A Kiss In the Rain

It was not a very good summary....ignore most of it.

Chapter One

Raven's Judgment

Raven sat on the balcony of his room. Looking out over the world, over the wall he had never seen the other side of. His father didn't want him to see "the cruel hating world" as his father always spoke of.

His father would always return with terrible wounds covering him head to foot. The King always called on his father, saying his father was the best he had in his Kingdom. But his father said otherwise, that the King only wanted to see how far Raven's father would go to serve him.

On nights like this, he'd make Raven watch as servants would wash he wounds and bandage them. He hated it. He hated all the blood shed. He hated all the men his father talked about that gave their lives for their King. But the King never grieved for his fallen men, only rounded more up the next day.

"Raven" a voice spoke behind him. Raven turned to see his mother standing there. "Your father wishes to speak with you in his chamber" she said in a soft whispery voice. She smiled kindly as he stood up and walked over to her.

"What about mother? Why does father tell me about his battles? Why does he make fun of men who gave their lives to their King?" Raven asked looking at her for answers. "You know it pleases him serve our King, and telling the stories of battle make him think of you as a grand warrior" she said with a smile as they walked to the main chamber of the house.

Stopping outside the door, she turned and smiled at him. "I wish you the best of luck, my sweet Raven...try not to upset him, please" she said looking him in the eyes. "I promise mother, i won't" Raven said smiling back. Even though his father was harsh on him, he knew his mother would always be gentle.

She turned and walked away, leaving him in front of the main chamber, alone. Gathering courage, he opened the door and walked in. "Aw, my lad, please come sit with me" the older man said from where he lie on the bed, covered in bandages. Raven walked over and sat on a stool next to the bed.

"Going to tell me stories of battle, father?" Raven asked. "Yes, my boy I am" his father said with a triumphant smile. "Today's battle was a success because of your old man" his father said waving his arm. "Oh, I'm sure, they had to have their best swordsman" Raven said laughing.

"Well, today i watched as a large sea of men stormed towards me, i was terrified, but i remembered that i was doing this for our King, so gathering what strength i could, i aimed for the other mens chest and waited for them to rush onto my sword. As the first row clashed onto our swords, we took off into their sea of very welled trained men, slashing and stabbing what men we could to get through to the last of them. Arrows were flying in every direction, arrows were piercing my legs, my arms, and my chest. But my heart told me to keep going, two spears hit me in the side, men were coming at me from every angle. Swords clashing and banging against each other, fighting for dominance. Seeing a man on a white horse overlooking all his men fighting, i trudged forward to the man, he saw me coming and tried to have two men attack me. But i cut through them with four swings of my sword, and threw my sword at him, it hit him in the side and he fell off his horse. The horse took off and left him helpless. Walking over, i took a spear laying near by and stabbed him in the throat, declaring our victory" his father explained with a proud smile.

Raven could only remain silent. It horrified him, that his father enjoyed such things. "So, did you like what your old man did today?" his father asked. "Yes, i will remember each story" Raven said with a fake smile. "You must love being a swordsman" Raven said.

Raven's father smiled. "Well, my boy, next week, you will be training to be one" his father said proudly. Raven gaped. His father couldn't be serious, could he? Raven just looked at him. "Your not serious, are you?" Raven asked.

"I am my boy, you need to be out there with your old man fighting" his father said. "But, I cant even hold a sword, let alone attack another man" Raven gaped. "Well, I'm bringing in the best to teach you...his name is Seth and his an old friend of mine, that will teach you to hold a sword and fight" Ravens father said.

"Do you understand me, Raven your of age to start wielding a sword, most boys start at 11 or 12...I've waited until you were 19 years old, most of the other swordsman laugh and mock me because of it, it will not wait any longer, next week you will start learning" his father said as anger flooded his face.

Raven got up and walked to his room. How could he ever kill another man with a sword?
