She leaned up against the window,
The rain was clouding her vision
She never knew that Time could pass so slow
Everything that was faded had been rewritten.

Chapter One-

“Maria? Maria…”

The house was in an uproar; they had come to take her. Them, the ones that plagued her dreams for moths on end, they were here and they wanted her. Her name was being called but there was no answer, no answer came from this Maria. Even the heavens wondered where she had gone, the beautiful maiden with the name of a beautiful saint, Maria. They continued to call her name. There was no answer.

When they had come, furniture was thrown everywhere, the Family Tree that was kept in a glass cabinet was destroyed, and all the family names of this family had been lost. It had been passed down from generation to generation. Now it was gone. The couches that were hand made were ripped and torn, the windows were shattered and every table in the house had been up turned. It was as though a huge gust of wind had entered this home and unbalanced everything.

“…Maria, Maria?”

Her name was called again and again, and still there was no answer. They had failed to protect her. Maria. Failed.

She knew what they were getting into when they swore they would protect their daughter, she knew. She even warned her husband, but he would do anything to keep her alive, he would die to protect her from them. He had to, she had to escape somehow, leave for another country and stay there until he would meet her again. But he failed. He failed the church, he failed his wife, he failed his daughter…he failed himself. How could he have done this? Why had he been so stupid to even take on this burden? She was his daughter, his only child, but why? Why was he blinded by his own righteousness to question what he had done? Her name ringed in his ears as he could still hear the gunshots. He could still hear them as though they were here and actually firing their guns. He would not give up.

Somehow he would find Maria, tell her everything, and give her the things she needed to escape. She would need his help. She couldn’t leave without him telling her what to do. But there was that boy she met at the market. He had come here to do some research, he even asked him for questions on where to find the church, and he had given him the directions. After he had met Maria, they were always together. They went to see movies; they took long strolls in parks and had ice cream on the way home. What was it that attracted her to him? He wasn’t from Italy, no his name suggested that he was from another country, not even from Europe. He said he was here to do research, what a pathetic liar. He could tell.

-Flashback-

“When will I see you again?”

“Perhaps tomorrow…”

“Why do you sound so uncertain? Is there somewhere you have to go? Are you meeting anyone?”

“No, I am meeting no one. Go inside and sleep, I am taking you to a special place tomorrow.”

“Really? Tell me where it is and I will listen.”

“I can’t it is a surprise…”

“Please?”

“No, besides, what good will it do if I ruin it for you?”

“Then when you show me, I’ll act surprised. Maybe I have never seen this place before.”

“…No, now go inside and get some rest….”

“Alright then, good night…”

“Good night Maria.”

-End Flashback-

A surprise was it? How come when she came home, she was upset? He wondered if there was any surprise after all. When he had asked what was wrong, she had begun to cry. If that boy had done something to her, he would kill him. Never touch his Maria, he would see to it. And still after a year, she would not tell him what that boy had done. He wondered.

The candles were burning low.

He would need to make sure they stayed lit until tomorrow; they were running out of candles. Another reason to go to the market. But before that, he would go and visit his wife. He had not seen her for a long time, he began to miss her.

He loved his wife. She was his exact opposite, and yet they were perfect for each other. The way her lips pursed when she would get angry when he came home to late from church. Even the way she would drink her tea, not making a sound when she drank, even the way when she told Maria to go get washed up before dinner. He loved her smile; it would start off small and then work its way up until she was beaming. Almost like a sunflower. And her eyes, her eyes reminded him of dark chocolate. He was so absorbed by her eyes that he felt like he was going to melt. Even age showed no boundaries when it came to her eyes. They never did fade.

“You are still the same…”

The front doors opened, he was suddenly rushed out of his thoughts. Another door had opened, someone spoke this time.

“….Forgive me Father, for I have sinned….”

A/N- One chapter down…don’t know how many to go. Anyways, on a more happier note…-- --, ok then there is not a more happier note. This chapter was slightly AU, because I don’t think that’s what happened to Maria, and if you didn’t guess who the man was, well then, NOOBS! I am not going to tell you. So HAH!
