Legend of Wolf Falls
Legend of Wolf Falls
Chapter 1
The air smelt syrupy with the natural perfumes of nature. The pine mixed in with the natural aroma of wild flowers. Soft natural mists from the river filled the small camp as a small group of girls worked away not far away. Some were picking up small sticks of wood while others were putting together poles that were to go in the large tent they were sitting up. Others were putting a bundle of food into a cooler. All of them were busy working away.
The day was early, and everyone was getting all set up and ready for their adventure. A week long camping trip in the woods, an all-natural camping ground with the true meaning of camping. The place was Wolf Falls a park full of wolves. Some wolves were rumored to come near camps, but it was rare that they attacked humans.
Sakura stretched before her and her best friend pulled tent up over the skeleton of the tent. It was a heavy green, and camouflaged in with the surroundings fairly well. When they finished, they placed all the baggage in different places in the tent. They high five and went to join the others. They cheered as they all found out they were done setting up camp.
“Tent is up, we got fire wood and have our bags in the tent. Food is in the tent,” Sakura listed off everything that had to be done to set up camp.
“Fishing poles are ready,” Rika showed the girls the buckets of bait and the bundles of poles.
“We’ll need to go down river to fish,” Chiharu explained. “It’s too rough here.”
They followed that Chiharu told them. She had done a lot more fishing in the wild then themselves. They simply followed the river until they were in a calm and soothing area. Sitting at separate ends Sakura found herself sitting on a large rock sitting Indian style with her fishing rod in the water. Tomoyo was a few feet to her left and Naoko was sitting beside her on her right.
“You may not believe this but I’ve never fished before,” Tomoyo tangled with her line.
“I believe it,” Rika laughed before she went over to help Tomoyo out.
Sakura set her fishing rod down in her legs as she took out a book. She flipped through the pages and found her place and began to read. She was only half a page down when she she heard her friends talking among themselves. She looked away from her page to see what they were referring to. They were giggling and speaking about her.
“Good lord Sakura, can\'t you ever go anywhere without reading one of those romance novels,” Chiharu said.
“Aw, come on Sakura just wants to fantasize about what it would be like to have a boyfriend who isn\'t a total prick,” Tomoyo added.
Sakura sighed deeply as she put her book away back in her bag. It wasn\'t her fault she had such a lack of romance in her system. She didn\'t have much of a love life, mostly because she always chose such a jerk as someone to date. Drawing her attention back to her fishing rod she heard Rika suddenly back up and gave a little scream in surprise. Everyone turned to her, she pointed directly across the river. Sakura stood so she could see what her friend saw. Just sitting across the river a wolf drank from the cool river.
His fur was very different from other wolves Sakura had seen before. It\'s fur from it\'s throat and up was a darkly tan color, as was his paws. His torso was a pure white, while the remaining part of his body was black. She was more then just sure that such a color of fur was somehow...unnatural.
“Wow,” Sakura gasped.
Sakura found her eyes drawn to the wolf in an unexplained daze. She felt so strange just staring at it. Like it was a dream. The wolf was unlike anything she had ever seen. All wolves she had seen were in the zoo, locked down and rehabilitated into the human world. This wolf was wild and free.
“He\'s beautiful,” Tomoyo took out her camera slowly and began to film the wild animal.
Rika held onto Naoko. She was always nervous around animals that could hurt her without a question asked. Naoko reassured her that she\'d be save. The others watched amazed at the creature. It finished drinking and looked up at the girl\'s. Tomoyo cheered in excitement as she zoomed in on the creature.
It stretched as it turned to leave. It stopped for a second and stared in Sakura\'s direction. Everyone turned to look at Sakura. She stared at the creature in return. Something unusual then happened. He bowed. Sakura bowed her head in return. She didn\'t know why she did it, she just did it automatically. It quickly vanished into the woods.
Sakura snapped out of the gaze that held her attention for the last several minutes. She returned the stare back at her friends. They stared at her unsure what to think about what had happened. Tomoyo put her camera down, and Rika let go of Naoko.
“Sakura, what just happened?” Rika asked as she stepped forward towards her friend.
Sakura stared at the forest as if looking for the answer to her friends question. She bowed her head low in disappointment. “I don\'t know.”
