\"What were you thinking Conan? Somebody could have been killed?\"
\"But Ran, I didn\'t...\" Conan began.
\"Don\'t even start Conan. I caught you red-handed. Go to my room.\" she demanded.
\"But it\'s the truth. I really didn\'t.\" he protested.
\"You\'re just getting yourself in more trouble by lying to me. Now go to my room.\" Ran stated firmly.
\"I\'m telling you...\"
\"Enough! I don\'t want to hear it!\" She grabbed him and held him under her arm. \"I was only going to use my hand, but I guess you need to be punished for lying too!\"
He struggled and kicked, his face flushed from indignation. Ran carried him to her room and pulled down his shorts and underwear as she approached the bed. As soon as she sat down she placed her little brother over her lap and started to spank him.
Ran\'s hand came down again and again very fast, quickly reddening his bottom. He willed himself not to cry. Usually he took full advantage of the unwritten rule that when he was spanked by Ran, he could cry as much as he wanted. But not this time. When he stopped struggling Ran grabbed her hairbrush and brought it down on him with a hard SMACK!
Conan couldn\'t take anymore, and tears made their way down his face as Ran continued his punishment. He pleaded and begged, proclaiming his innocence, but she wouldn\'t listen.
Ran kept going until his cheeks were cherry-red. When she tried to hold him afterwards, he broke from her grasp. He had no intention of letting himself be comforted after she punished him for something he didn\'t do. He ran out of her room and to his own. Once there he threw himself face down on his sleeping mat and cried. How could Ran do this? Sure, he occasionally got spanked, but he had deserved it every time. Was that why she didn\'t beleave him?
Ran sat on her bed, confused. Conan had never acted this way before. He was usually very passive during his spankings, wanting only for it to be over with.
He thoughts were interupted by a knock at the door. She answered it to find Genta and his mother.
\"My son has something to tell you.\" The woman said, casting a stern glance at Genta.
He shifted nervously before begining. \"It was our idea. Me and Mitsuhiko were throwing water ballons over the overpass onto cars. Conan told us not to, but we kept doing it anyway. That\'s why he had a ballon in his hand when you saw him, he took it from me. I\'m sorry\"
\"Not as sorry as you\'re going to be when we get home.\" His mother told him, grabbing him by the ear.
Ran felt sick. Conan had been telling the truth, and she didn\'t beleave him. She found herself wishing her mother were here to punish her. She even briefly concidered letting Conan spank her. She had never felt this bad about anything in her entire life.
Conan heard the door open and felt Ran sit next him. He didn\'t get up.
\"Conan, sweety I\'m sorry.\"
He didn\'t respond. He was still too mad at her.
Ran started to rub lotion on him. It wasn\'t really needed, usually only being used after a particularly hard punishment, but still it was an honest gesture of regret.
Who was he kidding? He couldn\'t stay angry at Ran. He loved her, no matter what she did.
He got onto his knees and wrapped his arms around her neck. \"It\'s okay.\"
\"I\'m so sorry. I should\'ve listened.\" Ran hugged him back, and Conan let go. Life was to short to dwell over the past. Better to focus on the future.
\"I forgive you.\"
Later, Ran took him out for ice-cream, and bought him the biggest thing they had. And she even let him stay up late watching a movie. She vowed that from now on she would examine a situation instead of just acting on instinct.
