Second Chance
The sky darkened, an ominious warning of events to come. Silence was all that was
heard. The only presence came from a single young man who stood on the balcony of his
great castle. His eyes scanning the horizen, his ebony hair blowing fierclt in the wind.
War was apon them. Something that should have been forseen and prevented. Shibuya
Yuuri the great Maou had always strived for peace. He had always thought if he tried hard
enough he could keep war from his lands, but that was a naive dream. A dream from his
early years as the Maou, when he was still being taught the basics by Gunter, back when
he thought that talking thing out solved everything.
A grim smile crossed his face, yes it was truly a foolish dream.
It had been four years of peace since Soushi had been destroyed. Yuuri had always known
somewhere in the datk reaches of his heart that the peace would not last, and now that he
stood in the midst of a war all he could hope for was a quik end , and the saft return of his
friends.
Despite his pleas they had left him, Konrad, Gwendal, and even Wolfram. They had left
for him, they said they had a duty to protect him and their country, but that didn’t matter
to Yuuri.
What good would it do to die out there? Did they ever think how that would make him
feel. If the had to die then they should die together.
“Heika...”
Yuuir turned to see the ex-maou herself enter onto the balcony. She came and settled next
to him. Her eyes scanning the horizen as if looking for some glimmer of hope within the
vast emptyness.
“Don’t worry yourself. My sons will come back to us. They always have, and with them
they shall bring you victory.” She smiled at Yuuri and for the first time he saw that same
forced smile that he had seen so many times before on Konrads, another small reminder
that they were indeed family.
Yet Yuuri saw beneath the smile and into the very heart of what he truly felt. She was
terrified for her sons lives and Yuuri didn’t blame her, he felt the same way.
Hoping her words would ring true, he excused himself and headed towards his room. He
would be sure they returned safely, even if he would have to bring them back himself.

Yuuri rushed about his room, trying to be as quiet as possible. The moon shone brightly
through the window as it watched the rooms occupent. .
He dreesed quickly enough and was soon searching for his sword. He was going to bring
them back, all of them and hopefully bring this war to an end, after all it was his falt for
letting it start in the first place. Yuuir sighed looking back on that day. Shaking his head
he marched out his door and into the dark and desolute hallway. It looked as if it had been
taken straight from some hollywood horror movie. A shiver ran down his spine at the
thought, but this was no time to turn chicken.
He soon reached the gaint oak doors that lead to the main court yard and the large
entrance gate. But he did not head towards the gates, instead he headed towards the
stables. He had debated weather to go on foot or on horse back. He had come to the
decision to ride horseback since that was the most logical and quickest thing to do.
He entered the stalls quiet as a mouse, but jumped and squeaked when a soft muzzle
bumped him in the back. Turning around he saw his horse, Ao, staning behind him
comfortably in his stall.
Yuuri wasted no time in saddling the black gelding, and they where soon off, galloping
through the gates and onto the lony road. he did not dare look back for if he did he felt as
if he would be compeled to stay. So instead he urged forward not knowing that he would
never lay return to the castle again.

Wolfram watched the storm clouds roll in as he wipped the dirt and sweat from off his
brow. The battle had been going well for them. They had been able to push the advancing
troops back and if all went well he would be home by the end of the week. That thought
alone made Wolfram happy, soon he would beable to she that wimpy smile he missed so
much. He missed Yuuri terribally, and only wished to see him again, but those thoughts
would have to wait as an enimy soilder can his way, brandishing a heavy sword.
Wolfram easily avoided it, piercing his attacker’s flesh with the point of his own sword. It
made a sickening sound, that Wolfram had grown acustomed to in the past few days, as it
met it’s target sending the man to fall back on the cold hard ground.
Wolfram withdrew the sword, its blade stained with the blood of those he had killed. So
many lives had been lost and the man that lay before him was just another victim of war.
Wolfram was now seeing the pointlessness of it. Yuuri had been right, war was foolish.
The blond walked away leaving the man to die alone in the morning sun.
But he stopped only moments later, his ears picking up a horse coming nearer. At first he
thought it to be one of his brothers, but when he finally caught sight of it coming over a
hill he knew that it was not. The rider was to small about the same size as himself and he
had short black... his thought was cut off as his heart skiped a beat.
“Yuuri” he yelled at the young king who was now galloping towards him.
“Wolfram, your alright.” Yuuri asked, relief washing over him. “I was so worried that you
would be dead.”
Wolfram gave him an irritaded look. “You think mere humans can kill me.” he scoffed.
“But more inportantly wait in shinou’s name do you think your doing coming here?” He
glared at the young kings face. He was happy to see him, but at least he was safe back at
the castle. “Do you even know how dangerous it is for you here?”
“I know, but I wanted to help. I couldn’t live with myself if you die..” he was never able
to finish that sentence. While they had be querraling an enemy soilder had been steadily
sneaking up behind Wolfram.
Yuuri had only cuaght sight of him as he made his way to attack. It all happened so
quicky that Yuuri didn’t even register the fact that he was moving until he felt it. The cold
hard metal being forced into him. The shear pain exploding from the spot in his chest
where the blood now flowed freely and the horrified cry of Wolfram as his body hit the
damp ground.
In that instant he had flung himself from his horse inorder to save Wolfram. And as his
vision began to blur he saw the blond merciliosly slay the attacker before coming to his
side.
“Yuuri you idiot. What the hell were you thinking.” Wolfram chocked back a sob as he
began to cry. His tears streaming freely down his handsome features.
“I ... wanted to... pro... protect you...” He tried to say as he coughed up blood.
“O gods Yuuri don’t die. Please don’t die. You can’t...” Wolfram pleaded with all his
heart. It was all he could do and he knew it. Yuuri was pasted saving. By the looks of
things the sword had punchered his heart. Yuuri’s time was limited, that thought alone cut
Wolfram to the kwik. Yuuri was going to die, alone and with out him. He would never
see that wimpy smile again. Unless...
Wolfram picked up his sword, a sad smile on his face as he look down at Yuuri’s pale
face.
“I won’t let you die alone.” was all he said as he placed a gental kiss on his kings
forehead. Feeling how cold it had grown. “ Let my soul protect you always, in this life
and the next.” He whispered before driving his sword into his own heart.
“Wolfram no... I love...” Yuuri tried to scream but found that he had no voice, and soon
all is vision was gone as his soul left him.
Wolfram layed next to him, his own life slipping away. Their blood mixing in the dirt and
mud as the the heavens opened up, letting the rain fall. It was almost as if nature itself
was weeping.
It did not taken long for the others find their bodies. It was a shock to both Gwendal and
Konrad to find them there laying dead in each others arms. On that day they had not only
lost a king and a brother, but they had also lost a part of themselves.
o0o
A girl soon woke from her nightmare. Beads of sweat dripped from her face as she panted
for breath. She had been having the same dreams over and over again. Each on more
vivid than the last. But this one had been the worst. How sad it had been, even she could
not stop the tears from welling up in her eyes as she settled back into her bed, hoping that
she could sleeping soundly till morning.
