
*****Chapter Seven (Price of Freedom)*****
Tenpou awoke to the smell of coffee and slowly opened his eyes. When they finally focused enough he noticed Kenren’s stuff was missing, but there was still someone in the room with him. It turned out to be Konzen. The blonde Kami moved into view and put a hand to Tenpou’s forehead to check his fever.
“Well, that’s good news.” Konzen said pulling his hand away. “You’re fever broke. Which means I can go back home.”
“Thank you, Konzen. I appreciate it, but what happened to Kenren?” Tenpou asked standing up.
“He was arrested after getting into a little scuffle with some of Li Toten’s men. He hasn’t returned since.”
“You can’t be serious.”
Tenpou knocked on the office door of Li Toten and was immediately let in. They had been expecting him it would seem. He had cleaned up and changed clothes. He stepped up to Li Toten’s desk and the elder man looked up.
“Ah, Tenpou Gensui. I see you’re feeling better. That’s good to hear.” Li Toten said with a grin.
“Like I have said before, it would be a waste of time for both of us to hide and try to figure out the other’s motives. So straight to the point. Where is Kenren, and what do I have to do to free him?” Tenpou asked stern and straight to the point.
Li Toten smirked deviously. “Now isn’t that a thought? What do you have to do to free your precious lover from his cell? Well now, how about take his place and service me?”
Tenpou swallowed hard and glared at the man standing before him. He should have known this would happen. A long and uncomfortable silence filled the room. Li Toten was most definitely going to wait for Tenpou’s answer.
“If that’s what it takes…” Tenpou finally replied.
“Excellent! Then the exchange will take place right away. You two, go release the Taisho from his cell.” Li Toten said and two guards leapt into action. The elder man turned to Tenpou. “You will be pleased to know he hasn’t been touched apart from minor torture. No one has been allowed to go near him without my authorization, so he is safe.”
“You had better not be lying to me.” Tenpou warned.
Li Toten leaned in and stared into Tenpou’s eyes as if looking for something. “Tell me Gensui, would you kill for him?” He put a hand on Tenpou’s cheek and the younger brunette resisted the urge to smack the rough hand away.
“I don’t see how that is any of your concern.” Tenpou responded, all the while his death glare remained. He didn’t bother to hide his hate for the older man.
“You would, wouldn’t you? I guess that means you truly do love him then. How amusing. You’re in love with another man. That’s why you would willingly sacrifice your own body for his.” Li Toten said pulling his hand back then almost as an afterthought, he slapped the Marshal firmly across his face. His glasses clattered to the ground and a red welting handprint formed on his cheek.
If Tenpou had been Kenren, this man would not have gotten away with that. Even if that caused him more trouble than a simple slap on the face, but Tenpou didn’t retaliate. He merely turned his head back and glared once again.
Li Toten opened his mouth, probably for another verbal insult, but was interrupted by the door opening and Kenren’s angry voice cursing the soldiers out. At least until he spotted Tenpou, then his mind quickly changed gears. He was confused, and relieved at the same time. Tenpou being here and actually having the energy to hold an expression as deadly as that one on his face was a good sign.
“Tenpou?” Kenren asked noticing the welt and glasses across the room. Tenpou’s green eyes rested lovingly on Kenren, making sure the man was fine. He was most definitely unaffected by the few small cuts. Tenpou would have smiled if he hadn’t known Li Toten would use that against him. So he tried to tell Kenren through his eyes that he was glad to see the man in good health.
“You may return to your living quarters and resume your normal duties, Taisho. You’re free to go.” Li Toten explained and looked back at Tenpou.
“What? When did this happen? Tenpou what’s going on?” Kenren asked loudly.
“Kenren Taisho, please follow Li Toten’s advice and leave peacefully. You are free. Now behave yourself and follow Commander Goujun’s orders from now on please.” Tenpou said politely, now unable to look the General in the eyes.
“Tenpou, what the hell—?”
“Did you not hear me clearly General?” Tenpou threatened and Kenren sighed then gave in.
“Yes, Sir!” He gave a snappy salute and walked out with one last look back. His onyx met emerald for a moment and realized something was dreadfully wrong here but left as ordered.
A/N:
And this is where I end it. Yep, that's it. No more. Sorry. No, just kidding. I am debating on this next chapter. I already have it written and well, I dunno... I have no problem reading explicit writing, but for some reason I have trouble writing it. It has nothing to do with not being able to think of ideas. Oh no, not at all. I actually have quite a dirty little mind. It is putting the ideas down that makes me feel odd.
So to conclude my little rant, I am trying to say the next chapter will probably be belated due to me scrutinizing it. I may just rewrite it all together and tone down some of the... kink. >>;
Feedback is always welcome. Tell me how much you liked it or how much you hated it, but please don't go off on a tangent if you didn't like it.
Thank you for reading!
