I. Virus Zapper
Summary: The Mahora mainframe is having some major problems, and so an expert is called in to fix the problem. Hitoshi Kobe is one of the best computer repair people in Japan, and his secret is about to be revealed... M/F.
Negi's afternoon class was supposed to be simple. He was going to have the class view a web site in English and have them translate it. Of course, it would be pretty boring if things went according to plan...
"Hey, what's up with the server?" Negi asked as he tried to get logged online. It wouldn't let him.
"Here, let me." Chisame said. She tinkered with the keyboard a bit. She then looked frustrated and confused.
"Negi-sensei, what the heck did you do to this computer?" Chisame said. The others were just as befuddled as Chisame was.
"This has to be the result of some bug." Saotomi said. "We should get the system admin on this." The others agreed, and Negi called the computing department. Afterwards, he turned back to the class.
"Well, we'll just have to move onto the next lesson, all right? Konoka-chan, won't you read from the book starting in chapter fifteen?" Negi asked.
The system administrator had just started a two-week vacation, and the newly-hired assistant was utterly befuddled. So he got permission from Dean Konoe to hire outside help for the problem. The assistant, a young woman by the name of Sumi Tanaka selected the firm of Kobe and associates to help out. While small, they had a very good track record. The next day, Hitoshi Kobe and his assistant Saati Kobe showed up and bowed before the school dean. With the dean was Ms. Tanaka.
"How do you do, honored sensei?" Hitoshi said. "I am Hitoshi Kobe, and this is my wife and assistant Saati. I understand you are having a problem with your mainframe."
"Yes, Mr. Kobe. It has locked us out of various subdirectories, such as online access." Dean Konoe said. "Our system administrator is on vacation and the assistant is new. Ms. Tanaka will show you the mainframe terminal." Ms. Tanaka then led Hitoshi and Saati to the terminal building.
"I am sorry to have troubled you. This just isn't like our mainframe to do something like this." Ms. Tanaka said. She then led Hitoshi to the computer terminal.
"Hmm... That is a bit of trouble. We’ll need to work on it for a bit.” Hitoshi said.
“All right; well, I have to freshen up. I’ll be right back.” Ms. Tanaka said. She then left the room.
“Ready Saati?” Hitoshi asked.
“Yea.” Saati replied.
“Then let’s go.” Hitoshi said. Saati then entered the computer. Most of what she found was squeeing fangirl blogs. She navigated around them for a bit.
“Nothing so far, Hitoshi-kun. Everything seems normal…” Saati said. “It's just a bunch of blogs so far." Then she turned a corner and came to a door. Saati opened the door and entered a large room. Suddenly, a large male Sumo wrestler appeared before Saati. It looked very angry.
"You... Will... Not... Pass." It said to Saati.
"Password I2JxS73w6l." Saati said.
"I... Am... Lockout... Virus... You... Will... Not... Pass..." It said.
So that's it. It was a virus as Hitoshi suspected. However before Saati could react, Lockout grabbed her and threw her into a terminal window.
Back in class, they continued the lesson.
"The lady walked down the street with her bags in hand." Makie said.
"Very good, Makie-chan. Now -" Negi said. He stopped abruptly when Saati suddenly came through his computer terminal and landed at the feet of Ayaka.
"Whoa! What is that!?" Several people asked. The class started to murmur. Negi looked very stunned at Saati.
"What in the world!?" Negi asked. Saati scrambled to her feet and reentered the computer.
"That seemed real." Fuka noted. Negi was at a loss for words.
"A virtual woman! Hey, you think we can get a bunch of cute virtual men for us?" Fei asked.
"Uh... Class... Let's just continue with the lesson, shall we?" Negi asked.
Back in cyberspace, Saati was prepared for meeting the Sumo wrestler. She took it head on, using her self-defense training. Saati smacked it with a foot to the head, but it seemed to have little effect. The sumo fought back; however, it was slow and Saati was able to avoid being caught by it. She continued to pummel and kick it, and then finally took it down with a foot sweep. The sumo wrestler fell and then Saati zapped it with power, and it disintegrated. The program got erased.
Afterwards, Saati exited the mainframe and Hitoshi greeted her.
"It was the lockout virus. I managed to defeat it though." Saati said.
"Great. Thank you again, Saati." Hitoshi said. Sumi entered the room and looked around.
"What was that bright light I saw in here?" Sumi asked.
"It was the result of a virus being destroyed. You had the lockout virus. I'm installing a firewall that will prevent its reentry." Hitoshi said as he inserted a CD-ROM into the drive. "Lockout is very hard to beat because it will jump from subdirectory to subdirectory."
"I've heard of Lockout. They say nobody's been able to defeat it." Sumi said.
"Except me." Hitoshi replied.
"Great. See the bursar for your fee, okay?" Sumi said.
"No problem." Hitoshi replied. He finished installing the firewall and then retrieved his CD-ROM. He and Saati politely bowed and left.
Mmm... Not bad looking. Too bad he's married. She's lucky, Sumi thought.
After class, some of the girls saw Hitoshi and Saati exit the academy. Kazumi came up to them and started asking questions.
"I'm with the school newspaper. What exactly happened to the mainframe?" Kazumi asked.
"Well, your mainframe caught the lockout virus that's been going around. I got rid of it, though." Hitoshi replied.
"They say that virus is unbeatable. How did you do it?" Kazumi asked.
"The weakness comes from when it jumps subdirectories. You just have to hit it then." Hitoshi replied.
"Say, what company are you with?" Kazumi asked. Hitoshi reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his business card.
"I'm with Kobe and Associates. Here's my card. We're a small company, but we're growing." Hitoshi said. Kazumi took the card and bowed politely.
"Thank you very much, Kobe-san." Kazumi said. Hitoshi smiled politely and bowed.
"It was my pleasure." Hitoshi replied. He and Saati left the academy.
"I got to know how. I just got to know how!" Chisame said. She was poking around the mainframe logs at her dorm room. Chisame wanted to know How Hitoshi defeated the lockout virus. She then found the record.
"Program Saati.exe introduced, and then the virus was deleted? So that's it. That woman we saw could destroy Lockout! I got to get my hands on a copy!" Chisame said.
The next day in class, the girls were waiting for Negi to show up. They were all around Kazumi.
"I got his business card! His name is Hitoshi Kobe and he established Kobe and Associates. I think we should visit him and ask him about that woman we saw coming out of the computer." Kazumi said.
"That woman was the program that destroyed the Lockout virus. I want a copy too." Chisame said.
"I want to know if we can use it to make a cute guy or two!" Fei said.
"I'm going to visit him tomorrow. Who wants to come along?" Kazumi asked.
