Travels of a Martial Artist
Part Three: An Unexpected Companion
“Man,” Ukyo said as she stretched in the warmth of the summer sun, “I can't believe the school year is finally over! We should have the girls over to celebrate!”
Ranma momentarily wilted at the thought, but regained his composure quickly.
“I suppose. Usagi really has come far in her studies, so I suppose it's time so stop dangling the carrot and give it to her.”
“I really am happy that you decided to stay so we could finish the school year Ran-chan. I may be able to operate the one restaurant on reputation alone, but I doubt I'd ever be able to start a franchise of my own without a business degree let alone a high school diploma.”
Ranma nodded in agreement.
“Besides, it's given us more time to play with a group of horny high school girls,” Ukyo said with a feral grin.
“Well, nothin' says we can't ever come back for a visit. And once we find a place to settle down for a bit, they can come visit us occasionally too,” Ranma declared.
“True enough, but we have a party to plan!” Ukyo cried with a cheer.
“About that,” came a voice from behind the couple.
Turning, they saw Usagi and their other friends with solemn expressions.
“What's wrong girls?” Ranma asked, concerned.
“Well,” Minako began slowly, “Usagi, Ami, and Rei won't be able to make it to the party. At least, not the 'party',” she clarified, leaving little doubt about to which activities she was referring.
“Well damn. What's going on?” Ukyo prodded.
“The thing is,” Usagi said, picking up the explanation, “Ami's mother is taking her on a trip to visit a colleague of hers. They're leaving for the airport early in the morning. My parents talked to Rei's grandpa, and they wound up scheduling a vacation to the mountains. We're leaving tonight.”
“This is kind of sudden, isn't it? When did you find out?”
“Well, Ami actually knew for a week now, but she was trying to convince her mother to let her stay with one of us while she made her visit, but Rei and I just found out last night. That pretty much killed any hope of Ami being able to stay since her mother would only trust her to stay with either Rei or myself.”
“Well, that sucks,” Ranma said, part of him sad that he and Ukyo wouldn't get to celebrate their graduation with their friends properly, and another glad for the chance to pass a night unmolested. At least by anyone other than Ukyo...
Sure he was at the peak of physical perfection, but even he could only handle taking six girls at a time for extended periods without succumbing to fatigue.
It'd be a nice change of pace, ignoring the fact that it was his last night in Juuban for an indeterminable length of time...
With the party plans effectively shut down, the group decided on one last visit to the ice cream parlor instead.
-ooo-
“I'm gonna miss them,” Ukyo said as they stood outside the apartment she and Ranma had lived in for the past few months.
“Yeah. Even if they were a bunch of insatiably horny magical school girls,” Ranma replied with a laugh.
They stood and reminisced a few moments longer before heading towards the city limits. Packs on their shoulders and smiles on their faces, they took a leisurely pace. Of course, that meant that they out ran most traffic.
They continued their run until the sun had nearly set and they had put the lights of the city far behind them.
Leaning against a tree, Ukyo pulled out her canteen and was wetting her dry throat when she noticed a presence in the darkness around her.
“Hey Ranma,” she said calmly, not wanting to alert who, or what, was watching them, “You remember that movie we saw with the girls a few days ago?”
Not picking up the hint, he looked at her dumbly.
“What, the one with the talkin' rabbit and the taxi, or the one with the hooker and the rich guy? I'll say again, I'd have much preferred Koroshiya Ichi.”
Ukyo almost groaned at her lover's obliviousness.
“I meant the one about the couple walking alone in the woods at night, and when they stop to admire the stars a psycho killer jumped out from the shadows and cut them into itsy bitsy pieces!”
Mmm... Nope. Don't remember that one. It'd be just like you girls to watch a good movie without me though. I think you do it on purpose. Now, if you'll stop yelling please. You're about to scare Shampoo.”
Ukyo stumbled over her intended tirade when his words sunk in.
“Shampoo?”
Turning, she saw the silhouette of the Chinese Amazon behind her.
'At least I know what that lurking presence was...'
“Come on out Shampoo,” Ranma beckoned softly. “I ain't gonna hurt ya. Not anymore.”
The memory of Shampoo's last attempt at him passed quickly, but painfully through his mind.
Shampoo stepped forward hesitantly, causing a concerned gasp from Ukyo, and an aguished choke from Ranma.
Her advances upon him aside, he thought her a good person at heart, and he wouldn't wish what he saw upon Kuno...
Her hair, once lush and voluminous, was cropped off just below her jawline. Her silk raiment was dirty and looked to have been slept in numerous times. She looked to be malnourished, and her once proud gaze had degenerated into an almost lost meekness.
“Oh Shampoo, what happened to you?”
End 3
A/N: Yep, I'm back. In know this one took me awhile to post, but at least it wasn't as killer a hiatus as last time. That one was what, a year?
Sorry for the short chapter, but the next one is underway, and should (with any luck) be up in a few days max.
On a side note, anyone else going to Otakon '08? Kappei Yamaguchi is going to be there who, if you didn't already know, is the seiyuu for Ranma!
Gods I want an autograph!
The english dub actress for Kasumi is gonna be there too ;P
I'm excited, can ya tell? It also has the distinction of being the first convention I shall have attended (assuming all plans succeed. Murphy can still muck it up... Dirty bastard).
Well, as always, feel free to send me any questions or comments you have. Ideas of possible locations for our former NWC members are welcome as well. It might be high time for these Ranma lemons to take the crossover less used to completely butcher Robert Frost.
