Chapter 7
That morning, everywhere you looked along the central street, as well as in the main square, were merchants. Selling everything from clothing, Pokeballs, books, souvenirs, plush dolls, and much more.
Leading his girls away from the stalls, with promises to let them browse later, Fallen continued to walk towards the Pokecentre. Near the doors to the large building he could see a small crowd building.
As he neared, he smirked silently to himself. Many of those gathered around the entrance were Tamers, a good deal of which wore badges showing that they are participants in the Tournament.
It was not the badges that caused him to be amused. It was the fact that many of those Tamers were eagerly trading their Pokegirls, mere hours before the tournament. The beeps of a number of Pokedex registering trades filled the air, occasionally accompanied by the wail of a newly-traded Pokegirl who did not want to leave their master.
Why do these people trade away their girls like they are nothing but toys. He thought to himself, as he passed many Tamers, some of which eyed his girls, no doubt thinking of trading possibilities. These Tamers do not even consider the feelings of the girls they are trading. Sure it would be alright if the Tamer they are leaving were not treating them properly, or they did not like their Harem-sisters.
Lost in his thoughts, he nearly ran into the back of a very large, and muscular Tamer, had not Celiena pulled him out of the way. The massive Tamer glanced at him, and gave a grunt of dismissal, before going back to his trading.
“I feel sorry for them.” Celistine said, as they neared the doors of the Pokecenter.
“Pokegirls...we are still human. We should be treated as such.” Royce added, as they slipped into the Pokecentre.
As the doors closed behind them, the noise from the crowd outside disappeared, as if it was blocks away, instead of only a few feet. Inside, the main lobby stretched out before them. The deep green carpet underfoot matched with the light tan of the walls gave a tranquil, calming atmosphere. Standing behind the large oak counter stood a Pussycom, wires from the side of her head ran into the console before her, her eyes had a far-off look in them.
When Fallen approached the desk, she said “One moment please.”, without even looking at them. A minute later, her eyes returned to normal, and she turned and smiled at them.
“Hello Mr. Fallen. I see you are here ready to participate in this year’s Tournament. Our database has been updated, confirming the addition of the Clowmystic Celistine and the Witch Royce into your Harem. Their data has been added to your Tournament Entry.”
“Oh..I see...” Fallen replied, looking at the Pussycom, surprised that she knew all of that.
Motioning with one arm towards a set of double-doors to the right of the desk, she added. “If you would just pass this way, and up the stairs to the Poke Arena on the 2nd floor, you will be shown to where you and your girls may rest until it is time for you to participate. There are also fully-equipped Taming facilities available if needed.”
Nodding, he led his girls towards the doors. He heard the Pussycom’s soft voice greet another Tamer as they approached the desk before the doors closed behind him.“Hello Mr. Kirishima....”
Two hours later, after checking out the competition, and studying the Tournament Ladder, Fallen and his girls were waiting for the Tournament to begin. Solistine was looking through her cards, trying to come up with potent combinations, while her sister, Royce, went through the motions of different attacks. Leaning up against the wall, Fallen pretended to be sleeping, all the while watching his surroundings intently.
Celiena, returning from a vendor with a tray full of drinks, knelt down next to her Tamer. “Hey, Fallen.” she said, handing him a coffee. “This will probably be just like all those other tournaments we won, right?”
Taking the cup, he smirked up at her. “Yes, but this time you won’t have to work as hard. Solistine and Royce should be able to help out until the final.”
Sitting next to her lover, Celiena looked at the two new girls that had recently joined them. “I am sure they will work well together. I just hope they are not too surprised about Shelob.”
Fallen shook his head. “I do not wish to get into any trouble with the local authorities. Though it is not illegal to have a Widow, people tend to think you’re up to no good.”
Celiena was just about to comment when she was interrupted by the announcement of the first battle. “That’s us.” she said, getting up.
Nodding, he stood up and motioned for the other girls to join him. Kissing each of them, he turned and strode out into the stadium, flanked by his Harem.
“Hello and welcome to all our viewers. This is Adam Karunuch, and with me is my always lovely co-host Ribitta. We bring you live coverage of the Riven Pokegirl Tournament.” Rough-looking Adam reported, smiling into the camera.
“This is the 21st year that Riven has held this Pokegirl Tournament. Which is always followed by a wonderful festival, celebrating the culture and heritage of this region.” Ribitta added, smiling. “We take you now live, to the opening and announcement of the first match-up!”
“Welcome everyone to the 21st Annual Riven Pokegirl Tournament!” the announcer, a Herolee shouted into the crowd, her voice amplified by microphones and speakers. “This year we have a hell of a show for you all! 100 Tamers have gathered here from around the world, all vying to become this year’s champion!”
The noise of the crowd threatened to over-power the announcer, but she continued on, the speakers blasting her voice over the crowd. “The victor of this Tournament will be awarded a Riven Mountain League Badge, and prize money of $10 000 League credits! Donated by the Shin Ra Corporation, and the Mountain League Pokegirl Association! The runner-up will receive $5 000 Credits, and Third will receive $1 000 Credits.”
“Now, lets get this thing started!” The Herolee waited for the crowd to die down a bit before she continued. “The first round shall begin! First up, is local Tamer Kendricen Jounajha! And his opponent, from the town of Kampa, is known only as Fallen.”
“According to recent reports, the town of Kampa burned down a short while ago.” Ribitta’s voice interrupted the broadcast. “Hopefully this tragedy will not affect Fallen’s performance today.”
At hearing the announcer mentioning his home town, Fallen looked up at the Media Booth. How did they know I was from there? He thought, as he took his position on the arena floor. Could it be my Pokedex that linked me to that place?
Only Celiena was out of her Pokeball, the others agreed to be put into theirs to give his opponent the element of surprise. The Dark Lady grinned at her opponent’s Alpha, a slightly tall Ria. You look very cute, dear...it is truly a shame that I have to mess up that pretty face of yours. Celiena laughed silently to herself, tossing one side of her cape over a shoulder.
Fallen leaned down to whisper into his Alpha’s ear, his eyes never leaving his opponent. “I want this to be fast. If you see an opening, take it. But do try and keep up your strength. We want the element of surprise later on.”
Smiling, Celiena nodded, giving a slight nod of her head to the Ria across from her. “That poor girl will not know what hit her...”
“Alright, it looks like the first two fighters have taken up position and are ready.” Ribitta announced over the speakers, her eyes on the battle below her.
“This will be a one-on-one Pokegirl battle.” called out a judge standing between the two contestants. “Standard Rules apply to this battle. The first player who’s Pokegirl is either knocked out, submits or is recalled loses. Sex-Attacks are prohibited from this fight.”
Stepping out from the ring, the judge took a seat on the sidelines. “Start Battle!”
The sound of an air horn filled the arena, announcing the start of the battle. Yet before the sound faded, the Dark Lady was standing in front of the Ria, delivering a fierce backhanded slap. The Ria fell back with the force of the blow, yet used the momentum to twist her body around, hitting the dark-clad girl with her electrified tail.
A cry of surprise escaped the Dark Lady’s lips, as the Ria’s tail hit her side, sending a blast of electricity through her body. Taking a step away, she eyed the Ria, smoke rising from where the electric-type’s tail hit.
“Oh, you’re good.” the Dark Lady hissed, watching her opponent. “This is going to be fun..”
“Alright...let’s go!” the Ria replied, leaping at the other girl, nails ready to deliver a fierce Scratch attack. Seeing the attack aimed at her, the Dark Lady stepped to the side, and delivered a swift kick to the Ria’s mid-section.
Before the Ria could react, the Dark Lady pivoted and brought her foot down directly on the girl’s neck, driving her into the dirt. Jumping back, she unleashed an Energy Blade attack, knocking the Ria backwards as she was coming to her feet.
The crowd gasped, as the Ria was driven backwards, slamming into the barrier surrounding the arena. Crying out in pain, the Ria slumped to the ground, unmoving. Her Tamer looked from his fallen Alpha, to the approaching pokegirl. Before she could release another attack, he quickly pulled out a pokeball, recalling the fallen Ria.
Smirking, the Dark Lady turned and walked back to her Tamer, kissing him deeply.
“Wow! What a match!” Adam’s voice filled the arena.
“Whoever this Fallen is, it looks as if he truly knows how to Tame his girls.” Ribitta added, her voice over-powering that of the judge who was announcing the winner. “He appears to be a Tamer to watch in this Tournament.”
The Tamers walked out of the arena, to the cheering, and booing, of the crowd.
“Now we will take a short commercial break, before we bring you the next exciting match!” Ribitta announced over the loudspeakers.
Walking under a dark archway leading beneath the arena’s seats, Fallen smiled at Celiena, as he released his other girls, minus Shelob, to congratulate the Dark Lady.
As soon as they were away from the eyes of the crowd, Celiena dropped to her knees, holding onto her side, inhaling sharply in a cry of pain. Her eyes clenched shut, mouth twisted into a grimace of agony, she remained still, clutching her side.
“Celiena!” Royce cried, as soon as she was released and saw the Dark Lady, obviously in pain. She fell to her knees beside Celiena, her eyes full of worry, touching the older girl’s shoulder lightly, afraid to injure the girl further.
Celistine stood off to one side, not wanting to crowd Celiena, but her eyes never leaving the two on their knees.
Feeling the other’s eyes on her, Celiena slowly took her hand away from her side, stained crimson with her blood. Her black dress had kept the injury hidden from her opponent, and the eager eyes of the spectators. Though on closer inspection, the material was darker where she had held her side.
“You should have been more careful.” Fallen said, his voice full of concern for his Alpha.
“I was being careful..” Celiena hissed through teeth clenched together with pain. “..it wasn’t until I had that bitch knocked out that I felt it. I was going to make her pay for cutting me, but her stupid Tamer recalled her.”
Sighing, Fallen bent down and gently touched Celiena’s side, wincing as she inhaled sharply in pain, his fingers coming away stained in her blood. Without looking at them, he ordered Royce and Celestine to go and tell the Pokecenter’s desk that he will be arriving with an injured girl. The two of them, with a sympathetic look at Celiena, took off at a run down the hallway.
Kissing her lightly, he touched Celiena’s cheek tenderly. “I hope you will be more careful next time.” to which she nodded meekly.
Very gently, trying not to injure her further, nor cause her any discomfort, he gathered her into his arms and carried her off towards the Pokecenter in the lower level of the Arena. Sighing, Celina wrapped her arms around his neck, closing her eyes and resting her head on his shoulder.
“Sir, we have a target located.” the voice of a young secretary echoed throughout the vast office.
Turning slightly from his view of the city of Midgar through the expansive window behind the large oak desk, Rufus smiled slightly, causing the Kitten to blush. “That’s the best news I have heard all day...” Letting his voice trail off, he seated himself at the desk, motioning for the girl to continue with her report.
Swallowing down her nervousness, the Kitten scanned the document in her hands. “Well, you asked Section 6 to scan and keep track of all the Tamers who enter local Gyms or Tournaments for possible candidates as Agents...”
Nodding in acknowledgment, Rufus motioned for her to continue with her report.
Blinking, she blushed deeper, fumbling through the papers for what she arrived at the office to report. “Well..um.. The Riven Pokegirl Festival is on, as you know. Each year they hold a Tournament...which we sponsor.. Ah...” blushing even deeper, the Kitten quickly finds the sheet of paper she was searching for. “There is a Tamer who goes by the name of Fallen...”
The Pokecenter area of the Riven Arena complex was fairly simple in design, considering the vast numbers of Tamers and their Girls the center services. Walls of a light grey with florescent lights hanging from a tall ceiling, and a simple black-and-white tiled floor.
Typical with Pokecentres, a pair of Nurse Joys manned the desk, aiding concerned and desperate Tamers with their kind words and expressions. Though for the duration of the Tournament and Festival, the center had more Joys stationed in the Pokecenter itself.
Fallen sighed, not for the first time that day, as he waited in the lobby for Celiena to come out from behind the double-doors leading to the ER of the center. The doctors and Joys assured him that everything would be alright, and it was a simple case of shock and blood-loss that caused the collapse. Along with a bruised rib, there were no other injuries to Celiena.
From under the brim of his hat, he studied the other occupants of the room. There were the usual Tamers who were only there for the typical Healing Cycle, and a few purchasing travel supplies from a small counter placed off to the side of the main one. A group of dirt covered individuals standing off to one corner caught his eye for a moment, one girl with an arm in a makeshift sling, obviously part of the shirt from the girl standing off to the side, a large section missing from the edge of her top. The Tamer of the group was the one worse for wear, a bandage covering half of his scalp, along with more cuts and dried blood over his clothes. His left leg was in a splint, though it was his girls who carried their Tamer to the center for treatment.
Moving on from that group, Fallen continued to study the various individuals waiting for news from the ever-chipper Nurse Joys. Most were the run-of-the-mill Tamer, having a Pokegirl healed after a battle. A lone figure caught his eye, as he looked along a half-hidden part of the room.
Dressed in a dusty grey jumpsuit, dishevelled blond hair hanging before his wide-rimmed glasses, and a fake custodial staff badge pinned to one pocket, the man looked too out of place to be normal. As Fallen watched, the man glanced nervously towards the main counter, then back towards the entrance to the Pokecenter a couple of times, a worried look to his eyes. The look of a person doing something they knew to be wrong.
