Chapter 7
Authors notes: Finaly Chapter 7! Yay! *throws confetti* Not overly happy with this as I feel like it's way too short. Once again though I just couldn't figure out how to add more into this and keep it as just "one" scene. It's not very exciting...but I promise those chapters are comming! Here in this one everyone's just sort of...I don't know off. Not really out of character but kind of off. So yeah just wanted to get this up cause I know people are waiting for it. Sorry for the spelling errors. It's late and one can only read a chapter so many times over for errors before their eyes cross.
It was well after midnight when Aya and Yohji returned and it startled Ken to hear a light laugh coming from the kitchen that was not Yohji’s. The two lovers stumbled their way into the living room and a ‘Shhhing’ sound came from one of them. It was so obvious they were trying to be quiet it made Ken almost sick. Not appropriate behavior for assasins but Yohji seemed to have that affect on Aya sometimes. He knew well what had most likely transpired between the two of them. He also highly doubted that Yohji would have just driven around in the rain that long. /Hn…probably got a hotel somewhere or something./ Ken crossed him arms. It was apparent they hadn’t seen him yet. /Just let it go Ken. Think about the mission. Think about Aya-chan./ His body posture though was anything but relaxed and Ken found himself holding his breath just a little waiting for the two to notice him as they entered the living room door.
He slowly stood and flipped on the lamp that stood on the short end table at his side. All sound left the room and both pairs of violet and green eyes caught the shadowy image of ken. Iciness swept between the three of them as Ken dropped the manila envelope onto the coffee table. “We have a mission. I’ll go get Omi.” Quickly he passed between them and up the stairs his steps barely making a sound. Not wanting to cause a scene he figured it best if he left the room as quickly as possible giving Yohji and Aya a little time to recover from their outing. They were certainly going to need it with what he had planned to tell them about Schuldig's letter.
Aya looked to Yohji then down to the package on the table but he didn't pick it up. Remaining silent he instead went to sit down on the couch not commenting on Ken's sudden dissapearance. Crossing his arms and legs it was fairly obvious that he was blockading himself from the emotional disturbance Ken had brought about. Plus they were about to recieve a mission and Aya was all business concerning those affairs. Their happy little outing was pushed far from his mind as the red head settled himself in mentally preparing himself for work, eye's closed in quiet contemplation. It was just something he did...something over the years he'd trained himself to do. When a mission came around nothing else mattered, it was just how he had learned to cope.
Yohji sighed as he picked up the envelope. “Geez you’d think Birman could have waited for us?” He laughed slightly trying to make a joke of it. Aya still remained quiet. It seemed for all the effort Yohji was trying to put in to keep the situation light Aya repelled it and just shrugged. It was then that he thought of Aya-chan, things were going to be rather difficult with her around. That was probably the reason for Aya's sudden and deliberate coolness other than the obvious. "Well maybe just a couple of us can handle this one?" Yohji's slim fingers pulled at the edge of the envelope removing the breifing papers and flipping through them. They no longer recieved visual orders of their missions, after losing Persia it hardly seemed right. However Kritiker was far and wide spread as the young men soon came to find out afterwards. They were simply passed on to a new guiding hand; Birman being kept around for the sole purpose of familiarity.
A heavy silence now hung in the room and it made Yohji itch for another smoke. He really didn't want this whole ordeal with Ken to continue any longer than it had too, yet at the same time he wasn't ready to back down either. It would be helpful if Aya, who in fact happened to be the instigator of the whole mess would actually take part and maybe put in his two cents now and again. Hopeless though that cause actually was Yohji longed for peace in their derranged little household again. For that illusion of normalacy to sweep back over them and they could wake each day not having to fear a knife in the back from the other.
It was only a few moments later that Ken reapeared with Omi, the room was very quiet. Finally Omi spoke, "well, you wanna go ahead and tell us what's going on Yohji," he looked to the tall blonde and smiled then floped down across from Aya leaning his head way back into the cushions. He'd be damned if this continued between his three friends. "What's the mission Yohji?" Bits of dirty blonde hair fell back while the boy looked up to the ceiling.
Ken remained standing but leaned slightly against the wall, he was trying to gear himself up to talk to them about the letter that Aya-chan had recieved. It took him a few moments to realize that Yohji was speaking and that he should probably being paying attention. Nothing too complicated it seemed. A simple job, get in and nab some data take out a couple of the head honchoes and then destroy the building. Wouldn't be too hard to pull off with just three of them...or maybe even two. That way at least one of them could stay here and look after Aya-chan. /Maybe things won't be too bad after all? Sounds like the standard run of the mill mission. Get the baddies./ The last line Yohji spoke completely jerked Ken into the present.
"All of you will be required to attend to this mission." Yohji's voice had gone a little quiet. It was rare that Kritiker was so demanding, usually they were fine if one of them didn't want to deal with a mission. "Hn...seems they've got themselves in a knot. Oh well, do we wanna head out tomorrow night? That should be plenty of time for everyone right?" The tall blonde set the mission papers down on the coffe table looking between his three team mates for responses. "Doesn't seem like it will take too long. Aya-chan should be fine by herself here right?" He reached for the pack of cigarettes his the breast pocket of his shirt but didn't manage to get it lit before the room erupted.
"I don't want her staying by herself." Aya stood, dark amythist eyes narrowing. "Kritker can just can this mission for all I care, I'm not leaving her here." His look suddenly turned cold as his eyes passed over ken. He knew something was going on between the two of them and it made his heart ache in the strangest way. It was almost as if a wash of jealousy had swept over him, blinding him to the level of rational he held in such high esteem. Then agian Aya-chan was one of the only things that could ever push him over the edge anymore.
The red head didn't get another word in before Ken couldn't hold back any longer, "Schwarz is involved!" The brunette's voice was a couple of octaves louder than usual and the entire room fell into a bit of shocked silence. "That's why Aya-chan's here! Schuldig sacked her apartment in Paris." He looked over to Aya whose iciness had suddenly turned to boiling rage. "I only found out this afternoon Aya I swear!" Ken took a step into the middle of the room and faced the volitile red head. "She didn't want you running off and getting yourself killed! She cares about you way too much for that!" Folding his arms defensively across his chest Ken showed a clear sign he wasn't going to back down over this. "Besides...it won't do her any good if you're injured or dead."
Omi dared to speak his voice sounding much braver than he was most likely feeling. "You think this mission may be involved then? Maybe a set up? I wouldn't put it past those bastards. Last time they pretty much had the connections to get into anywhere they wanted. What's stopping them from dropping a few false clues for Kriticker?" He wasn't saying that Kriticker didn't know what they were doing but things happened and Omi had been involved in way too much over the years to not error on the side of caution. It was obvious the yougest Weiss memeber was worried; more so about his team mates at this point then that actual mission though. "We really need to think this through though Aya." He walked up closer to the red head who at this point looked like he was about to explode.
It was taking absolutely every ounce of streangth Aya had not to go charging out that door and on a blind killing spree. He thought they'd been rid of Schwarz; thought that they'd been the only surviors. He chastized himself internally. /Don't you know by now Aya...nothing is ever as it seems./ That lithe body winced slightly feeling Yohji's hand upon his shoulder but Aya didn't move. It was like all the fight had gone out of him and he lowered his gaze as sanity began to take back it's hold. Again that almost magical power Yohji seemed to posses; the power to calm the beast that so often threatened to rip Aya apart. "You're right...Omi, Ken somethings up and we can't just go charging off on a mission and leave my sister here by herself. There's got to be away around this." He was still shaking a little and as Aya's eyes rose up to meet Ken's they narrowed ever so slightly. /So it is true. She trusted to tell him instead of me./
"Alright...Kriticker wants us all on this mission right?" Yohji dropped his hand from Aya's shoulder and picked up the briefing papers again. Somewhere along the way he'd managed to finally light his cigarette and the bluish smoke curled upwards towards the ceiling. "So we have to figure out where we are gonna put her so she'll be safe. If they are involved in this mission then we do what we do best and take them out." The blonde sounded sure of himself but inside there was the smallest trace of doubt. Like the other's he too had thought Schwarz gone...it appeared they were much harder to get rid of however. Inwardly he shuddered thinking of having to deal with that German physchopath again. "We can always store her away in one of my...apartments." He looked a bit guilty as he'd given up most of the leases on his various tryst spots after he and Aya had offically gotten together. It was no surprise though that Aya shot him a rather annoyed look.
"Fine, but I don't like it." Aya began to walk to the stairs he certainly looked like he'd had about all he could take for one evening. "We go in and get out as soon as possible. If Schwarz isn't involved then we come back and figure out how to hunt them down. If they are then I agree with Yohji...lets take them out and I don't give a damn what Kriticker has to say about it." He then turned and walked up the stairs feet padding heavily as he went.
Yohji gave Ken a rather questioning look but didn't say anything more and soon followed in Aya's trail leaving the brunette and Omi left in the basement. "Ken-kun are you alright?" Omi guestioned rather gingerly as it was impossible to read the look on Ken's face at the moment. "We should all try and get some sleep but I know you have a lot on your mind so if..." he trailed off giving his team mate a somewhat reasurring smile. For all of his youth Omi did have a wonderful way with people and he knew his team mates inside and out. "You know if you ever wanna talk about it I really don't mind. We can't keep fighting each other though, we're all we've got."
Ken just shook his head dark hair brushing past his cheek. "No Omi...but thanks. I think, " he sighed heavily, "that maybe I'll go check and see if Aya-chan's alright." A sad smiled crossed his lips. "That is if Aya isn't in there. I think I've already crossed enough boundaries for one night. I do know Omi...but sometimes it's just so hard. The heart can only take so much bruising." Turning to go he got to the stairs at turned back. "Don't worry Omi. We'll figure it out...we always do."
