Rain
AN: I'm going to tell you right off the bat... I may not update this fic right away. So please... please please please don't yell at me for being slow.
This isn't going to start out with GojyoxHakkai smut. As a matter of fact, Hakkai is still very much infatuated with Kanan. It is going to take a little time.
**Rain**
Lightning slashed across the sky shortly followed by the crack of thunder. The figure sitting on the bed in the dark tensed. It wasn’t the thunder and lightning that frightening him. Not at all. He knew better than to be afraid of thunder. If you’ve already seen the flash and remained unharmed, then you were safe. The thunder was nothing more than a delayed sound due to the speed of light being faster than the speed of sound. Nothing to fear there. His fears stemmed from the memories brought about by the rain that fell. Harmless water that nurtured the earth. Helped plants grow. Fed streams and ponds. Replenished wells. Occasionally it would cause a dangerous flood, but that wasn’t what scared him either. No, what scared him were the memories. Rain. Screams. Blood. Kanan…
The male pulled his legs to his chest tightly. Oh gods the pain was excruciating. His scar burned with searing pain. It almost equaled the pain in his heart. The emptiness that he felt. It hurt. Burned through him like a wildfire. When he was like this he would constantly ask why he was still living. He would hold the short blade close, sheathed, against his skin. Another flash revealed something dark on his white night shirt. He put his hand to the dark spot on his abdomen. It was wet. Warm and wet. The male sighed and flipped the light on. He was bleeding again. The scar hadn’t healed entirely yet and he kept tearing it open by accident. Just as he stood from the bed to go bandage it, the door opened and the redhead stood there transfixed on the blood.
Immediately the redhead rushed into the bathroom to locate the bandages. Without a word he retrieved them and was at the brunette’s side in no time lifting his shirt to bandage him up. Cold hands brushed his warm skin while the white bandages were wrapped around his midsection. The white was quickly drenched with red blood and the brunette had to look away. The redhead’s hands brushed his skin again and the cold skin against his raised goosebumps on his pail warm flesh. There was silence, apart from the rain drumming on the roof, the entire time until he was completely bandaged up.
“How’d it happen this time? Ya trip again?” The redhead seethed, not looking up. Clearly he hadn’t bought the other excuses. “I’m not stupid. I know better than that.” He added a bit softer. Still, he didn’t look up from the brunette’s patched up injury. His eyes were blocked out by the shadow his bangs cast.
“I know you’re not stupid Gojyo. It never crossed my mind. I just… If I told you, you wouldn’t approve.” The brunette stated softly in his understanding voice.
“Hakkai…” Gojyo sighed and looked up. “Whether I approve or not doesn’t mean you have to hide it from me. Besides, there’s not much you could say that would shock me. Not after finding a dieing man lying in a puddle of blood and rainwater on the sidewalk. Who knew he was going to die and accepted it. Embraced it.” Gojyo pulled the bloody shirt off the brunette and tossed it in a pile to be washed.
“Pain is the only thing that blocks out the images. The screams.” Hakkai confessed. Wait, why was he telling Gojyo this? It wasn’t like him to reveal these sorts of things to others.
Gojyo put a hand on Hakkai’s shoulder. “Hey man, we’ve all got our little demons to deal with. Some are worse than others. We just have to find the best way for us to deal with them. It’s different for everyone.” Gojyo didn’t seem surprised or disgusted at all. He seemed completely understanding as if he expected it.
Hakkai looked up into Gojyo’s eyes and felt a shiver run down his spine. What was this? The deeper he looked into Gojyo’s eyes the faster his pulse pounded in his ears. So, he looked away for the moment. “How do you deal with yours?” Hakkai asked.
“Me well… I uh… ya know, that’s kinda hard to explain…” Gojyo stammered not having expected the question.
“Never mind Gojyo. I didn’t mean to pry into personal business.” Hakkai apologized forcing up a false smile that he had been working on the past few months to hide his feelings and emotions. He wasn’t sure if Gojyo had caught on by now or not, but either way, he respected the fact that Hakkai was uncomfortable showing deep emotions.
Gojyo sighed and also looked away. “As you know, my mother… or to be exact, stepmother, didn’t love me. I tried to get it from her and couldn’t. So now, to replace that absence of love, I give it to others.” He said not ashamed of it at all.
So in other words you sleep around to cover your sorrow? Hakkai didn’t voice his question, but knew it was probably true. Actually it was a safer method than masochism. Not that he would be as bold as Gojyo. Like he said, we all deal with it in different ways. “Thank you for your help Gojyo.” Hakkai said with a nod.
Gojyo ran a hand over the small of Hakkai’s back to check and see if any edges of the bandage were sticking out oddly. Hakkai found himself enjoying the simple touch and he pulled away in alarm. Gojyo gave him a questioning glance.
“I didn’t hurt you did I Hakkai?” He asked with concern.
Hakkai shook his head quickly. “No it was just… unexpected. It startled me.” What that actually meant was he wasn’t expecting to enjoy the touch and it startled him knowing that he did. He shouldn’t enjoy a touch from a man in this way. Maybe a soothing pat on the back was ok, but not in the way it made him feel. Like he wanted to curl up next to Gojyo and lay there with his hand on him, stroking his back.
“Lay down, you need sleep.” Gojyo said as he pushed Hakkai down to the bed with a gentle hand. The redhead crawled in bed and pressed up against him as he struggled to remove his shoes. The brunette’s heart fluttered and he tensed. Not so much because of the touch, but because he knew he enjoyed it. Thoughts of him and the redhead cuddling together in this bed, bodies intertwined, made his face flush. Why was he having romantic fantasies about this man?
Gojyo scooted over when he finished removing his shoes and turned off the light. Normally the redhead slept on the couch but on rainy nights like this one, he thought it best to sleep with Hakkai. The converted youkai’s behavior bothered him when it rained and an internal warning told him not to leave the man alone when he was like this. Images of the brunette sprawled out on the floor lifeless would fill his head. He almost always acted on instinct so he did this time as well.
