A Few Days Ago
Title: A few days ago
Disclaimer: I dont own Gravi or any of the characters in the anime or manga... There I said it, are ya happy now? Huh? PUNK!
Yuki crept slowly up to where Shuichi lay. He looked completely at peace, lying there, with his eyes closed and his head resting on the white satin pillow. Yuki took a few more paces forward, quietly, although he knew his footsteps wouldn’t wake the singer. He looked down and brushed a few strands of soft pink hair away from Shuichi’s eyes.
Yuki slightly caressed Shuichi’s cheek with the backs of his fingers. He wished he would open his big eyes and look at Yuki in that way that made him feel perfect. Like nothing in the world was more meaningful than him.
Looking down to the small hands he caught a glimpse of the golden band. The one Yuki had given him only a few days earlier.
This ring was more than a symbol of love or devotion, it represented Yuki’s trust, faith and complete surrender to his feelings. He was no longer going to be the cold, empty author of romance novels. He was going to accept Shuichi. Not only as his partner and lover, but as his shoulder to cry on, his secret keeper, his inspiration and, most importantly, his best friend.
Ever since Shuichi barged into his life, Yuki had found it increasingly difficult to maintain his emotionless shell. And even harder keeping Shuichi out.
He had almost forcefully stripped Yuki down to the core, until his very being and texture had been laid out in front of Shuichi’s searching eyes. And instead of tearing him into pieces, Shuichi tenderly embraced and coaxed every little painful memory out of Yuki’s mind, and purging it. He showed compassion and understanding rather than pity.
Then, something happened. Yuki felt somewhere in his heart, that there was a presence, one that had not been there before. After that he smiled, unquestionable and genuine, a smile only meant for Shuichi.
Yuki had been contemplating when, where and how to give Shuichi the ring, and finally decided on going back to the place they first met. Shuichi never suspected a thing as they walked through the park, heading for the movies. Suddenly, Yuki stopped dead in his tracks and waited for Shuichi to realize that he was talking into thin air. Ceasing his steps, the pink haired singer turned, and looked confusedly at his koibito.
“Oro? Yuki? Why did you stop?”
Yuki simply turned, walked towards a bench, and sat down as Shuichi followed. Snubbing out his cigarette on the pavement and turned to the teen.
“Close your eyes.” He said, lacing his voice with promises.
Shuichi looked questioningly at the blonde but did as he was told.
“Hold out your hands.” He asked for both just so he wouldn’t arouse any suspicion by asking specifically for the left.
Shuichi looked impossibly cute, his eyes closed and a big goofy grin was plastered on his face. He knew that he was getting something and presents from Yuki were rare.
The author quicky fished around in his pocket and pulled out a little velvet box. Shuichi began to squirm as he heard Yuki shifting. The novelist silently opened the tiny box (after making sure Shuichi wasn’t peeking) and pulled out the band he had spent weeks looking for. He silently slipped it on to Shuichi’s left ring finger and mentally complimented himself for picking the perfect size. He put Shuichi’s hands back on his knees and looked into the singers face.
Shuichi looked confused, then surprised, then confused again. He slowly opened his violet orbs and looked at Yuki, Yuki just looked back at him and arched an eyebrow. After peering down at his hand he shrieked and lunged at the blonde, hugging him around the shoulders while taking a better look at his new promise ring from behind Yuki’s neck.
Tears of happiness rolled down the singers face as Yuki whispers the words he been longing to hear for months. After a few moments, and overly joyous giggling, Yuki said, “I thought it would be a good idea to come back to the place we first met so we could meet again.” Shuichi understood and happily agreed.
But that had all been a few days ago.
Everything since then had seemed to happen beyond the recognition of time. The author noticed little differences: like the happiness that washed over him in a raging tide, the warmth that he thought would burn at the touch, but instead caressed his heart with delicate flames, the inspiration that spiraled into a thread of perfectly placed words that ebbed into his mind, and the crushing weight of his past that was being lifted off his conscience.
Then silence. Everything went quiet for Yuki. The sounds of Shuichi, in the blink of an eye, faded out of his life and existed only in his mind.
The voice that had once sparked a passion in Yuki’s heart, disappeared, leaving an insatiable emptiness. Not even the sound of beeping and rasped breathing could console him now. There was just nothing, and Shuichi, laying there with his satin pillow, his hands crossed on his chest with his eyes closed.
As tears sprung up into Yuki’s eyes, he whispered one last time the words he should have said months ago, then turned away as the top was closed, blocking out the sun’s rays forever.
Yuki stayed until the end, when white flowers had being placed, and wondrous words had been spoken. Yuki still stayed, until the earth was burdened with the soulless case of the one who held his heart. Yuki was still there when the sun began to go down, the last sun set he would ever see, when the earth had accepted his shed tears and exposure. Even after the sound of his own sorrow had neglected him, he stayed, unable to let go of the person who gave him back his life a few days before he lost his own.
A/N I know, I know, I should have told you it was a death fic in the summary, but that would have killed the mood of the story, so to speak. Anyway, This is my first and only gravi fic, R&R and tell me what you think. Opinions and constructive criticism is the authors feedback.
