Chapter one: Wiedergeburt
It was around midnight when Nagi returned from his hunt. The night was chilly and his victim had been a young and athletic girl, making the race just the more fascinating with her strong will to live. The body of the young looking boy was thrilled from the amount of adrenalin that had been circulating through her veins when the red hot liquid had splashed into his mouth and she lay still in his arms.
Ever fibre of his body seemed to be on fire still when the blond entered the common room of their apartment, finding a bored and half-asleep Schuldig on the couch. The older one plainly stared somewhere in front of him, the TV almost completely ignored even though he was actually watching some cool horror movie. At least Nagi thought it was cool. But whenever he had to see his comrade let himself sink into the depth of apathy like that he felt anger burning up inside him.
“Goddamn Schuldig! Why don’t you go out and get yourself something to eat?” he started his tirade. “Look at you. You’ve become nothing but a mere shadow of your own self. It’s a shame. You look like death himself. Pale and ugly.”
He plopped down on the couch next to his former hunting-partner, looking at him inquiringly. “What’s wrong with you?”
“What’s wrong with me? God, Nagi…I’m bored! Have you never looked at those humans? They’re all the same, their blood holds nothing special for me anymore…”, he answered dryly, gesturing around with the empty blood bag he had been drinking from.
Though the green-haired Vampire had never expected it, after over 400 years he had grown tired of his immortal life. He had found ways to keep himself amused of course, he had seen wars and death, he had had lovers but somehow nothing of this appealed to him any longer.
“Geez. You sound like some old man who’s grown tired of live, yet you have every possibility one can imagine… but just sit around and pity yourself.”
Nagi made a face. Within the blink of an eye he stood in front of his old teacher and grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stand. “The world has changed Schuldig. As did the humans. You would have noticed if you had cared to put a feet in front of this house in the last fifty years and looked at them.”
Then he turned around and simply pulled the older one along. “I can’t look at this any longer. You’re coming with me tonight.”
Schuldig could have easily freed his arm out of the other’s grip but the promise of some fun falling from the other’s lips stopped him from doing so.
“If we need to drive, I will”, he stated when they left the apartment and grabbed his key. He had already seen Nagi drive, and honestly he had no intention in experiencing it as well.
“Ha.ha,” the younger one gave back sourly. But when they were outside he let go of the other’s arm and got into the car without further comments, leaving the driver’s seat to Schuldig.
He told his companion the direction when the engine awoke to live with a roar and felt a tingle of excitement shoot through him at the mere thought of where they were heading.
“Believe me, you’ll like that place. But maybe we should find you a human or two to feed of, because you should not be hungry when we arrive there,” Nagi mused. But then again there should be enough hookers around that only their fancy man would miss.
Schuldig followed the directions Nagi gave him, playing a bit more with his car than actually necessary till they finally came to a halt in front of some building.
“Shall we?” he asked and stepped out of the car, waiting for Nagi to do so as well.
He took a deep breath of the night air and although breathing was not a necessity for him, he had grown used to imitating this movement, which was quite helpful when you were with a bunch if humans. And now that he could nearly see the air around him pulsate with sheer life he just felt like he needed a part of it inside himself.
Nagi had not said too much, the world had definitely changed, and the German already cursed himself for having missed it.
The younger one nodded and then pointed towards a dark corner. “First though, do yourself a favour and do something against your unhealthy tan. Those two girls should do for now, ne?” he asked with a face that was pure innocence. “Do you need help?”
“You never get enough, huh?” the German replied with a smirk and waved his hand in a sign for Nagi to follow him.
They reached the corner and it did not take them long to feed on the two young girls, probably drugged, judging their behaviour. Schuldig let the corpse in his arms fall to the ground and licked his lips, the warm copper pulsating through his veins, a low purr falling from his lips.
“You should have done this a lot earlier Nagi”, he drawled and checked his white suit for any blood stains.
Of course. This had been to be expected. It was his fault. The younger one sent his ‘father’ a deadly glare before he dove deeper into the shadows of the alley. “Follow me then,” he whispered, watching with a strange feeling of satisfaction how Schuldig’s snow white tan disappeared and soon resembled skin again.
His concaved cheeks were filled with new life – or rather the life of that girl – and that dangerous gleam that Nagi used to love back then was back in the dark yellow eyes. A hunter was reborn.
‘You’re right. I should have.’
“Say Schuldig… have you ever lain with another man?” the blond asked, while they slowly walked up to an old brick-stone house, even though he was pretty sure he knew the answer.
“Um, no…why?” the German replied and re-adjusted his bandana before he buried his hands inside the pockets of his white cloak and looked at Nagi with his head crooked it a questioning manner. “You are not taking me to a brothel, are you little one?”
The smaller one looked up at his comrade with wide blue eyes, and such an innocent expression that you could have scraped sugar off his face. “No,” he said sweetly before he started to grin almost devilish. “Something much better.”
He walked up the stairs of the house and reached out for the heavy wooden door, opening it with a swift movement. A rich and smooth smell rolled over them like a wave. It was sweet but at the same time spicy, dry and sharp. Overwhelming for their fine senses, but not uncomfortable.
Nagi breathed in deeply, bathing in the flood of warm air. “I love that moment when that door opens,” he purred before he slowly stepped inside.
“Welcome,” they were greeted by a light voice and a blond woman stepped closer to them with a smile.
“In our realm,” came the other part of the sentence from the other side as the black-haired equivalent approached them.
“Please enjoy your stay. May all your wishes be satisfied,” they chirped simultaneously.
Schuldig looked at the two women and a smirk formed on his lips. “I do hope so,” he mumbled and then looked at Nagi, actually wanting to ask him something but before he could he was addressed by the black haired woman.
“Tell me Nagi, who is this companion of yours?” she whispered, her voice smoky and she let her eyes travel down Schuldig’s body free and easy.
“His name is Schuldig,” the youngest one replied. “He’s my father.”
The two women nodded when Nagi referred to his creator and then put his hand on his shoulder, pointing towards them.
“Please meet Birman and Manx, the mistresses of this place,” he introduced the black-haired one with the white dress first, and then her blond sister who wore the same dress in black.
Manx smiled openly at Schuldig and stepped closer towards him, reaching out with her petite hand to move her thumb over his forehead, but when she realised that his bandana covered it completely she reached out for the cheek instead. There she left a fine scent and a red mark that told everyone that it was his first visit.
“We hope you enjoy your first time here,” she whispered, her voice smooth and soft.
“Thanks…But I would be pleased if somebody finally told me: what exactly is this place?” he asked, looking around. Alright, he could already guess what was going on in this place, but he would prefer to hear it from one of the mistresses.
“This is our house of pleasure,” they explained, once more simultaneously. “Here you will get everything your heart yearns for.”
They smiled. “Well..” Manx added. “Almost,” Birman finished.
“But to fully understand our realm you have to experience it with your own senses. We are sure your son will explain the rules to you.”
Nagi nodded. “Yeah, I’ll tell him everything he needs to know.”
“Oh, you will?” Schuldig asked and looked at his son with his right eyebrow raised in question. “Than what are you waiting for?” he urged the younger immortal, the sweet scents in the air slowly starting to draw him in.
A light giggle was heard from the two girls and they bowed politely before taking a step back. “We will leave you on your own then,” they whispered before they disappeared into the shadows.
“Still didn’t learn to take a hold of your impatience, did you?” Nagi asked with an amused smirk after they were alone. He didn’t expect an answer though.
“Well, the rules are rather simple: no inappropriate violence, no killing or feeding so much that it leads to death. Other than that… there’s a scheme with colours you should take a look at,” he mused and walked towards a board in the main hall, close to the stairs. The whole room was lit up by countless candles, the walls made of wood and the floor seemed to be lain out with marble.
“Here… red means you can feed of them and also lay with them if you feel like it. Black is the same, just that they like pain too. So you can be rough on them. Blue is feeding only.”
Schuldig nodded to show that he understood and he read the board himself. “What about orange and yellow?” he pointed out, since they were their on the board beneath red but not explained. “And are there any differences in taste?”
“Um… yeah…. Red is uke, orange is seme and yellow stands for the kinky type,” he explained with a grin. “And yes… there are a lot of different tastes. The house has several floors and each favours a different type. With individual differences of course, but overall sorted. And of course the boys and girls here do have their own preferences, but it shouldn’t be hard for you to guess them.”
Nagi leaned against the wall, arms crossed. “So… what do you think?”
“Not bad…not bad at all,” Schuldig purred in reply and looked at his ‘son’ with his oh so well known smirk plastered onto his lips. “So…who’s your favourite?” he asked.
The younger one shrugged. “I don’t really have one. I try something else every time. Though I found someone you might enjoy. Though it depends on your mood. If you feel violent today I better recommend somebody else.”
“Violent?” Schuldig asked and shook his head. “No…I’m more in need for some…sugar,” he declared and buried his hands in his pockets again. “And a nice little shag wouldn’t hurt now, would it?”
Nagi grinned. “Good. Then my choice couldn’t have been better. Just follow me,” he said, the grin even audible when he pushed himself away from the wall and approached the stairs.
He led Schuldig up to the third floor, the scent now clearly distinguishable. First it became spicy on the first floor, then somehow oriental on the second and then fine and sweet on the third.
The two men followed a corridor to the common room of this storey. Several women and men of different age, skin colour and heritage sat around and chatted lightly. They had one thing in common though: everyone of them wore a necklace made of cloth in the colours Schuldig had seen on the board.
“See that one over there? With the red hair and the white kimono with the dragon print? Red necklace. That one’s for you. So go and enjoy your stay.”
Nagi hit his comrade on the back, causing him to make the first step into the direction and then simply turned away and walked out of the room to find a nice tasty human for himself.
Schuldig turned around but as he saw that Nagi was gone he just shrugged and walked into the direction of the person his son had described. As he walked he already took in the human’s sight, bathing in the beauty in front of him. When he was close enough for the human to hear he cleared his throat, waiting for her to turn around.
Ran blinked slightly irritated when the two girls in front of him stopped talking and looked wide-eyed at something behind him. Though when he heard the decent hem and saw a pair of eyes that gazed at him for a moment he understood that the new-arrival was addressing him. Slowly he rose to a stand and turned around to face his new customer. What he saw though was a pleasant surprise. At least at first sight.
The vampire was handsome and his clothes clean. Something that was not a matter of course. Though most of them were not ugly as Ran had to admit. He guessed that no vampire would be fond of turning an ugly person into one of his own kind.
So now the red-head stood there, waiting for the other to address him directly since he might have reacted on a wrong assumption.
Schuldig was speechless for a second as he realised that the person he had mistaken for a woman was indeed a man, a beautiful man nonetheless and Schuldig was someone who appreciated beauty when he saw it and so he greeted the man with a soft smile before he took his hand, brought it up to his lips and breathed a gentle kiss atop of the pale skin.
“Pleased to meet you. What’s your name?” he whispered, letting his voice be nothing more than a seductive whisper.
A deep blush crept into the red-head’s cheeks and he felt weak in the knees when those words ran over his hands just like the shiver ran down his spine. He wasn’t used to such treatment and a closer look into the handsome face made him aware of the faint red mark on the other’s cheek. He hadn’t caught sight of it at first because they normally were on the forehead.
He knew what the mark meant, but he had never had a customer who actually wore it.
“Ran,” he answered, barely audible for the humans around. “How… how may I please you?”
“A beautiful name for a beautiful being,” Schuldig replied, knowing very well that ‘Ran’ was he Japanese letter for orchid.
Gently he let one of his fingers trail the line of Ran’s cheek and down the other’s throat. “Maybe we should go somewhere more…private,” the vampire suggested, showing of his pearl-white fangs as he flashed the human another smile.
“Yes, of course,” the red-haired man murmured after the shiver had subsided that the soft touch had caused and extended his hand into the direction they had to take. “Please follow me,” he said softly and left the room with small and smooth steps, expecting the other man to be right behind him, even though he couldn’t hear him.
