If you are familiar with Haibane-Renmei, you’ll probably catch on, just from reading the first little bit of this fic, that the fic takes place sometime before Rakka’s “birth” into Old Home. However, I won’t say too much, because some of you haven’t yet seen Haibane-Renmei, yet. So I’ll stop there before I spoil anything. But just keep in mind, as you read this fic, that it takes place a little before the actual series starts.

Prologue
The sun rose gently over the green landscape between the Town of Glie and Old Home, one of two “nests” for the “Haibane”, a mysterious race of angel-like humanoids that lived among the humans of the town. Little “Kuu” was one of these Haibane, just barely old enough to fit into the “Older Feathers” group of the Haibane. Kuu, often mistaken for a boy because of her short hair, undeveloped body and boyish clothes, was just starting off her sixth month in this strange new world of the Haibane.
The sun shone through Kuu’s bedroom window and onto her face, slightly, enough to wake her from her slumber. She squirmed a little bit, then shielding her eyes from the sun’s glow with one hand, she opened her eyes. Kuu sat up in her bed. Her pyjamas were wrinkled, showing over-use without being ironed. Typical for Haibane clothing, as Haibane were forbidden to have new things. Haibane were only allowed to buy or receive used things that nobody needed anymore.
“I better get up and get changed, now. I’m sure Reki is already preparing breakfast”, Kuu thought to herself. She then stood up, and walked to her dresser drawer, and pulled out her usual spring clothes. The outfit consisted of an off-white and lime-green sweater with a pouch on the lower front, and a pair of blue shorts. Kuu laid the outfit, folded, onto her bed. She then began unbuttoning her pyjama top, one button at a time, from top to bottom. Once she reached the bottom button, and unbuttoned it, she then began to slide off the top, exposing her bare flat chest and belly to the warmth of the sun that came through her bedroom window. The sun’s gentle heat felt good against her fair skin. She stopped a moment to stretch, and continued to remove the top, tossing it onto her bed. Kuu then began sliding off her pyjama bottoms, dropping them to the floor, and kicking them aside and off of her ankles. Young Kuu then stood nude, alone in her bedroom. She took another quick moment to stretch again.
Suddenly, there was a loud knock on Kuu’s bedroom door. Kuu jumped a little, her heart skipping a beat, and she ran quickly to grab her bed sheets to wrap around herself. It was a good thing, too, because Kana came right in after knocking, without permission to enter. “Oh, good! You’re up, Kuu. Make sure not to skip breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day, you know!” said Kana, sounding almost like a mother. Kuu, completely nude yet covered by her bed’s blankets, heard her own heart pounding in her chest. Kuu nodded to Kana. “I’ll be there in a bit. Go ahead of me”, she said. “Alright, then,” Kana said See you there,” Kana said, turning off to leave the room. Kana paused just before she left, and turned her head back a bit. Kuu didn’t notice, but Kana was eyeing what little bare skin she could see on Kuu… Just her shoulders and the very top of her chest. Kana smirked. “And by the way, Kuu…” Kana said, pausing “You’re looking good, these days,” she remarked. Kana then left the room, closing the door behind her. Kuu stood there, blinking, wondering what to think of what Kana had just said… She then scrambled to grab her clothes, and quickly got dressed, before anyone else found her nude.
