Heavenly Kings In The Courts Of Hell

Author's Note: I decided to write a fanfic involving elements of both the anime series, the musicals, and PGSM, starting with an anime explaination of the relationship between Zoicite and Kunzite, but delving into their past in the Moon Kingdom together with the Princesses similar to the musicals, and using the descriptions of the Shitennou similar to the characters seen in the live-action series. So, if there's a bit of confusion, just consider the mix. Also, I changed the names of the princesses of the inner planets. Different names, same women.
Chapter 1 -- Heavenly Kings In The Courts of Hell
Greetings. My name is Kunzite, and I am one of the greatest warriors of Queen Beryl, ruler of the Dark Kingdom. One of my best students is also my lover, a young man who has been under my mentorship for over a millenium, by the name of Zoicite. He too is a great Dark Kingdom warrior. He is always fighting with the other two men in our troop, Jadeite and Nephrite, and that is one of the things that has so endeared me to him. Perhaps it is the sheer enjoyment of watching them squirm, but there are few things that I do not condone concerning his behavior, especially when it came to his constant bickering and rivalry with the arrogant Nephrite.
But I was not always a Dark Warrior. During the time of the Silver Millenium, at the height of the reign of Queen Serenity of the Moon Kingdom, I was a court noble and a member of the Venus Guard. I was swooned after by young men and women alike, but I was devoted at the time to Princess Maena, the Princess of Venus, who was living in the Moon Kingdom as a guardian of her cousin, Princess Serena. Maena's mother, Queen Allura of Venus, had chosen me from the Venus Guard to be Maena's personal body guard, on Queen Serenity's recommendation. Before this, Maena and I had fought alongside one another at various times in our teen years, and had become somewhat close in the process. It wasn't until after I was assigned as her personal bodyguard that we fell in love.
Zoicite was there, but was absolutely infatuated with Princess Amiya of Mercury, who was also a guardian of Princess Serena. Jadeite was with Princess Reina of Mars, and Nephrite was with Princess Kina of Jupiter. All of us were under the direct supervision of Prince Endymion, Prince of Earth and captain of Queen Serenity's guard. I was not always in agreement with Endymion's decisions and actions, but I was ever as loyal to him as to any of the other royalty.
Our story begins as we were all preparing for a grand ball in the halls of Queen Serenity's castle, and I had prepared for the evening for some time now. My normal black suit and whote cloak was to be replaced by a suit of red, much more like Nephrite's normal outfit than any I normally wore. Instead of a red cape, however, my cape was the blackest of black, even darker than my own black hair. Of course, from what I had seen of the other men's wardrobes, they were all planning to wear different outfits than normal. Instead of his normal silver suit that Zoicite normally wore, his suit would match Princess Amiya's delicate blue dress, but would use the same sheer white. The others, while the same colors they normally wore, were much fancier than normal, of course to impress their princesses.
As the four of us were seated at the noon meal that day, Jadeite pointed out to me that we were eerily alone in the dining room, which nearly never happened during meal hours. Normally, there were at least a few other nobles eating, or servants were cleaning up the tables.
"I don't know what you're complaining about," Zoicite said, taking a bite of his bread. "The quiet is nice, except I wish that someone was playing the piano or something." I looked over at him with a smile. The man had a real talent and love of music, especially stringed instruments like the piano and violin. I had also practiced the violin, and loved playing it with him as the princesses sat and listened to us.
"I think there could be a problem, though," Jadeite said. "I can't hear anything from outside either. It's like we're..." Just then, someone walked in who bore a striking resemblance to Prince Endymion with an older woman with bright red hair and a black, very revealing dress comparable with any that Queen Serenity wore. "...being watched." The teacup in Nephrite's hands nearly slipped from his hands, and all of our mouths gaped open. This woman was stunningly beautiful! But who was this man with her? I knew for a fact that he was not Endymion, simply by his shiny silver hair much like Zoicite's, and a black crescent moon on his forehead. Aside from that, he looked exactly like him.
"Who, may I ask, are you, Sir?" Nephrite said, standing.
"I am Prince Diamond of the Dark Moon," he said. "And this is Queen Beryl, Queen of the Dark Kingdom." So, that was the strong, cold force that I had felt. Dark Kingdom magic was strong, and I knew it. Of course, part of me also wanted to know its great power, to be part of it. "We've come to offer all of you a part in a very promising venture that we have planned for a few days from now."
"And that would be?" Zoicite said, the rest of us on our feet by now.
"Overthrowing all of the Silver Kingdom," Beryl said. My eyes widened. They wanted US to overthrow the people we had spent most of our lives with, to betray the princess who we so dearly cared for? Maena would never forgive me if I did such a thing, so my first reaction was to scoff.
"You actually expect us to betray our own people?" Jadeite said before I could speak. "With all due respect, Your Majesty and Highness, I'm not interested."
"Did they say there was a choice in the matter?" said another man, this time with deep blue hair, but bearing the same black moon on his forehead. "We have spies with each of the princesses as we speak, who have been ordered to kill them if they hear the music of this flute. And believe me, they WILL hear it." My sneer turned to a look of complete terror. Maena was in danger, and I was powerless to help her! The color in the others' faces drained as well, and Zoicite even sank back down in his chair.
"Nice timing, Little Brother," Diamond said. "We do not want to harm any of you! So, do you join us and overthrow the Silver Kingdoms or see your women die!" Pulling his sword, he raised it and was joined by the man who he called his brother. He seemed to be calling for us to raise our swords, to join them, and Queen Beryl reached out her hand, palm up, to beckon us to her. Nephrite seemed to know that he could do nothing, and pulled his sword and joined it with the others, followed close behind by myself and Jadeite, and finally Zoicite.
"Forgive me..." I said, uncharacteristic tear forming in my eyes.

"We've come to offer all of you a part in a very promising venture that we have planned for a few days from now."
"And that would be?" Zoicite said, the rest of us on our feet by now.
"Overthrowing all of the Silver Kingdom," Beryl said. My eyes widened. They wanted US to overthrow the people we had spent most of our lives with, to betray the princess who we so dearly cared for? Maena would never forgive me if I did such a thing, so my first reaction was to scoff.

"Did they say there was a choice in the matter?" said another man, this time with deep blue hair, but bearing the same black moon on his forehead. "We have spies with each of the princesses as we speak, who have been ordered to kill them if they hear the music of this flute. And believe me, they WILL hear it."
