Chapter One: Prologue

*Yu Yu Hakusho*

Toshibi almost wept in glee seeing his targets gathering on the small blanket. Wonderful, this couldn’t be more perfect. In one leap he’d have narrowed down his margin even more. His eyes lingered over the original female. His body responded as she bent over to place the basket on the crisp white blanket. Very nice, he was tempted to go against orders but would a moment’s lust be worth dying for? He didn’t believe so, he’d rather make his request after he’d taken the girl back. They were supposed to find fifty more eligible females. He’d just landed three in one absorption. The sooner he finished the sooner her could return home. He didn’t like being away from his sister that long.

The tall brunette laughed at something the girl with teal hair said. Such prime specimens, so close and ripe for the taking. He took the stone out of his pocket and crouched behind the tree. First complete his mission then worry about who’d end up with the girl. His sister was roaming the city looking for possible male candidates. He really didn’t trust her judgement. The stone began to glow as he prepared for the perfect time to strike.

“Really Shizuru, it’s not really like that.” Yukina was horrified at the mental image. Did people really do things like that? She’d made the mistake to ask about the movie Kuzuma and Yusuke had rented over the weekend. That was too much information for her delicate ears. It was disgusting. She wasn’t as naive and simple minded as people liked to believe. Her friends knew this but she kept it from the males and mostly her brother. “Wouldn’t that hurt, I mean that many males at once?”

“I wouldn’t know, I’ve heard that two are nice but I couldn’t tell you from experience.” Shizuru lit a cigarette and laughed at the expression. The koorime knew about sex, her having a little hand in it. “I still think Keiko should have tried out Yusuke before she dumped him. He looks like he’d be wild in the sack. Don’t you ever regret not trying it first? Hell if he’d watch that he’d probably let you bring another man in the bed. You know how rare that is?”

“Shizuru! Please, it was a mutual agreement. We are better off as friends, no need to complicate the matter by getting intimate. Besides I want my first time to be special. Passionate, gentle but wild. I’d like to explore sure but it just has to be right. You have no room to talk, you’re still a virgin and you’re older than me.” Keiko took out a can of soft drink. She was ready to experience sex she just didn’t want it to be with Yusuke. Shizuru had dumped poor Kurama and broken the guy’s heart. Something about him trying to hard to please his human mother. “You should have done Kurama first, with all those plants imagine what you could have done.”

“Whatever, I didn’t feel like asking his mother for permission. Excuse me Shiori do you mind if I suck your son’s cock.” She snickered as Yukina gasped and Keiko snorted. She still cared about Kurama but it had been too much for her, the double personality. She saw him as a virile ruthless male rarely, that’s what she wanted. Not the sweet innocent forgiving spineless Shuichi he put on for the sake of his human mother. Was it just an act? Part of her believed so but she wasn’t him. She wanted a man that was wild, spontaneous, and rough.

“You can suck on them?” Yukina let the question slip without fail. She was still learning new things. The two girls proved to be a fountain of information most of the time. “But I’ve seen the picture on that movie they rented. Some of those things were huge how could you suck on that? Wouldn’t a girl choke? A man might want his pleasure but at the cost of his mate’s life? It’s not funny, I think it’s horrible. Would you shove something like that down your throat?” She directed the question towards Keiko.

“Um, it’s not like that. Yusuke isn’t exactly small, we didn’t go all the way but we did mess around. I’ve gone down on him several times actually. There’s a way to do it so you don’t choke, you relax your throat muscles. If I had to guess Yusuke has at least eight inches and he’s kind of wide so I had to work on it. The only time you choke is when the guy gets excited and shoves it down your throat when you aren’t ready for it.” Keiko took a sip of the drink as Yukina took in the newest piece of information. “You ever done it Shiz?”

“None of your damn business girl. I’m not telling you, next you’ll be asking if Kurama was any good at eating pussy. We won’t go there today, I have to go home alone and I’m out of batteries.” She blew some smoke out and glanced around. The hairs stood up on her neck. Was someone out there? It was a local park so the chances were great. A few other people were picnicking not far away. That wasn’t what had suddenly caught her attention. “Do you sense anything Yukina?”

“No why? Is something wrong Shizuru? I’m a little warm but I feel fine.” She looked around to see what was there. Nothing but foliage was seen in the distance. They were close to the forest, wanting to stay away from crowds. With the subjects that usually sprang up it was best to stay away from other people. She didn’t think Hiei would come today to check up on her. He was still in the Makai training with Mukuro.

Keiko didn’t sense anything but that wasn’t out of place. She wasn’t aware like Shizuru or a youkai like Yukina. The wind was blowing a pleasant breeze, everything seemed great to her. She enjoyed spending time with her friends. “Maybe you need to get laid. Heh, you’re getting paranoid in your old age.” She smirked at the implied insult. Shizuru tossed half of the untouched sandwich at her chest. Said abused food was snatched off the blanket and tossed back. Fear made her scream as the bread hit air before sailing through where their friend had been. She turned hearing Yukina’s quick gasp. The koorime was suddenly gone as well, then she blinked. Darkness came, leaving no trace of the girls.

Yusuke was able to hit the tree with enough force to send it crashing to the ground. It didn’t help his aggravation, he wanted to hit it again. Keiko was spending the day with the girls so that left him no one to talk to. He needed to complain to someone or he’d end up kicking someone’s ass. He could think of a few people he’d like to pound into the ground. His boss was one of them, the main one right now. He’d be lucky if he had a job to go back to. Another reason for his mother to bitch at him. It wasn’t his fault his boss had come on to him.

Not that he had something against people that swung that way. Hell he’d watched a few of the porn videos containing yaoi. He couldn’t say that it left him feeling queasy as it did some males. He preferred to stare at a pussy but he wasn’t going to condemn anyone that found pleasure with the same sex. It just pissed him off when his boss that was thirty years old and uglier than elder Tuguro hit on him. The man had called him into the office to speak. Yusuke had figured it was about coming in late last week. Instead the man had complimented him on the job he was doing. An unwanted hand had touched lightly over his shoulder, too friendly. He tried to ignore it but feeling warm breath on his ears had made him flip. If he wanted to fuck a male he’d pick someone like Kurama, at least the fox was nice looking. His boss was too thin, had a bad complexion problem and over large teeth.

He’d told the man to fucking lay off and stormed out. He’d be fired soon, he knew it. He needed this job to pay the bills. It would be so easy to leave it all behind. His mother was gone, having found a lush to shack up with. Fine, she seemed to be happy now. Him and Keiko were no longer together so he had to make a new life for himself. He just didn’t want to leave his friends yet and return to the Makai.

When would he do something right? He sat down on the fallen tree trunk, letting the cool breeze caress his heated skin. He wondered what time Keiko would get home tonight. Knowing Shizuru the woman would keep his ex out all night. Just what the hell did they do all that time besides gossip? He wasn’t sure if he wanted to know what they talked about. Especially with Hiei’s innocent sister there. The hybrid would freak if his sister came back to the temple asking about sex or parts of the male anatomy.

Oh hell, he might as well go home and fix himself a microwave dinner. Cardboard tasting meat would really hit the spot right about now. He stretched and yawned as the sun set in the distance. It was time to head on home, he’d slug his boss another day. He shifted his feet before standing up. His vision blurred, his gut was on fire. Darkness coated his eyelids, as he fell to the ground.

“Hn, and do you really think it is worth it?” Hiei didn’t move out of his spot in the large oak tree. The wind provided a gentle breeze, it was indeed a pleasant evening. Days like this actually made him enjoy the Ningenkai. Made checking up on Yukina bearable and less annoying. The noise was enough to give anyone with sensitive hearing a migraine. Especially as of late, his temper was on a short fuse. It wasn’t the fox’s fault but hearing the man complain was a good enough excuse to vent his own frustrations. If he had to listen to some bitching he might as well do his own.

“I am not sure but it is now out of my hands. She made her own choice, I could not make it for her. She has done what she thought best. Shizuru has always been a strong minded woman. I cannot change to appease everyone, I have to do what I deem necessary. It was nice while it lasted, I can’t expect anything.” Kurama listened to the leaves rustle as another strong breeze drifted between them. He did miss Shizuru but they weren’t working out. He greatly respected and cared for their friend’s sister. The relationship hadn’t gotten too serious, now he was glad for that. It would have made things harder if they’d became sexual. Shizuru was the type of woman that needed complete attention, that was something he couldn’t give her.

“Just spare me the sentimental crap. I’ve enough to deal with without hearing how you miss the woman you let slip through your fingers. Try having one hound you constantly.” Hiei snorted bringing up that sore subject. He loved the Makai, it was his home but he felt the need to leave often. Mukuro was becoming a thorn in his side. The woman was wanting more from him than he was willing to give. An occasional rut he could offer her but anything lasting and deeper was beyond his comprehension. He wanted to continue as he always had, alone.

“I doubt I am Mukuro’s type, since she has her sights set on you I am in the clear. Have you tried being honest? A simple ‘I don’t love you’, might suffice. It is never a good idea to lead a female on. Doing so to one like Mukuro could be bad for your health. You shouldn’t sleep with her if it’s nothing more. The woman has many emotional scars, tread lightly my friend.” Kurama was glad Shizuru was usually calm and collected. He didn’t have to worry about having his testicles removed by dimensional slicing.

“Hmph, I don’t need your advice Kurama. Why don’t you go tutor Urameshi or that fool Kuwabara. I can handle it. As soon as I see Yukina I’ll head back and set the woman straight. Perhaps you should have put Shizuru in line. Then she wouldn’t need to fill my sister’s head with rubbish.” Hiei had heard his sister talking to Genkai a month ago. She had wanted to know what a rim job was. He could only imagine where she’d picked up the term.

“I do not have a leash on her. Yukina is a grown woman, the sooner you accept that the better Hiei. You can’t protect her forever. She is no longer on the Koorime Island, she is living among humans now. If she takes after your mother then she too might find the urge to seek a man’s company. Best to accept things before they happen. She might be an innocent but she isn’t foolish.” Kurama smiled, his friend scowled. It was the truth even if Hiei didn’t want to admit it. Yukina was only bound to get curious, she had Kuwabara still trying to begin a relationship.

“I’ll pretend you didn’t just open your mouth.” Hiei scoffed at the audacity. There was no way in hell he would allow some fool like Kuwabara to bed his sister. She deserved better, he preferred her how she was. The first man that tried to take advantage of her would find themselves a one-way trip to the Reikai. He’d sworn to protect her, that meant even from those that would use her. He turned his head tiring of looking at the redhead. A nap would help ease some of his edginess. A content sigh escaped him and he closed his eyes. “Perhaps you should head back, or you will be late.” No smart reply came, “Kurama?”

Toshibi disconnected the telepathic link and swore. Sometimes he really hated his job but he wasn’t about to displease his master. The next target was going to be a pain in the ass to retrieve. All because she didn’t think the generals she had already were intelligent enough. He could fucking count and knew where to critically injure an opponent. He still didn’t understand why they had to go through with such drastic measures. This was taking time and effort, all for the perfect army. When would the woman see that it wasn’t how many you killed, it was who you killed? He pocketed the stones already collected. The females hadn’t known what hit them. He was about to set off to find his sister when the stones activated. “Where?”

The gathering place was getting occupied further but he couldn’t locate the source. It took certain qualifications for the stone to activate. The female had to be special and pure. Within every soul was a dormant amount of energy, most creatures didn’t know how to tap into that power. His queen would explain matters as soon as they’d harvested enough candidates. Somehow he doubted some of the creatures would be willing to assist willingly. A smile lit his face as movement caught his eye from above. The girl was trying to be careful, as not to be seen. Most of the humans didn’t notice as she landed off to the side. The transport device vanished as she straightened her clothing. This one was a looker also.

Botan fumed at arriving late. Koenma was being unfair lately, double assigning her. She felt the urge to slam her oar over his enlarged head. When had she jumped up and down exclaiming she’d take on more duties so Ayame could spend more time under the brat’s desk? She scowled seeing the blanket empty. Their belongings were there but where had they gone? If they’d gone for a walk then she’d just wait for them to return. She didn’t feel like looking for them. It’d give her a few extra minutes to calm down.

The girls didn’t deserve to deal with her foul mood. It wasn’t their fault that Koenma had decided he wanted to go wild after growing his first pube. Ayame was now his personal assistant, Botan had been kicked to the curb. And after all her years of loyal service. Just like that she’d been kicked back down to escort duty. So much for that nice promotion. Why lay out the red carpet just so he could yank it out from under her feet? All so that he could give that tart sucking lessons. Maybe if she’d opened up and said “Ah”, she would have been able to keep her position. Men! She was beginning to detest the lot of them, really.

“Where did they go?” Botan was sure they wouldn’t have just left everything. Even Keiko’s purse was sitting on the blanket. Now that was odd, the girl wouldn’t leave that sitting around. It had to be her friend’s and that was Shizuru’s cigarette case and lighter. The tall brunette would take them with her no matter where they went. She turned pink eyes to the crowd. Kids were running around screaming, parents told them to behave. Another couple was not too far away but were totally engrossed in one another. It made her stomach pinch as the guy sucked on the woman’s tongue, clearly visible. “Disgusting.”

She turned from the display. They needed to get a room. She couldn’t imagine a man making her that aroused. There was a time and place for everything. Fornicating in public shouldn’t be done. Total loss of control, how disturbing. The woman’s cry of pleasure made Botan turn in the opposite direction, she didn’t want to know. She blinked as the bushes moved, was someone watching her? Was it the girls playing a game? “I know you’re in there, come out now.” She lost the quick smile as a stranger emerged. The energy was all wrong for a youkai, even if the appearance fit. The man had long green hair, black eyes, had to be over seven feet and she felt her stomach dip. A stone glowed in his right hand, “Who?” The world went black.

*Get Backers*

“Oiu, I told you it was a bad idea.” Ban placed his cup on the counter. Another cup of coffee to add onto his ever growing tab. The door chimed and he bristled as another customer walked in. The man walked right by them but a shiver of awareness ran down his spine. He was sure he’d never seen the man before. Long raven hair trailed behind him on the floor. Even with the long strands something screamed odd about the man. His eyes narrowed and inspected him more closely. The male tilted his head and beamed a smile at Natsumi. His ears!

“Evening,” Natsumi grinned as the man flashed a toothy smile in her direction. He was cute and had beautiful hair. She had to do regular treatments to get her hair to look shiny. The thick mass was trailing behind him like a train. She was more than happy to serve him. Perhaps he was a soon to be client of the guys. It wasn’t often she got to meet someone that good looking. Kazuki was that beautiful but he didn’t count. Not with the way he always hung with that one blind guy. She often questioned his sexuality but it wasn’t her place to pry. Just because she’d never seen him with a girl didn’t mean anything. She’d never seen Ginji with a female and she’d been flirting with him for awhile now. She still hadn’t been asked out on a date.

The man had pointed ears and his eyes weren’t dilated, the bastard didn’t have any pupils to speak of. Pure red was watching the young girl behind the counter with upmost interest. Ban took another sip of coffee, draining what was left. What was the man doing here? The strange man’s movements were also silent. There was no noise as the man walked, not even the dragging of the thick hair made a sound.

Natsumi handed the newest occupant a menu. “Would you like some coffee?” She’d have to make another pot soon. Paul was taking care of the dishes this evening. The man nodded and she went to go fetch a cup. She wondered what his voice sounded like. She blushed realizing she was openly admiring the man. Perhaps it was time to get a boyfriend, all her friends thought so. She’d been waiting on Ginji to approach her with a date. Open flirtation was the best she got. She was already nineteen, it was time to think about her future. She’d recently graduated high school and she was still a virgin. She’d never been kissed yet.

“Natsumi, can you make a fresh pot?” Paul wiped his hands on his apron. At the rate the girl was moving the customer would die of old age. He could remember being that young and seeing something he referred to as eye candy. The man was very feminine looking but he wasn’t fooled. The man moved too stealthy, very agile. He was sure there was plenty of masculine attributes under that long coat. It looked like a trench coat but the material appeared stiff. Ban was also tense, he wasn’t the only one sensing a threat.

She nodded and walked towards the pot. She smiled and turned towards Ban since Ginji was drinking tea. The man put down so she could top it off. What were the chances of the male being single? He was probably older than he appeared. The eyes were a rare shade of crimson, very intriguing. She reached for a new cup to prepare his drink. A tingle went down her spine and her world went dark. The glass shattered as the discarded pot fell to the tile.

“Natsumi-chan.” Ginji reached to where the girl had just been. Nothing but air greeted his fingers. She’d disappeared right before his eyes. He’d been wondering why she was so interested in the new male. A prick of jealousy had began seeing her blushing. But just like that she’d vanished, the broken pot a testament to her quick departure. His eyes turned hearing Ban get off his stool. What was going on? “Ban-chan?”

“What did you do?” Ban clenched his fist as the man didn’t move, simply smiled. The girl was gone, just like that. He’d seen some shit in his lifetime but never seen someone disappear without a trace. Natsumi had been there one second, gone the next. Whatever the man was playing at the girl was innocent. Ginji also turned to confront the guest, realizing who was the cause. It wasn’t a coincidence. The man had been watching the girl with silent intent. “Answer.” The long haired freak nodded then Ban joined the missing waitress.

“Kazuki, Jubei,” Sakura felt the panic as she found the group standing in the large courtyard. Emishi was sitting on a large slab of cement. The others were nowhere in sight. Her heart pounded as she skidded to a halt. This was all her fault, she shouldn’t have walked away. Her feelings had caused her to walk out of the room even though she’d felt something was wrong. She’d tossed it up to a wounded heart, not Brain Trust. Makubex had been happily working on a new program. He hadn’t commented as she moved in close to him or put her arms around his waist. No words had been spoken as she kissed his cheek. Shock had registered on his features as he turned to face her. She’d seen it as a sign to continue. The kiss had been soft, gentle but unreturned. That had caused her to flee in embarrassment. “Makubex.”

“What is it?” Kazuki was instantly on alert. Jubei was gripping his sister’s shoulders as the girl caught her breath. Things had been peaceful for a long time. None of them believed it would stay that way for too much longer. Brain Trust would try to retaliate soon. Naturally the first person they’d strike at was the first one to turn on them. They decided that someone was to stay with Makubex at all times. “Where is Makubex?”

“I can’t get in, I left for only a few minutes. When I decided to go back the door was closed. Voices were heard from the other side. I don’t know who’s in there with him. I heard a woman’s voice,” She finished as they began to run back towards the room. Terror coiled in her stomach thinking the worst had already happened. She couldn’t lose him again. Her brother didn’t release her hand until the reached the closed door. “They are still in there.”

A very soft yet feminine voice was clearly heard. “It’s simple brother, this is as good as a soul. We ourselves are nothing but a form of high intelligence. Do not question her methods, or you will suffer for your doubt. I myself have looked into the history of this being. Highly qualified for what she has in mind. Shame he comes with no real form, just makes things easier. If you were even half as intelligent you wouldn’t be accidently pissing on your shoes. Now give me a hand, I want to wipe the data clean now that I’ve retrieved what is necessary.”

“No!” Sakura screamed as Jubei worked on the door. Kazuki grabbed her shoulders, as the wood busted under the impact. She shielded her eyes from the debris. It cleared leaving a wide gape for them to see inside. A strange looking woman with very short hair clipped close to her scalp. The word manly came to mind but the other was a definite male. Muscular arms tensed in response to their intrusion. Long green hair was pushed from his eyes, black eyes that held a challenge. Makubex was no longer in the room, there was no trace of him. “What have you done with him?”

“Look Sister, another candidate has just graced us with his presence. My my, to think we almost passed him by. At least the stone is recognizing him as a male, though I have my doubts. He looks more of a female than you do. I guess he’ll do, might as well take him with us.” Toshibi saw the fragile looking male tense under the insult. The other male didn’t seem to like the implication either. Lovers? Heh, no matter how beautiful the man was, he had the wrong anatomy. “Finish up already, while I add to our collection.”

Kenage shrugged and hit the next button on the screen. The icon flashed asking if she were sure about deleting the files. “Yes,” She smiled wickedly as the pretty girl screamed and ran towards her. It was a pathetic attempt at an attack. She stood quickly and backhanded the brunette across the face. The wall rose up to stop the small body. “Idiot, grab him and lets get out of here. We have one more to retrieve before we can leave this awful place.”

Jubei ran over to his fallen sister. Her body was crumpled in a heap, her breathing shallow. He knew Kazuki could take care of himself, while he got Sakura to safety. His sister’s skin was cold to the touch but she was alive. “Kazuki, I need to get her somewhere safe. Kazuki?” His senses picked up for any sign of his childhood friend. A sinister giggle filled the room then they were alone. He couldn’t sense anything but Sakura in the small confines.

Shido plucked the blade of grass to place it between his teeth. The garden was closing in on him, the silence threatening to choke him. How long had it been? He didn’t want to remember, it meant bringing back the hurt. Yet he hurt constantly. The feeling, he’d failed to protect it, to protect her. Madoka, did she fault him? How was he supposed to go on? Even his companions stayed away, sensing his foul mood. Who were they to judge him? Couldn’t they sense the loneliness that cloaked the place. Her cheerful presence no longer filled this home. It was an empty shell, all the life lost with her.

Why was he allowed to meet her, only to lose her? Could he continue? A bird chirped in the tree overhead sending it’s condolences. He didn’t need them, he needed her back. The disease that had caused her blindness should have been enough for one girl to endure. To have another wrack her brain, slowly draining her precious life away. He’d been listening to her play that day, the day she’d collapsed onto the cold wooden floor. A new piece, she was playing just for him. It was the last time he’d ever hear the beautiful sounds she manifested.

A month later he’d sat by her side in the hospital. Her hold had felt so cold and fragile entwined in his own. She’d spoken of having been glad to known him. He’d hadn’t been prepared for her to say three words that would shatter his world, the last thing she’d ever say. How could he keep on living when he’d been forced to watch her die? There had been no cure, nothing to stop the growing decay of brain tissue. The doctors said she was lucky, she hadn’t suffered long. No, it was him that would suffer for eternity.

Mozart lifted his head from the thick grass to cock it to the side. A long whimper escaped the dog’s throat causing Shido to become alert. He couldn’t see anything but the dog said something was near. A low growl rose from the animal’s throat. His eyes narrowed as the breeze brought a foul scent. As if a person had gone years without a good hot bath. The musky scent was getting thicker. The dog bounded forward to attack as Shido felt his head spin. “What?!” The whimper of a wounded animal filled the air as his world ceased to exist.

*Inuyasha*

The houshi swore seeing the sullen expression on the miko. It stung even him as she sat on the edge of the well. Would she really leave them for good? He couldn’t imagine things without her. All of them would miss her, Inuyasha was being a moron once again. The hanyou was just lucky Sango hadn’t been here to hear the insults being tossed around. With Naraku dead shouldn’t he be letting go of the dead miko? Would it matter if he did now? The look on Kagome’s face didn’t look too reassuring. “Come back to the village Kagome. Don’t leave over heated words he probably didn’t mean. If it’ll make you feel better I’ll go after him.”

“Keh, no thanks.” She smiled at the houshi that was standing too close for comfort. “Where is Sango?” Yeah, remind him of his bride to be. What a lecher, he’d never change. Just because he no longer had his kazaana didn’t mean he couldn’t die. She was sure being beaten in the head severely would leave him wishing for death. Sango wasn’t the time of woman to put up with that nonsense. The girl had a large jealous streak.

“Helping Kaede, they sent me to fetch you and Inuyasha. You will be fine, he can come back whenever he gets over what’s eating him. Mind if I ask what the argument was about?” He placed a hand on her shoulder. His staff jingled as he bowed. “I may not be a female companion but I am at your service. Tell me all the sordid details.” He was pleased when that earned a genuine smile. It was a shame someone as kind hearted as Kagome frowned.

“Ass,” she giggled but turned serious. “I asked him about leaving and he blew up. I was kind of wanting him to ask me to stay because he wanted me to. All he did was bitch saying I was going to run out on him too. I’m not sure what to do, if anything. Shouldn’t I be upset or crying? Usually by now I’d be a sopping mess but lately I can’t even bring myself to care. I was wanting to hear him say that he wants me with him. I doubt I’ll ever hear it now. Right now, he can keep his feelings to himself, mine have taken a flying fuck off Kaede’s ass.”

“Such vulgar language doesn’t become you.” He turned sensing something to the west. It was the opposite direction in which Inuyasha had stormed off. He squinted in the dying light to get a better view. It didn’t feel like a youkai aura, more human. Instinct told him they were no longer alone. “Kagome, run.”

“Huh?” she blinked at the command and then he was gone. “Miroku? Miroku?!” She screamed glancing around, impossible. The houshi couldn’t move that fast, where had he gone? Inuyasha’s voice was heard screaming her name as she panicked. A hand went into her hair as she spun in a circle. She could feel it now also, something was here. The hanyou burst out of the forest but something surrounded her. The last thing she heard was her name, “Inuyasha.”

The tiajiya spun at the sound of Kagome’s name being hollered into the wind. Her feet stopped in their tracks as the wind around her shifted. Inuyasha wasn’t that far away and was calling hysterically. Shippou stopped beside her as well, sitting on top of Kirara. Miroku had been with the girl, Inuyasha not far. Whatever was happening couldn’t be that terrible. The hanyou had always managed to protect the miko. The houshi was more than capable of handling himself.

A tremor of fear knotted in her gut as Kirara began to growl menacingly. Something was there with them. What more could happen? She shifted the large weapon, ready to strike. Nothing appeared, not a sound was heard. Where the hell were the others? She wasn’t foolish enough to blame this on her imagination. Too many years of training had taught her to trust her instincts, she wasn’t alone. “Shippou, get out of here now. Kirara, go.” The neko took flight, taking the kit to safety.

“There,” She spun on her ankles and released the weapon. It didn’t go more than ten feet before slamming into an unseen predator. A loud scream penetrated the area, it wasn’t human. She focused as a shimmering light pushed the weapon off. Sango took a step back, she couldn’t sense a youkai aura coming from it. “What are you?” A force struck her across the cheek sending her to the ground. Her hands came up in time to catch herself.

“Bitch! Learn your place,” Kenage wanted to laugh as her brother’s swearing could easily be heard. The fighter female was glaring at her in fury. “Excellent, you are perfect. Get up you idiot. She will be the last one here. Let’s depart before that other one gets here. I do not want to trifle with him. If this small girl could make you eat dirt imagine what he’d do to your pretty face.” She held up the stone noticing it was glowing brightly. “Lights out.”

*Rurouni Kenshin*

Saitou signed his official police signature on the report. His knuckles ached from dealing with so much paperwork. The sun was rising outside, he’d spent another night working. He could hear his wife moving around in the bedroom. Not like she will have noticed his absence. From the sounds coming out she was getting ready to begin her day. At the most she’d come out and greet him, that would be the end of it. Perhaps he should head into town and deliver all these. He didn’t have much else to do. He didn’t think he’d hear news from his superior officers for a few more days.

The bedroom door opened and the heavily clothed figure of his wife stepped out. A hollow filling twisted his gut, she was a good woman. She cared about those around her and helped out with children in need. She just had never been the one for him. He was already in his late thirties, when would he find the woman for him? He’d agreed to the arranged marriage a long time ago. He wouldn’t regret the decision. “Morning.”

“Morning.” She went to the fire and placed the large pot over it to simmer. Figures, he grunted when she walked out. It meant nothing, this was his life. It was why he sought out challenges, to escape his dull home life. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d bedded her, years? His knuckles ached for many reasons. She’d wanted children but didn’t she understand that it took having sex to have them. Doing it once every six months wasn’t going to produce one. His luck wasn’t that good. He lit a cigarette as she closed the door behind her. It was nice to be alone, he leaned back to relax.

He rolled the tobacco around on his thin lips. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d gotten excited. When he’d fought along side Himura? That was just the frenzy of battle. When was the last time he’d looked at a female and wanted to pin her against the wall? Did his dick even work anymore? There was plenty of time to keep his sword skills sharp. It was his other stabbing tool he was worried about. If he had the chance he probably wouldn’t know how to handle a woman. His wife was sending him into a state of celibacy. “Fuck.”

He tapped the ashes into the tray as the door opened. He was expecting to see his wife coming back in. A tall woman stood in the doorway, it wasn’t his wife. It sure the hell wasn’t his fantasies running wild. This woman looked more male than feminine except for the large breasts in front. Even her hair was trimmed like a man’s. He didn’t mind a woman being able to defend herself but this one was far from attractive. “Who the hell are you?”

The temple was no longer a refuge, he groaned. Aoshi prepared himself for the girl’s arrival. It was nice to be back among the Oniwabanshuu, they forgave him. He was still trying to forgive himself for allowing his friends to meet their end. Misao visited him daily, pestering him to no end. He cared about her but on most days he just wanted to be left alone. Kenshin had helped him see the error of his ways but healing was a slow going progress. He doubted he’d ever completely get over it.

Misao’s chipper voice entered the small building bringing him up short. He did give a greeting before continuing to meditate. She plopped down in front of him with legs out in front of her, not very ladylike. That’s what he got for raising her like a boy. She didn’t look like a male even though she wasn’t that curvy. It was her demeanor that was lacking in the feminine charms. He shouldn’t even be speculating over it. A part of him said he had to because the girl wanted more from him. He cared for her, he’d never come out and say it. He just wasn’t sexually attracted to her.

She was pretty in the face, had enough breasts to fill a man’s palm with slender legs. He knew if he got involved he didn’t want a prissy lady. He would like a woman that could take care of herself, that carried herself with pride but not stuck on herself. Did he want her sweet and quiet or did he want her to be loud and wild? He wasn’t sure, he had no idea what he’d look for in a potential partner. It was something he’d never really thought about until now. With Misao it made him contemplate what he might want if it came to that.

“When are you getting up? I want to head into town. Will you come with me?” Misao hit him with her foot when he didn’t immediately answer. She was use to his silent moods, he was always keeping to himself. Today she wanted to go purchase a new kimono. Okina had given enough to get at least one for herself. She wanted Aoshi’s opinion, what color did he like? Would he like to see her in it?

“I’ll be down in a few minutes. Let me finish up here and I’ll go with you.” He knew he had to or he’d never get any peace and quiet the remainder of the day. Let her get whatever she was aching to buy. Then he’d come back and enjoy a cup of tea then a nap. His brow lifted watching her strut out, still not very ladylike. Did he want a lady? His gaze lingered as her form disappeared. Maybe he didn’t know what he wanted because he wasn’t sure who he really was yet. If that was the case he’d let things fall as they must. He pushed himself off the floor to get ready to escort her into town, she’d be waiting at the Akabeko. He slipped on his shoes to head there; he never arrived.

“Aoshi!” Misao was fuming as she sprinted inside the temple. How much longer did he need? She’d be an old maid before he got his ass up. The wooden floor was empty except for his blanket. She was sure she hadn’t seen him on the way back up. “Where did you go Shinomori?” She scowled at the empty room. He wasn’t getting off that easy. She was going to track his ass down.

“He isn’t here little girl.” The voice came from the corner of the room. A shadow stepped out from the wall. Misao stumbled back towards the door. Who the hell was this? The man was stunning to the eye but she knew he was trouble. Aoshi wasn’t here and this man was. His smile was creeping her out. No one that cute should look so evil. “Come with me.”

*Final Fantasy X2*

“Hey Rikku,” Paine tried to hide the smile as the couple huddled together some distance away. The beach was full of the Besaid Aurochs. Crimson eyes took in how the two kept a tight grip on one another. They looked happy she couldn’t help but feel a tinge of envy. Once she’d felt a type of connection with another. That was in the past now. How long would it be before she felt it again. When would Rikku finally admit she had a thing for Gippal?

“Yeah yeah, I see em. A moogle couldn’t squeeze between those two. Must be nice,” Rikku smiled as Tidus leaned over to place a kiss on the former summoner’s forehead. Yuna’s story had ended happy. The Gullwings had officially disbanded over a month ago. Buddy and Brother were trying to be help for hire, they weren’t getting anywhere. Shinra had moved to Luca, helping to build an even better blitzball stadium. Which Tidus was to play in this year’s tournament. Wakka was still on Daddy duty. “When do I get mine?”

“I hear Gippal has went back to Djose Temple.” Paine smirked as the girl gasped in fake horror. No one was stupid, the blonde was seriously crushing. Gippal was a sweet guy, she just didn’t see Rikku being happy with him for long. The man was to into his machina to pay the ditzy girl a lot of attention. Just as her small dream with Nooj had quickly come to an end. He had been her Captain, on a ship that had never set sail. Last she heard he was staying with Leblanc. Let the former sphere hunter have him, Paine was better off. “You could go look him up. Brother might give you a lift.”

“Ughhhh, that’s so wrong.” She stomped her feet kicking up dirt. The long strands bobbed as she severely scolded the other girl. “I already told you there is nothing going on between Gippal and me.” She placed a finger on her chin, thinking hard. “Hey I know let’s get Brother to give us a lift to Guadosalaum. I hear Nooj is there. Make a deal with Leblanc. You get Nooj she gets all the spheres in Spira. I’m sure he’s just waiting on you to proclaim your feelings, you know.”

“Stuff it Rikku.” She turned around to watch the surf come rolling in. Confessing feelings she wasn’t sure were there was out of the question. If she loved him then why wasn’t she sad? At times she was lonely, wanting a special someone at her side but that was all. Lately the only friend she had was the dumb blonde. Yuna was absorbed with her guardian. Not that Paine could blame her, Tidus was cute and sweet. The two were in love, she envied them that. “Minus two respect points.”

“Hey, you can’t pull that. I’ve lost all those months ago.” Rikku giggled knowing she was probably right. She ran up to grab the leather clad arm, “I know let’s go for a swim. It’ll be fun.” The beach was beautiful and the blitzers were tossing the ball around. Shinra had pinned the nail on the head, they sucked. Even with Tidus as their new captain she doubted they’d be able to win. A ball rolled pass them and a heavily breathing Keepa jogged on by. “You’re supposed to catch the ball.”

“Sorry,” Keepa chuckled as he snatched the ball up. The corner of his eyes blinked as the sun hit them. He righted himself and turned to ask if they wanted to join them. His brow shot up no longer seeing them standing there. His head turned, Yuna and their captain was still standing near the dock talking. “Um, where did they go?”

*Loveless*

The missed call message flashed on his cell phone. He placed it back on the floor knowing who it was trying to call him. Could he answer the call? What would he say to Ritsuka? Soubi knew he’d allow the boy to explain himself but there really was no need. For six years he’d been Ritsuka’s fighter, giving himself to the boy. For him it was the perfect relationship, one he’d been taught to live in. At first he’d gone to the boy because of his brother’s request. Somewhere along the way he’d come to love Ritsuka on his own. A part of himself had come to care all on it’s own, not having to be told to.

Years he’d waited for the emotions to be returned. He knew that Ritsuka cared for him in his own way. The last year he had to watch Yuiko slowly win the one he wanted over. He’d known Ritsuka hadn’t figured out his own sexuality yet. Now it was decided and he had lost. He’d still be there and protect him, Soubi just needed a few days to accept what could not be changed. He’d seen it coming, had prepared himself for the worst. Catching the two together this morning had shattered what dream was left. He did love Ritsuka despite they would never be lovers.

The apartment felt cold and empty with the two male Zeros slumbering just a few feet away. They had asked why he’d come back early. Everyone knew he’d like to spend his free time with Ritsuka. The long dirty blonde hair fell forward as he stared at he floor. Why wasn’t he more upset? Was it because he’d slowly been preparing himself for this moment? Had he managed to prepare his heart enough that the pain would be dull? He didn’t twitch as the phone rang again. His hand turned it over, knowing he would pick up this time. He didn’t speak as he flipped it open, his breath brushing against the mouth piece.

“Soubi, Soubi,” Ritsuka’s worried voice washed over his soul. The boy’s voice held a hint of panic. Was he worried about him, now that the truth had been discovered? “Where are you? Answer me, I demand you tell me where you are. We need to talk, there’s something you should know. I won’t discuss it over the phone. Are you home?” What was there to talk about? Was this the part where he’d be informed he was no longer needed as Ritsuka’s fighter? Did he want to hear that now? Moisture formed in his eyes as the curtain blew inside.

A shadow fell over his feet, Soubi stiffened. It was no fighter standing on his balcony. The man’s long hair echoed the motion of the curtains. Light brown eyes widened as the man held up a palm. A jewel of an unusual color was glowing in the moonlight. He didn’t feel like moving as he waited for the intruder to speak. A condemning smile made his breath catch, he knew his fate. “I love you, Ritsuka.” The phone fell to the vacant floor, clattering hard enough to wake up the other two occupants.
