Disclaimer: I don\'t own the Rayearth settings or characters, nor the song lyrics below. Meh. Oh, and I\'m not making money. Or at least that\'s what I want you to think...
A/N: *stares at previous chapter with shaking hands* I...I did it...stupid orgasm imitation, but...I did it! Actual penetration and detail in a sex scene - a first for my writing. I usually suck ass even more. After his little haircut in this chapter, I started getting afraid that Rannock is going to end up looking like Rion from my previous shitty romance-type thing. I\'ve taken Zagato and mutated him into an OC...sorry, Sol-domo...

Chapter 8: Approaching
And so the weeks passed by. Umi mastered new water skills much more easily after the day she had created magic on nearly her first try. It was as if a bubble had been inside of her, waiting to pop and release the power inside, and now it had been popped and was spewing ability and confidence onto everything it touched.
Now that her powers were set up and stable, she was using more of her time helping Rannock look for more information on FireClan. Avretta and her minions were closing in quicker than ever before, and at this point even the smallest, most insignifigant fact would help.
She found herself looking through many books and scrolls. From what she had learned so far, she knew that there were once four Great Clans: FireClan, EarthClan, AirClan, and WaterClan. Since that time, the ancient Firians had wiped out the Earthrans, Airions, and Waterans. The generations of leaders had passed down evil, envy, and greed through their bloodline.
\"They even destroyed the clan of the Waterans,\" Umi said remarked one day, rather puzzled, \"So how could one measly girl with some water spells defeat them?\"
\"I\'ve told you before - it\'s your destiny,\" Rannock struggled to explain, \"Destiny can make the impossible happen.\"
They had long since agreed that despite what Umi had said, she didn\'t love Rannock in the special way that Avretta had pretended to. It was more of a close friendship that could eventually go somewhere else with a bit of luck.
Rannock\'s intelligence always struck Umi as incredible. If he lived on Earth, he wouldn\'t even be able to go to college due to his age, and yet he was smarter than most citizens of Japan. His mind could absorb every bit of information after seeing it only once, and he always seemed to be able to put the information he had to good use.
He always sat for many hours in his majestic black Cephiran robes, with his laughably long hair flowing over the chair and onto the floor. Though it was unimportant, Umi was quite surprised when that changed. One day Rannock\'s hair was normal, and the next it was just above shoulder length.
Umi didn\'t comment. She figured that it was not anything but a good way to make a fool of herself, state the obvious, and make a useless statement all at once. \'
And then there came the day when Rannock told Umi about an important piece of info that he had found in an ancient textbook - FireClan had scheduled their final assault for a week from that day. Every thousand years, they had been launching a great assault on two worlds on a certain day. This time it was Cephiro, and, if they prevailed with that, Earth.
Even Kai was in a panic. The usually cool-headed imp had practically gone insane with worry already, and he often said things like:
\"We\'ll never survive.\"
\"We\'re doomed.\"
\"Face it, it\'s the end of two worlds.\"
\"FireClan is too strong.\"
\"We\'d be fighting a losing battle.\"
\"Crap.\"
\"This is insane...we\'ll all die, and we\'ll get everyone else killed in the process.\"
\"And so what are we supposed to do?\" Rannock finally asked him angrily, \"Refuse to fight? As long as we even have a chance of one in the highest number ever, it\'s still a chance. It\'s better than doing nothing at all...\"
\"...and facing certain death,\" Umi concluded for him.
Kai sighed. \"I\'m telling you, you kids are insane.\"
!~
And then there finally came the day when Rannock gave Umi the urgent message - \"They\'re here. It\'s now or never. Time to fight them off.\"
To be continued
