Divine Insanity

Divine Insanity

**Mad ramblings aka Author's notes**

If you haven't read Shades of Time you'll probably be confused by this. I'll probably come up with more warnings as I go along. If you don't like the boys with girls or OCs, there's the door, I don't want to read any bitching about it if you choose to read.  Flames will be ignored, reported and deleted without further comment. Now that the warnings are over, thanks to those reading.

Prologue

Sanzo took a drag on the smoke between his fingers and leaned his head back against the tree.  It had taken forever to get away from the party goers, escaping the wedding party, particularly the groom had been quite a feat on its own.  It was such a strange thing though.  Goku being married.  He’d barely blinked when Hakkai and Rei, then Gojyo and Xan had asked him to marry them because he’d been expecting it the whole time they’d been on their journey to the West and back home again.  But for some reason Goku and Anya getting married seemed stranger to him than anything he’d seen or done on the long road they’d all been on together.  He supposed it was because Goku had grown up in his presence and he’d never noticed it that much, even now, he still saw the round dumpling of a boy who was always hungry not the grown man he now was.

Ten years had passed and he’d barely blinked as things changed.  Hakkai and Gojyo were both fathers now.  Hakkai and Rei had three, working on four by this point, all of them with red hair and green eyes.  Gojyo and Xan only had one because Xan swore that was all she was ever having because two children around dragons was plenty.  Sanzo presumed she was including Gojyo in the number of children counted.  He’d gotten used to children following him around like ducklings, tugging on his sleeves, calling him Uncle Sanzo, or in the case of Gojyo’s brat “that damn monk”.  That girl had a mouth on her, he thought.  Hardly surprising considering her parents.  He’d taken it all in stride with no trouble but for some reason Goku getting married, that had thrown him.  Because, even though he would have never admitted it to anyone and hated admitting it to himself it left him one place . . .

“Alone, I see,” came a voice from behind him.

He was up and turned around, holding the gun on the other person in barely a breath.  “Goddamnit, Mai.  Are you trying to get shot?” he growled around the cigarette.  He turned back around and slid down the tree to sit again and ended up snarling because his hair had gotten caught on a piece of tree bark.

“Hardly,” she snorted. “You must be slipping if you didn’t hear me tromping through the woods to find you.  Here, let me get this loose.  You know, your hair is almost as long as mine now,” she said, comparing strands of golden blond hair to her own platinum blonde.  She plopped down next to him and swiped his smoke for a drag.

“I was thinking,” he said.  “And you’re too young to steal my damn smokes.”  He grabbed the cigarette back from her and glowered.

“Oh, please.  I’m the same age you were when we met,” she pointed out.

Sanzo frowned.  Was she really twenty three now?  That seemed almost as odd to him as Goku being married.

Mai sighed.  “Just come back to the party, Koryu.  Goku is about to send out a search party to find you before the toasts,” she said, standing up and brushing off her skirt.

“Don’t call me that,” he snarled.

“It’s your name, idiot.  Sanzo is your title, priesty boy,” she said.  “What’s wrong with you anyway?”

“What makes you thinks something is wrong with me?” he asked, glaring up at her.

“Easy, I’ve been here five minutes and you haven’t told me to fuck off yet,” Mai said.  “Come on, old man, evidently the toasts are waiting on you to get your ass back to the party.”

“Gods, I hate this shit,” he grumbled but got up.  Goku really would send out a search party for him but he was not in the mood for dancing, maybe drinking but not dancing.

“You’ll live.  Unfortunately for you.”

“What the hell makes you say that?” he snarled.

“Isn’t that what you’ve been trying to do all these years? Get yourself killed to join your Master,” she said, walking ahead of him in the direction of noise and light.

He frowned at her back.  Had he been? Really? It made him wonder.  Because, in all honesty, he’d never really cared if he got killed or not.  But he hadn’t been trying to pull a death by demon suicide.  Not that he knew of.

“Don’t overthink it, Koryu,” Mai said, shortening her steps and grabbing him by the hand and pulling him along with her.
