Chapter 1: Losing You

11:25 a.m. - Back streets of Tokyo

\"Oh gosh, I\'m going to be late again!\" An attractive 24 year old woman was racing through the bustling streets of Tokyo in the year 2027 -- on her feet.

How very primitive for the times.

Tokyo in the year 2027 was most definitely advanced. Buildings easily reached heights passed 1,500 feet and people commonly used hover cars and stopped walking. This transportation advancement dealt hell to the common Japanese person\'s physique, considering that most were now overweight or obese due to the overwhelming flow of new technology that gave them new excuses not to exercise. The city was beautiful, though, with sakura trees on every block.

\"Aaaah! Mio-san will have my head if I\'m late this time,\" Riku Harada grunted loudly,\"I really despise that woman.\" Running on asphalt covered in potholes definitely wasn\'t being made easier considering that she was doing the running in sexy 3 inch heels and a tight skirt that rested mid-thigh.

She loved to look sexy at work, her male superiors definitely didn\'t mind and her only female superior, Mio Hio, hated it but had no power to stop Riku from doing so. Anything to piss off Mio, Riku would do.

\'Better stop talking to myself, people must think I\'m crazy...and I\'m running out of breath, fast\' Riku thought to herself as she cocked her head to the side to check out the time. \'Shit. 11:27 a.m. No way I could possibly make it befo--\' And at that second, she wasn\'t paying attention to where she was running and she tripped over the smallest of potholes, which only Riku could do.

\"Ahhh!\" splat. With her face covered in filth, she rose, uttering every curse word in the Japanese language and some others known to monkeys when she realized that she was covered in mud mixed with sewage.

\'Eeeew, this is so disgusting, and my outfit is filthy...!\' Riku would definitely be late to work now, and she was expecting hell from Mio. Unless...she avoided her...

Standing in front of the open sewage pipe that she had fallen in front of, she turned around before she became nauseated from the disgusting smell. But before the smell could reach her nose, a sexy but scary male voice reached her ears first...

\"Riku...don\'t run away from us anymore, come to us, we need yo--\" Riku threw her hands to her ears in a rough fashion and screamed. \"No! Leave me alone! Stop haunting me!\" She ran and ran some more.

But she could still hear the voice.

\"Riku...the hunt will go on...the hunt will go on...\" And with that, the voice disappeared. \'What is it with that guy? where is his voice coming from and what do his cryptic messages mean!\' Riku was now utterly exhausted and she limped to Tokyo General Hospital wearing one shoe, where she worked and was now definitely late.

That wasn\'t the first time she\'d heard that voice.

\'Every time I go near some sort of underground passage such as a drainage ditch, or sewage passageway, I hear that voice talking to me. Seriously creepy.\' Riku thought as she finally arrived to her main destination where she could go on working as a nurse...if only she could avoid Mio.

Tokyo General was the biggest and most elite hospital in the entirety of Japan. It was an honor to work there. It was 110 stories tall and it treated thousands of people a day. Indeed it was quite a gorgeous building with gardens inside and out.

\'So far so good...\' Riku thought as she sneaked inside through the nurse\'s main entrance.

Going through the main entrance, Riku, you sure are the smart cookie.

\'Almost to the bathroom...!\' And she was about to make the final dash, she bumped into Satoshi Hiwatari who is one of her fellow nurses. \"Hi Satoshi! eheheh.\" Satoshi smiled at her strangely and then turned around. \"Mio...I found her...!\" he said in a sing-song voice.

Riku twitched. \"Agh! Satoshi...you traitor!\"

\"Sorry Riku, did it under Mio\'s orders.\" and then he walked off in the opposite direction.

…Huff…

…Huff…

Mio\'s heavy breathing reached Riku\'s ears only seconds after Satoshi sent off the alarm. Everything to Riku seemed to go dark and the only thing she could visualize was Mio\'s piercing eyes in that darkness. Mio inhaled heavily and just as she was about to yell at Riku for her tardiness her nose contorted as if it was in pain.

\"Eeeeew! Riku, you\'re disgusting!\"

\"Thanks Mio, you sure are the observant one aren\'t you?\"

\"Since when did you earn the right to talk to me so un-formerly? Go change this instant, jou-chan!\"

\"Where do you get the nerve to call ME \'little miss\' ?\"

\"Hmm...maybe I get it from the fact that I\'M YOUR BOSS.\"

\"Grrr...you!\"

Mio, inevitably being the victor of her and Riku\'s daily battles at work, sighed and said

\"There\'s a storage closet around the corner, pick a standard nurses outfit and change. Report to the ER immediately afterwards, the Mages need help.\" Riku grudgingly said \"Yes ma\'am\" and she walked to the bathroom.

Mages.

Beautiful, intelligent, MAGICAL.

Accepted as Japanese citizens in the year 2022, they are restricted to the hospitals where they heal wounded soldiers using their magic. Nurses are still necessary because they help the patients cope and give them physical therapy. Mages only heal fatal wounds, they do not help with post-recovery, which is all too essential.

Riku is a very talented nurse who has blessed many lives in her 6 years as a registered nurse. When she was younger, she\'d always had pulled for Mages whom she admired so.

Before the year 2022, Mages were not accepted as people and were treated horribly by the humans who lived on the surface. Mages lived underground to protect their kind from the surface dwellers that hate them and are incredibly envious of them.

Japan was now involved in a deadly technological war against the Philippines.

Somewhere along the line, their relationship turned sour, and a horrible war broke out in the year 2017. Drafts for young men ensued and 14 year old Daisuke Niwa was sucked into the \'Azumano Draft.\' Riku didn\'t want to let him go, they had finally admitted their love for one another! But...she could do nothing about it. He\'d left 10 years ago and the only contact she\'d had with him was through letters, she hasn\'t seen him since that day he left.

But now she didn\'t even have the letters to look forward to.

He\'s currently apart of a major military operation in Hokkaido and was forbidden from contacting anyone who is not in the army for security reasons. Many soldiers died in the time period of 2017-2021 and the desperate Japanese government accepted the Mages so that they could ease the high death tolls. And ease the death tolls the Mages did. From the year 2022 to present day the Mages have saved so many lives with their magic. Riku wished she could be one of them someday...

Every night she cried for Daisuke, oh how she missed him so! She felt that working as a nurse treating the soldiers, that she was connected in Daisuke\'s cause. His life. And she loved it, all she needed now was...him. The faster this war was over, the faster she\'d get to see him.

Riku was now standing in the bathroom, holding a huge pair of pink pants and a pink shirt. She was disgusted to wear this nurses uniform, since it was much too big for her and completely un-flattering. Riku washed her hair and face and sprayed perfume so that she would not smell of sewage.

\"Hmph. Satoshi just HAD to call on Mio and publicly embarrass me like that.\" Riku then giggled \"Haha, he IS engaged to that beautiful vixen, I\'m sure she\'ll reward him...ha!\" Riku enjoyed thinking of Mio as some kind of slut.

Just as the beautiful nurse was about to walk out of the bathroom and to the ER, she suddenly felt paralyzed. As if some outwardly force was controlling her.

She slightly puckered her lips, and with her eyes forcibly closed, she placed them on the mirror.

\'N-no! What the hell am I doing! I can\'t...control it!\' she thought frantically. Then she was given control of her body. The first thing she did was open her eyes. Daisuke\'s face showed on the mirror as if he were kissing her too...

Riku pushed back in incredible surprise and the image of Daisuke faded away.

This drove Riku to absolute delirium.

\"Nooo! Daisuke...I can\'t lose you again!\" She fell back sobbing on the bathroom floor and then it struck her. Riku Harada, 24 year old nurse, with the strongest stubborn and independent streak, was being controlled so easily by...someone.

Now she was being sucked into her past memories, into a mind slip. \"No..no..I can\'t remember Daisuke now...I\'ll be lat--\" Before she could finish talking, she gave into the bliss of her and Daisuke\'s past that she was now being forced to watch happen again before her eyes.
