It's About Time
“Yuri! Get back here right now!”
Yuri didn’t even spare his ‘fiancee’ a glance as he hurried through the halls of Blood Pledge Castle. Wolfram had made it very clear that he wanted to discuss their situation. Wolfram wanted an answer and he wasn’t going to leave Yuri alone until he got it.
Yuri should have been relieved. Wolfram had given him not only the opening to talk about the accidental engagement but to break it off once and for all. He should have been bouncing off the walls with excitement and rejoicing in his new found freedom. He should be planning a ball right now so that he could finally get to know some of the female population of this world without Wolfram breathing down his neck.
Should have been, but something was holding him back. Some little nagging voice in the back of his head was asking him if letting Wolfram go was really what he wanted to do. The voice sounded disturbingly like his mother and went on to talk about how she’d dreamed of the day Wolfram would walk down the aisle in the dress they’d picked out together.
But it wasn’t just his mother that was holding him back. If he did everything his mother wanted him to he’d probably be walking around in the Mazoku version of a girl’s school uniform right now. As he attempted to shake off the disturbing mental image he heard Wolfram’s pace quicken behind him. If something conveniently urgent didn’t happen soon he was never going to get away. He’d even settle for Gunter or Gwendel whisking him off to take care of some mundane task like studying or paperwork.
Wolfram seemed to sense Yuri’s thoughts and when Gunter rounded the corner looking for Yuri he dove on his fiancée like someone had just fired an arrow at him. In fact, for a second Gunter thought that was what had happened and immediately tried to locate the assassin. When he couldn’t find anything amiss he turned back to the struggling pair on the floor. “Majesty, Wolfram, what in the world…?”
Wolfram had one of his arms tightly around Yuri’s neck and the other was twisting Yuri’s arm behind his back as he dragged the king to his feet. He wasn’t taking any chances on Yuri escaping his grasp a second time. “He’s mine and I don’t care what anyone, including the wimp here, has to say about it.”
“Now look here Wolfram, what if it’s really important?”
“Be quiet you. If I let you out of my grip you’ll throw yourself into the nearest puddle of water and I won’t see you again for a month or two. I’m not letting that happen, not this time.”
Gunter was a little taken aback by Wolfram’s tone of voice. The blonde sounded almost calm as he restrained the struggling double black. It was almost enough to make him forget the reason he had come to find Yuri in the first place. Almost. “Wolfram I really must insist…”
Wolfram didn’t even pause to listen to the rest of Gunter’s speech. He marched Yuri right past the startled retainer and toward their bedroom. “You can have him when I’m done with him.”
Yuri grumbled as Wolfram pushed him through the door. “I don’t see what the big deal is anyway.”
Wolfram shot a cold over his shoulder as he turned the key locking them inside and all interruptions out. “Of course you don’t. You aren’t the one waiting on pins and needles for your fiancée to decided if he wants you or not.”
Yuri sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. This was not going to be easy. “Wolfram, we’ve been over this a thousand times…”
Wolfram crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back against the door. “Have we really? I don’t seem to remember a single discussion on the matter.”
Yuri felt his mouth drop open and it took all he had to close it again. He swallowed a couple times to clear the lump that was suddenly in his throat. “Are you serious?”
Wolfram waved off Yuri’s disbelief. “Oh I seem to remember you spouting some nonsense about us both being boys, which doesn’t really matter if we care about each other now does it? And there is that not so casual side step you do every time I introduce myself as your fiancée; the one where you say something about it not being important. But other than that we never talk about it, which means we’ve never really gone over it have we, Yuri?”
Yuri felt like Wolfram had physically hit him. Had he really been that insensitive? His brain was telling him yes he had. He had known full well how much Wolfram loved him and he had just ignored the whole problem hoping it would go away. He really should have known better. His mother was back in his head telling him she knew she’d taught him better than that. He listened to her energetic speech as he sat down on the edge of his bed. He swallowed another lump before he slowly raised his eyes to meet Wolfram’s. “Would it help at all if I told you I was trying not to hurt your feelings?”
Wolfram sighed and pushed himself off the door. “Not really but it’s a start.”
Yuri watched as Wolfram crossed that room and joined him on the bed. Now that they had started the ball rolling he knew there would be no stopping it until the whole matter had been resolved. That didn’t make it any easier for him but at least he wasn’t going to have to run anymore. Wolfram caught his gaze and Yuri struggled to put his feelings into words.
Wolfram watched the inner struggle and put his finger over Yuri’s lips before the same old excuses came tumbling out. “Yuri, have you ever seriously thought about us? I mean seriously consider how you feel about me? Or have you just been focusing on the fact that I’m a guy.”
Yuri pulled Wolfram’s hand away. “The fact that you’re a guy is a huge problem for me Wolfram.”
Wolfram silently studied his right boot for a few minutes before he softly asked. “If I was girl would you marry me?”
“That’s an unfair question Wolfram.”
Wolfram felt his hands curling around the bedspread. “How about I phrase it this way, are you attracted to me at all? And don’t tell me you don’t know. Think about it.”
Yuri sighed deeply. “If you promise not to make a huge deal about it I already have the answer.”
Wolfram felt his fingers digging deeper into fabric. “I’m not going to like the answer to this am I?”
Yuri put his hand over Wolfram’s clenched fist and squeezed it gently. “Probably not, but not for the reason you’re thinking. Just hear me out until the end okay?”
Wolfram decided that his left boot needed some studying as well. “Just get on with it you wimp.”
Yuri took a deep breath and spit out the answer before he could change his mind. “I find you extremely attractive.”
Wolfram didn’t know what hit him. One minute he was sitting next to his soon to be ex-fiancée waiting for the words that would put the final nail in the coffin of their relationship and the next he was sitting on the floor trying to convince himself that he had heard correctly. The first thing that penetrated the fog that had overtaken his brain was sound of Yuri’s voice. The second thing was the feeling of Yuri gently shaking his shoulder. Finally the actual words made it through. “Wolfram, hey, are you okay?”
Wolfram felt himself get to his knees and turn to face the man of his dreams. Slowly he reached his hands up to cup the sides of Yuri’s face. He desperately searched his beloved’s eyes for some sign that he wasn’t hallucinating. “Tell me you said what I think you said.”
Yuri didn’t like this at all. The position was uncomfortable enough but the look of hope in Wolfram’s eyes was killing him. “I did, but I wasn’t done yet.”
Wolfram shook his head. “What else is there to say? You find me attractive and I know you care about me. I have a chance.”
Yuri tried to tear his gaze away with no success. He really didn’t want to watch as he ripped out Wolfram’s heart. He’d already been through that once and he didn’t think it would be any easier this time around. “Wolfram, have you thought this through yourself? We’re both guys. We can’t… you know…do the stuff that married couples do. And if we’re going to be together for the rest of our lives that’s not really fair to either one of us.”
Wolfram wasn’t sure what Yuri was getting at. Was he trying to imply that two guys couldn’t be anything more than friends? Surely even Yuri wasn’t that naïve. “Are you trying to tell me we can’t have a wedding night because we’re both male?”
Yuri felt himself blushing as he nodded.
Wolfram cocked his head to the side and studied his fiancée. Yuri was completely serious. He really thought that there was no way two guys could have sex. What did they teach people in the world Yuri came from? No wonder he had been so against the idea of marrying a man. He could barely contain his laughter as he pulled Yuri into his arms and they tumbled together on the floor.
Yuri was so surprised by Wolfram’s reaction that he didn’t even resist as he felt himself sliding off the bed. He had been expecting tears or protests that Wolfram didn’t need sex as long as he could be by Yuri’s side. He had not been expecting this loving embrace, or the relieved smile he had seen flash across the blonde’s face. Of course all that was forgotten the second he felt Wolfram’s warm breath on his ear as he whispered, “I hate to break it to you Yuri, but there are plenty of thing two guys can do that are equal to if not better than straight sex.”
Yuri tried to process what Wolfram was telling him. Was it really possible? He pulled back far enough to look into the blonde’s eyes and what he saw there made him completely aware of how much of his body was on top of Wolfram’s. It was too much for him to handle and he quickly scrambled out of his fiancée’s grasp. “W-Wolfram y-you can’t be serious.”
Wolfram slowly crawled toward Yuri, his piercing gaze never leaving the demon king’s face. “I’m dead serious. Now, do you have feelings for me or not?”
Yuri tried to back up from the advancing boy but his back soon hit the side of the bed. “I-I don’t know. M-maybe? This is a little much for me to deal with all at once. Why don’t you go back over there and I’ll think about it.”
Wolfram frowned but did not stop his advance. “You’ve had years to think about it. It’s not my fault you didn’t use your time wisely.” Wolfram finally caught up to his retreating fiancée and slide his arms around Yuri’s neck. “Now do you love me or not. I’m not letting you go until you answer me.”
Yuri couldn’t think, could breathe. He was pretty sure that if Wolfram got any closer his rapidly beating heart was going to leap from his chest. How had it come to this? He had been totally convinced that he and Wolfram would never be able to be together… like that. Now the blonde was telling him not only was it possible but extremely enjoyable? Was that why no one else had batted an eye at their new king’s engagement? Did everyone know this but him?
“Yuri, if you don’t say something I’m going to kiss you.”
In the past hearing Wolfram make that threat would have stopped his heart and cooled his blood, but not anymore. Everything was different. He was different. And if he was going to do something crazy he better do it now before he came crashing back to earth literally or figuratively. He ducked his head as much as possible, a blush rapidly spreading across his face, and mumbled quietly. “Why don’t you?”
Wolfram gently tilted Yuri’s head up and waited until the king’s eyes met his. “If you really want me to, I will Yuri.”
Yuri wasn’t sure what he wanted. If he actually kissed Wolfram there would be no going back. But he knew in his soul that if he didn’t kiss Wolfram right now he’d regret it for the rest of his life. He slowly slid his hand up to cup the side of the fiancée’s face. He paused there a moment before sliding the hand further in Wolfram’s hair. Slowly he pulled Wolfram’s head down until their lips where a breath apart. In a needy voice Yuri barely recognized as his own he whispered. “Please.”
Wolfram didn’t need anymore prompting. He poured all his feelings for his wimp into that kiss. He wasn’t going to let Yuri go without knowing exactly how much Wolfram loved him. Wolfram felt Yuri’s hands bury into his hair as he clumsily responded. Wolfram felt his own hands twitch with the need to touch. He bypassed the buttons on Yuri’s shirt and went straight for the hem of the garment. He never took his lips off of the young king as pushed the offending material up and out of his way.
To Yuri this was a big red flag. Kissing was one thing, he had just discovered how much he like kissing. But touching, especially bare skin touching, felt way too overwhelming. He pulled his lips away from Wolfram’s with a gasp. “W-wait. I can’t… it’s not…”
Wolfram steadied himself with deep breath and pulled his hands out from under the shirt. He studied Yuri’s face closely trying to figure out if he had done more harm than good. “I’m sorry Yuri, I didn’t mean to push it that far. You okay?”
Yuri nodded slowly. “A little fuzzy but otherwise unharmed. I think. Is it supposed to feel like that?”
“Not until you two are married it’s not.”
Both young men’s head turned sharply toward the door at the sound of Gwendel’s voice. Wolfram jumped at the sight of both of his brothers and an unconscious Gunter in the doorway. How had they gotten there without him noticing? He was sure he had locked that door.
A red faced Gwendel held up the spare key. “Gunter was worried about his Majesty’s safety and pestered me until I agreed to open the door for him.”
Yuri looked desperately around his room for a large enough body of water to transport him back to his home world. Wolfram realized what his fiancée was up to and pinched his arm. “You are not leaving me to face my brothers alone.”
Gwendel turned his back on the couple and briskly walked out of the room. “I’ll get started on the arrangements for your wedding.”
Wolfram stood up quickly and started after his brother. “Wait, Yuri hasn’t agreed to marry me yet.”
Gwendel stopped dead in his tracks and glared over his shoulder. “I’m pretty certain I recall him asking for your hand the first day you two met.”
Yuri finally managed to find his tongue. “But I didn’t think you guys were serious! I just found out today that two guys can actually…” When he realized what he was saying he wished his tongue had stayed lost.
Gwendel already had his hand on his sword and was halfway across the room before Conrad could stop him. “Now, now. There is no way they did anything like that in the short amount of time they had alone together.”
Yuri decided to end this nightmare the only way he knew how. “It doesn’t even matter anymore; I finally have that answer you were looking for Wolfram.”
Wolfram put his hand out as if the ward off the bad news he was sure was coming. “Yuri, you don’t…”
Yuri shook his head. “Yes I do. I’ve kept you wait long enough.” He grabbed Wolfram’s outstretched hand and brought it to his lips briefly before dropping to one knee. “This may seem a little strange to someone from a world were you slap someone to ask for their hand but this is how I was taught it should go. Wolfram von Bielefeld, will you marry me?”
Wolfram couldn’t stop the tears streaming down his cheeks as he dropped down to meet his beloved. He threw his arms around Yuri as he sobbed. Yuri pressed a kiss to his forehead and chuckled. “I’m going to take that as a yes.”

Well there it is. My little drabble into the KKM fandom. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue this little story but I think it stands well as a one-shot.
