This is my first attempt at an Asuka Rei pairing. This story may be a bit fast, but I wanted it that way,

Asuka had always been an abrasive person; she had pushed away nearly everyone to keep up her act of not needing anyone.
But when she first met Rei Ayanami she had been intrigued with the girl, not that she would have ever admitted it.
So after school one day she decided to find out more about the reclusive First Child.
As she followed her to her apartment she remembered a conversation she had with Misato after she had killed the eighth angel.
Asuka and Misato sat in the women’s side of the hot spring. They had just teased Shinji and enjoyed a good laugh.
Asuka turns to the older woman to say something when she notices a huge scar running down her side
“The scar”
Asuka hadn’t noticed Misato had seen her looking at it
“I got it during the second impact, I was there”
The younger girl just nodded, and then decided to ask
“You know about my past, about everything don’t you”
“Its part of your file, listen, its all in the past, don’t dwell on it”
Asuka remained silent for a moment then lowered her voice to a whisper and continued
“You know about me and her to don’t you”
Misato turned to look at her and also began to whisper
“Who”
Asuka could see in her eyes that she knew exactly who she meant but wanted to hear her say it
“Alexandra”
Misato nodded
“Section 2 reported you spent nearly all of your time with her and that you held hands in public, I just put two and two together, did you love her”
“You’ll just tease me”
Misato put her hand on the younger girls shoulder, her expression sincere
“No I won’t, tell you what; I’ll trade you a secret ok”
Asuka nodded
“Yes, I loved her”
“What happened with you two?”
“When I left she told me that if I find some one here she wouldn’t hold me to anything, so we broke up”
“I’m sorry”
Asuka sighed
“It’s alright, so what is this secret about you”
Misato smiled and blushed
“Well let’s just say I’m not exactly unknowing about that kind of stuff”
Asuka tilted her head
“Really, you to”
“Kind of, I experimented a bit in collage”
Asuka smirked
“Who was it?”
Misato looked down and blushed
“Ritsuko”
Asuka was shocked, but kept her voice down
“Are you serious, you and Dr Akagi”
“Yeah, but you can’t tell anyone alright”
“Then you better not say anything about Alexandra either”
“I won’t, girls honor”

Asuka had followed Rei all the way to her apartment, she held back for a few moments after Rei went inside.
Then she walked up to the door and put her ear against it. She heard sniffles and what sounded like…crying.
She cracked the door slightly and looked in. The apartment was derelict at best, how Rei could live like that, she didn’t know.
As she looked further there sat Rei, on her bed, with a knife in her right hand, the blade against her left wrist.
Asuka could tell what Rei was about to do
“Oh hell no”
She rushed in and grabbed Rei’s right wrist and jerked the knife away from her
“What the hell are you doing Wonder Girl?”
Then Asuka noticed something she had never seen before, Rei was crying. She answered her between sobs
“I was…planning to…end my life”
Now Asuka was mad
“Why the hell would you want to do that?”
“I am…not loved by anyone”
Rei was still crying, Asuka hated it when people cried. She calmed herself before she spoke again
“What about the commander, you’re his favorite aren’t you”
That made Rei was crying even harder
“No…I am…just a…tool to him…a means to an end…I am as you have said…just a doll…I don’t want to be anymore…I just want to die”
Asuka just shook her head, she couldn’t think of anything else to do, so she sat beside of Rei and wrapped her arms around the girl
“Shh it’s going to be alright Rei, I’m here now. You don’t want to be his doll anymore, I’ll show you how not to be, but you got to drop this wanting to die crap”
Rei looked up at her, their eyes met, Rei’s eyes still full of tears but hopeful
“Will you”
Asuka smiled at Rei tenderly, she had never felt like this. She dropped her normal act and decided to see what would happen. After all, this was Rei; she would never hurt her intentionally
“Yeah, I will”
She pulled Rei closer to her. Old feelings were stirring in her, feelings last shared with a certain girl back in Germany. The pair continued to stare into each others eyes. Slowly they came closer together, until their lips met
Rei had never felt this way before; Asuka’s lips were warm and soft. She craved the sensation this was causing, she also liked being this close to the second child and didn’t want her to ever go.
Asuka knew this feeling, the kiss broke the final block, she loved Rei. Before, thinking of the blue haired girl made had excited, she thought it was just because she was a mystery, a challenge to her, but now she knew.
Asuka pulled back slowly, she looked into Rei’s eyes for a moment a slight blush on both of their faces
“Rei I…”
“You do not need to say anything, Asuka”
The red head was taken back a bit
“What did you call me?”
“I called you Asuka, have I offended you”
“No of course not, I don’t mind”
Rei smiled a bit and blushed
“Thank you, did you mean that”
“What”
“The kiss”
“Well, it was spur of the moment”
Rei’s expression became downcast, Asuka didn’t even know Rei knew what emotions were, now she was basically asking if she loved her. But she had meant it
“Yes”
Rei was a bit shocked, Asuka had meant it
“Then do you…like me”
Asuka thought about it, all of the things they had been through so far, she smiled as she thought about it
“Yeah, I guess I do”
Rei tilted her head to the side
“Romantically”
Asuka blushed
“Yeah…”
Rei didn’t let her finish, instead she quickly and firmly pressed her lips back to Asuka’s. Asuka’s mind was on fire, Rei wanted this, and she wanted to be with her even after all the crap she had put her through. Rei kept up the pace of her kiss; normally she would never show her emotions at all, Gendo had said she didn’t need to. But now, she didn’t care. Some one cared about her and that was enough.
Asuka slowly pulled back from Rei to catch her breath. Rei just rested her head on Asuka’s shoulder
“Would you stay with me for a while Asuka”
Asuka smiled
“Sure, you know we should probably keep this a secret for a while. Most people wouldn’t approve of two girls dating each other”
“The commander most defiantly would not, what of the major”
“She won’t care; I don’t think Shinji will either”
Rei just snuggled a bit closer to Asuka
“Rei”
“Yes Asuka”
“Do you want to come back to Misato’s place for dinner?”
“I would…like that”
“Well let’s get up and get you dressed then”
The pair sat up, Asuka walked over to Rei’s closet and slid the door open. To her horror all the clothes Rei owned were a few school uniforms, there was only one thing Asuka could do
“Come on Rei were going shopping”
“Why”
“You need more clothes than this, how can you only where school uniforms all the time”
“They are comfortable, that is the only reason”
“Well you know there are other clothes out there that are comfortable and still look good right”
“I suppose so”

The impromptu shopping trip went about as Asuka had expected, Rei had no clue what to do, that was alright she would fix that. She managed to convince Rei to buy a few things, some shirts, skits and a cute blue sundress that looked like her yellow one, except of course it was blue.
They returned to Rei’s apartment and put away her new wardrobe. Rei then dressed in her new blue sundress and followed Asuka toward Misato’s apartment.
Along the way Asuka slowly began to inch closer to Rei with every step and then slipped her hand into Rei’s. Rei smiled and squeezed her hand gently. Though they drew a few looks, neither cared. Most assumed they were sisters or perhaps close childhood friends. Their hearts however told a different story.

Asuka and Rei dated for a few weeks under the guise sync training; finally one night they made a mistake, they were lying on the couch making out. Unfortunately it was at that point that Misato and Shinji walked in. the two groups just sat staring at each other for a while. Asuka and Rei in their Bras and panties, Asuka’s hand clasping Rei’s right Breast underneath her bra. Misato then smiled
“Well, it’s about time you two found someone”
She then walked off to her room, uttering something about calling Ritsuko. Shinji just stood there for a second
“…you two are together…”
They both blushed and nodded, Asuka spoke up
“You better not say anything third…I swear if you do I’ll…”
Shinji cut her off, he smiled a bit. Both girls could tell it was forced
“I think its good…at least your both happy”
Shinji then went to his room, not noticing that Asuka and Rei had seen the look of utter depression on his face. The two girls looked at each other and then got up to follow him. They opened his door to find the boy crying on his bed, neither said anything as the walked over to his bed and sat down on either side of it. Rei put her hand on his shoulder and he looked up. She drew him into her arms and held him as he cried. He fell asleep a while later and the two girls got him into bed and then crawled in beside of him.
Shinji was feeling better about everything the next morning, knowing the two girls still care for him even though they were with one another.

One night a few weeks later, Shinji had stayed at Toji’s with him and Kensuke, Misato was working a late shift so the girls had the apartment all to themselves. Everyone at Nerv had caught wind of the girl’s relationship. Well the command crew who had constant access to them did. Maya thought it was cute and most of the others supported them. Commander Ikari had no opinion; he wouldn’t as he had been killed by a berserker unit 00 a week after the girls had gotten together. Shinji had actually begun to pursue dating Hikari after Toji and Asuka had given their blessing and had actually taken her out a few times.
The two girls were laying on the couch together, Rei resting in Asuka’s arms, watching a romance movie when it came to a rather sexy scene where the main couple was making love to each other. Asuka began to feel bold, she softly kissed the back of Rei’s neck and slid her hand beneath the girls tank top and took right breast into her hand. Rei melted back into Asuka’s arms and allowed the red head to do whatever she wanted to her. Asuka decided to go even further and slid her hand down Rei’s body and into the shorts she was wearing for bed. Rei gasped as Asuka’s fingers found her womanhood and gently rubbed it. Asuka gently ran her middle finger up Rei’s slit and then back down again. Rei was wet; Asuka’s fingers were coated with her. Asuka smirked

With Asuka’s help Rei had gotten a good grasp on emotions but still kept them to herself. In one of her rare emotional displays, which only Asuka and Shinji had ever witnessed, she wrapped her arms around Asuka’s neck and touched her nose to her lovers
“When ever you are my love”
Rei lowered he lips to Asuka’s in a passionate kiss. She rolled on top of the girl and placed one of her legs between Asuka’s and Asuka put one of her legs between Rei’s. Rei began to buck her hips, their legs gliding over the others womanhood. Between gasps Asuka managed to squeak out
“Not here…my room…my bed…”
Rei caught her breath and nodded, she smiled down at her lover
“As you wish”
Rei helped Asuka up and led her to her room. They made love long into the night, finally falling asleep in each other’s arms after 3 hours and 4 orgasms a piece.
Yes eventually everyone found out about their relationship and yes they did catch some flack from people, but their friends always came to their aid.

A few years later Shinji and Hikari married before heading off to Tokyo 3 University. They stayed in the city with their friends and Hikari gave birth to a baby girl during their junior year, named Yui.
Asuka and Rei stayed together, their love for each other, only growing as the years went on. Eventually, while Rei was in collage with the others, they moved in together, and though they never married, their love was no less strong, nor their commitment to one another.
