transition
this probably could have been a part of the last chapter, but real life interrupted my typing session. its pretty short and not very detail oriented, but i think everything will wrap up within a few chapters of here.
quick edited after posting for a couple of typo demons.
------------
Gojyo sighed as now-familiar weight settled onto his shoulder. “I thought I told you to stay with Sanzo.”
Hakuryu nuzzled his cheek in response.
“And I suppose it’ll be useless to try and send you back?”
The dragon chirped agreeably.
He didn’t really want Hakuryu to go back to the others anyway. Making him stay had felt a little like throwing out a pet that he wouldn’t keep just because the girlfriend wasn’t around anymore—it wasn’t at all fair to him. And the trip back home, if that’s where he decided to go, would be damned lonely without some kind of company.
The little dragon would be a constant reminder of Hakkai, but he could stand that in the face of being alone. The kappa wasn’t sure he knew how to really be alone anymore.
“Fine. You can stay.”
Hakuryu chirped again and the pair continued east.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
With every step they took, Sanzo had a harder time making Goku follow. Or do anything, really, aside from casting longing looks over his shoulder. After almost four hours of this, the priest finally snapped.
“What the hell is your problem?!” he yelled, slamming his fan into the monkey’s head.
“Ow!” Goku rubbed his head. “What did I do?”
“Stop looking back there like you think he’s coming back. Gojyo made his choice.” Violet eyes closed as Sanzo shook his head. “He doesn’t have the strength to do this without Hakkai.”
“What? Go west?”
“No. Live.”
And while Sanzo would never admit it, he could sympathize with the kappa.
Goku was silent for a long moment. “Do you think he’ll find it again?”
Sanzo wasn’t sure if his charge meant strength or the will to live. Either way, he didn’t have an answer for him.
