Chapter 1

The handcuffs chaffed my wrists as I sat closer then I was comfortable with to this eccentric detective.
“Can you please remind me again why it is necessary to shackle me to you?”
“Because Yagami-kun I need to be able to monitor your behaviour 24 hrs 7 days a week. So logically if we are together 24 hrs a day ….”
“You could just monitor my activities via these numerous cameras and bugs you have around the place” I interrupted his attention never leaving the wall of monitors
“That is true Yagami-kun, but I don’t believe that would be beneficial to my desired … there is a 54% chance that you may attempt to escape or become deceitful in your actions” I let out a sigh of complete frustration to his complete overreaction to the situation
“Does Yagami-kun not like my company?” he finally shifted his attention away from the monitors, taking up chewing his thumb as he considered his words again.
“Is this not what friends do together?”
“Are you serious? Friends don’t chain themselves together” I replied with annoyance
“Hmm” his attention not diverted to a chocolate cupcake that had appeared from no-where “I would have to agree with your assumptions as there is only a 0.2% …” I cut him off with a glare of instant death if he continued.
“Normal people don’t chain themselves together”
“But we are not normal people you and I wouldn’t you agree? I am the genius detective L and you are the psychopathic Kira” his voice low as he studied the cupcake intently.
“There is definitely a 100% chance that you are not normal Ryuzaki”
“I can see the logic in your obvious attempts at concealing your true identity by trying to direct the statement towards me” he replied spraying a few crumbs from the cupcake he was now busying himself with eating.
I spun my chair back towards the wall of monitors as my frustration of being chained to this weirdo grew within in me. From the corner of my eye I could see him staring at the now empty plate nibbling his thumb in concentration.
“Would it be preferable if we were to go on a date to take your mind off the current situation?” at these words my mouth dropped faster then an out of control elevator.
“ARE YOU SERIOUS?” my eyes wide from disbelief at what I definitely heard
“Well in these sorts of situations don’t friends go out and relax in each others company?”
“Ryuzaki, people who are dating go out on date’s togethers. The last time I checked we don’t fall into that category, as we are neither dating nor friends”
“Yagami-kun can say such hurtful words when he is angry. I don’t see the logic behind such defensive words” before I realised what I was doing my fist was connecting with the side of his head.
“Can’t see the logic?” was the only word I uttered as Ryuzaki’s feet connected with my chest launching me backwards off my chair, the momentum also bringing Ryuzaki along as the chain tightened around our wrists. I quickly regain my balance swing another punch this time connecting with his chest, the force causing him to keel over winded landing on my shoulder. I rested my head momentarily trying to get my breath before I could realise my error I felt his head crash into my jaw as he launched himself upwards. My vision slightly blurred from the shock of the impact I fell over backwards as my wobbly legs made contact with a chair that I don’t recall ever being there. I sensed more then saw Ryuzaki move to kneel over my sprawled out body, blood beginning to trickle from my nose down the side of my face.
“I really don’t see the logic behind such violent outbursts Yagami-kun”
“Can you please stop with your damn analysis of me for one second?” I hissed spraying blood from my mouth
“…” I could hear him start nibbling his thumb as he thought of some obvious reply that seemed to have eluded him.
“So I take it Yagami-kun doesn’t want to go on a date with me?”
“L” I growled as I whipped my feet around trying to kick him in the side of the head
“NO. I DON”T WANTS TO ON A DATE WITH YOU”
“That is all you needed to say” he replied as he brought a foot down on my rib cage letting out a gasp of pain as he lowered the rest of his weight on to my chest. It took me a few moments to register that he was now sitting on my chest chewing his damn thumb again. It took every bit of self control to resist the urge to knock him off my better judgement deciding against it since I knew that he would retaliate and would win.
“We are both such childish people. Logic would dictate that geniuses should be of a higher standard and thus more mature, which we clearly are an exemption” he mumbled
“I would say logically speaking we only appear immature and childish as we have never had anyone to challenge us” I replied staring at the ceiling
“Light will you go on a date with me?” his tone unsure
“Why is it so important to you that we go out on a date? Why don’t you just say ‘hey you want to do anything, like maybe see the latest action movie or something’ like normal friends do?” I shifted my attention back to his face full of concentration
“Because Light I have never been on a date before” he finally replied chewing his thumb nervously I watched him closely as his face was full of mixed emotions.
“Then why don’t you find some girl and ask her out?”
“It would not be the same”
I continued to watch his face looking for some hint to his thoughts ‘there is definitely something wrong’ I thought
“Of course it won’t be the same since I’m a guy”
“Hmm” he continued to work at his thumb a while longer before leaning forward so our noses barely touched
“You’re correct, there is a 40% chance that you are indeed correct” I stared blankly into the black pools of his eyes “It won’t be the same because it won’t be with you. Is that not a logical enough answer for you Light-kun?”
‘Why is he calling me by my first name’ I thought as I continued to loose myself in the depths of his eyes so full of loneliness
“I will only accept your proposal if you agree to take off these handcuffs?”
“I’m sorry Yagami-kun but we both know that I can’t do that” his breath coming out soft and warm against my skin making think of what it would feel like to have his lips against my skin.
“Shit” I whispered aloud as I could feel my cheeks becoming hot from embarrassment
“Is Light-kun feeling unwell?”
“I’m fine” I stammered unsure of whether I should try and move him off me
“There is a 3% chance of you being …” moving my head those final few inches I cut him off taking his shocked lips into a soft kiss. I could taste the remnants of the chocolate cupcake he had been devouring prior to us ending up on the floor. I slowly lowered my head in embarrassment as I realised he was not returning my kiss
“I’m sorry Ryuzaki” I turned my head away as he resumed nibbling his thumb still leaving the minimal distance between us.
“I don’t see the logic behind such sporadic displays of emotions” his eyes focusing inwardly “There is now a 0.112% chance that you will freak out if I were to return the kiss back to you” I moved my eyes to meet his watching me in consideration
“If we are talking about statistics it should be you Ryuzaki who should be freaking out over the kiss” I replied trying to gauge what he might be thinking
“That was my first kiss Light-kun” his eyes becoming distant as instead of chewing his thumb it was tracing the outline of my lips.
“You’re bleeding Yagami-kun, we need to get you to the infirmary” he rose slowly the pain in his features from our fight evident in his poor attempt to hide it. I waited for his weight to be completely off me before attempting to move to a sitting position I didn’t stay upright for long as the blood rushed back to my head. The last thoughts I remember is of Ryuzaki leaning over me uttering words I didn’t understand I slid my heavy eyes closed as my head dropped back in unconsciousness.
