Color Amongst the Gray

Author Note: This fanfiction takes place when L should be dying and then after that it will be in the same time frame as L Change the World.
I feel in love with the way L shows his affections for Light and has sentamintal over Light's watch so I wrote this. Yes, Light and L are both alive, still there will be apperances of Near, Mello, and possibly Matt.

This fanfiction will be the way I wanted L Change the World to go. It is actually going to be altered a lot and only have the point of the virus and everything.

I hope you will enjoy this as much as I think I will~!

Chapter One: Panic

L hadn't been taught how to handle stress, it came on instinct ninety-percent of the time. He thought he knew how to stay calm in desperate situations - situations much like this one.

There was doubt in his large gray eyes as they flickered over the alarming monitors. He was not so sure of himself anymore as he leaned up and called out for Watari.

The flashing red lights were enough to cause panic to the rest of the Task Force.

"Ryuzaki… what's going on?" Light's voice was that of innocent panic as he reached out and grabbed L's chair.

"It's in case of emergency. I told Watari to delete everything if something were to happen to either him or me." L's words only held a slight bit of anger and panic in them behind the monotone.

He ignored the chaos happening around him as the others realized the emergency meant Watari's death and searched for the Shinigami responsible.

He jumped back from the screen - the desk chair rolling away from the disruption.

Light was grinding his teeth down hard as he waited for the expected death of L. He didn't foresee Rem taking out Watari as well, but it was a brilliant idea that would take out any suspicion of him being Kira.

It felt like he had waited to long. It was far to long.

The hollow eyes of the insomniac detective looked back at the suspect. The gaze flowing down the length of his form.

Light shifted, "This is bad! What do we do?"

The panic was not fake - only expressed in a different manner.

The ticking of Light's watch told him the seconds going by as he stared back at L.

Nothing was happening…

Nothing.
