The Shield of Faith
Echoes in Time Chapter 18: The Shield of Faith
Martin's heart beat softly, as the monitors attached to him could be heard in his head. He was dreaming a wonderful dream once again, and did not mind if his eyes never opened again. He was sitting in his favorite bench in the gardens of Iason's Estate, his feet were wading in the pool that was filled with many multi-colored fish that tickled his toes, as they nibbled on them. The sun was descending to the horizon, and he could hear the wind chimes beneath the trees softly play their tunes. From the corner of his eye, he spotted a figure coming towards him. He was tall, with the most beautiful golden hair, and deepest blue eyes. Martin suddenly recognized the man as Iason, and he leaped off the bench and ran across the gardens and into his arms.
“My Lord! You have returned to Aristia! I was just thinking of you, and here you are!” Martin gave Iason a soft kiss on the cheek. He trembled with excitement, and playfully twirled Iason's hair in his fingers. “I have longed to see you my Lord, and now I feel I can die in peace, for time is short.”
“Dear Martin, this is not a dream...I am here. You must hang on to your life, and give me time to reach you. Please promise me little one, I will be most saddened should you pass.” Iason squeezed Martin in his arms before putting him down.
The young man had tears in his eyes, as Iason's words echoed all around him. He was now confused, as the scene changed, and he stood in a darkened room. Iason began to fade, and he panicked.
“Lord Mink! Where are you?” Martin extended his arms out before him, and grasped at the darkness. Suddenly a hand reached out and grabbed his.
“I've got you Martin, don't worry.”
Riki now appeared, and within moments, the darkness was pushed away by his gentle tempest. Martin felt Iason behind him, as the tall Blondie was reaching around his waist, making sure he did not fade again.
“My Lords! You are both here? How can this be? I don't know where I'm at myself. All I do know is that both Jake and I are injured, we were tortured, and questioned by these people who want answers about....about you Lord Iason. But Jake pissed them off, and they beat the crap out of us! I'll have to get him for that.” Martin made a face, as Riki smiled.
“Martin, we may know the reasons you were taken, and we want you to know that we are not going to abandon you.” Iason spoke softly, as Martin listened. “We are both still on Amoi, and we will be leaving shortly to rescue you. You need to hold on as long as you can.”
Martin wondered how they could have reached him all the way from Amoi. He was on Aristia, and that is far enough, let alone where ever they were being held now. Riki, and Iason then began to glow, and the room he was in, now resembled the room from his mind. He could see the chains where he and Jake were hung from. The stench of the room made Iason angry, to the point of trembling. His hair whipped angrily, at the sight of the blood stained chains.
“We were brought on board a ship, and tortured in this room. Jake was over there against the wall, and then he was brought where I was, on that T-stand over there- and he was chained facing me. I guess they thought they would make us talk if we were to see each other tortured. But Jake, he was given a truth serum, that didn't work, and he was actually telling them the truth about what he thought about them, and it pissed them off.” As Martin spoke, Jake suddenly appeared.
“Whoa! It's Lord Oskuro!” Jake yelled from across the room. He ran towards Martin, and the two embraced. “Martin! Is this real? It has to be, cuz I know I'm not like them, though I tried to call for you!”
Riki smiled, as he reassured Jake he was real, by softly punching him on the arm. Jake feigned injury, as the two playfully wrestled. Jake adored Riki, because he was just a regular guy...but with power.
“Martin, we need to know what these men want from you two.” Iason spoke, “We know it has to do with a “treasure,” and possibly a Lord Bastian. Is this the person who took you?”
“Lord Bastard, fits better,” Jake spoke, as his expression changed from joyous, to agitated. “That man is crazy! He struck Martin within an inch of his life! And he was pissed when they couldn't get anything out of us!”
“Well, Jake, why the hell did you have to piss them off? Do you know what your body looks like?!” Martin walked over to him, and turned him around. Riki and Iason were infuriated with the appearance of Jake's backside. It looked as if someone had taken a knife to it, and cut his flesh to ribbons.
Suddenly Riki winced, as the appearance of Jake's injuries made the two young men depressed, altering their appearance back to their injured forms, and the room started to dim. Iason quickly focused on Riki, to help him restore his own body.
“Lord Riki! Are you all right?!” Martin's panicked voice sounded loudly in Riki's mind, as Martin approached Riki. He looked at his face, as bruises and cuts began to appear, then turned Riki around, and was shocked to see his back show the injuries of both Jake and himself. He knew Riki's empathic abilities must have kicked in.
“Jake, Lord Riki is taking on our injuries! My Lord, you must leave! I can't bear to see you suffer as we do! Lord Iason, we beg you to depart, this is too much for one of us, let alone the two of us...it's just too much for him to take...” Martin's voice trembled, as he feared for Riki's life. But then out of the darkness, a strong arm appeared, and the light scent of mineral oil permeated the room. Iason looked at Riki's face, and he noticed he was smiling.
Kai suddenly appeared. He touched Riki's back, and spoke, “You are quite manipulative my son, your mother would be proud, knowing I would not stand to see you suffer. But here I am, as you wanted.”
Riki breathed deep, as the light of Raimen now shined on him, slowly healing his back. Jake and Martin were surprised to see these two men, as they had never met either of them, and yet there they were, like Iason and Riki.
“Young, man, I know you are far more powerful than this...” Raimen whispered into Riki's ear. “But I assume, you did this to intentionally draw your father into this arena.” Raimen smiled, as Riki gave him a small peck on his cheek.
“Martin,” Iason now spoke, “This is my father, Lord Raimen Mink, and that gentleman over there, is Lord Kai Oskuro, Lord Riki's father.”
Martin and Jake were dumbfounded, and awed by their appearance. They did not know these two men- these Ancients- had been brought back to life. Martin smiled at Riki's innocent expression, as Kai gave him a pointed look. His father was very tall, and he loved his long straight hair. Kai was most handsome, just like Riki. But Raimen to him was angelic in appearance, with is golden hair, floating serenely, as he healed Riki's back.
“They ARE Gods!!” Jake gasped, as he gawked at Raimen's sensual body over Riki, and Kai's muscular build. “I was right!”
Jake laughed victoriously, as if his captors could hear him, and waved his fist in the air. He walked up to Raimen, and reached up to touch his hair, as it danced serenely in the air. Raimen smiled sweetly, then suddenly hugged Jake.
“Oh! I love this one! Can we take him home now?” Raimen stroked Jakes curly black hair, as he held him tight. “Riki, is there anything we can do for them?”
Riki walked over to Martin, who dared not move away from Iason, fearing he might disappear from his sight. He was a bit frightened as Kai walked behind Riki, who was feeling equally protective of his son. Kai stopped in front of Martin and bent down.
“So you are this “Martin” we have heard so much about?” Kai was rather imposing, as he looked over Martin. “I hear, you were most valiant with Lord Raimen's son. I must say, I'm impressed with your courage little one.” Kai gave him an approving smile.
“T-Thank you most kindly...Lord Oskuro.” Martin gave him a weak smile, but held on to Iason's arm.
“Do I look so frighting young Martin? I'm not going to eat you.” Kai laughed. “Though, I'm not so sure about your friend Jake over there, as Lord Mink tends to fall in love with young ones such as you.”
Martin looked over towards Jake, who was in heaven as he looked at Raimen with such affection, he didn't care why they were there, but was happy all the same. Riki and Iason discussed what they could do to help them.
“We can probably attempt to heal and strengthen them, as we did in the hot springs. Now that we can navigate this distance, we should be able to help them heal enough until we arrive.” Riki suggested.
Iason agreed, “Well, if you can manifest their injuries, we should be able to heal them a bit, maybe even place a protective shield over them. We would have to be cautious, because if they appear too healthy, this might bring up some red flags to their captors.”
Kai nodded, “I agree, we need to be stealth-like, avoiding too much attention coming their way. By the looks of their injuries, they more likely are recovering right now, I doubt they would risk more injuries to them, and as we know, there is more serum on the way.”
“Serum?” Martin asked, “What serum? They tried to use a truth serum on Jake, but Jake was quite strong, at least mentally. Physically, they kicked our ass.”
“There is a serum en route to you as we speak,” Iason explained, “They have obtained a new serum, that we fear will break through the mental blocks Lord Am put in place.”
“Oh..so that is what happened...” Jake spoke, “I was wondering why they injected that stuff in me. Boy was Lord Bastard pissed off!”
“Speaking of old cyclops..” Riki spoke, “What did he want to know?”
Martin sighed, “He wanted to know about Lord Iason. Specifically- what we did as Medics to make him “heal” as fast as he did.” Martin thought on this, “But the funny thing is, he had the answer in his own two hands. Jake and I were returning to the ship, but we made a stop to pick up some jars of the mineral oils, and lotions from your Estate Lord Iason. Jathan had prepared a batch for us to take on our new job. They worked wonders for you, and Jake always ordered it on all our missions.”
“Oh- and they wanted to know what happened on Rhea,” Jake added, “They wanted to know what happened to all the Elders, and in particular, he asked about the “Vault of Specimens.” But we didn't say anything to Lord “Bastard.” Jake was a bit smug with his minor victory.
“So it appears this Lord Bastian was in league with the Elders from Rhea.” Iason spoke, “It seems there was more to Lord Bastian than he let on.”
“I knew cyclops was being too friendly,” Riki added, “He was really desperate to get into bed with you Iason. But he was really messed up after the Ios was hit.”
Kai listened to Iason and Riki's conversation, he thought of all the plots he was a victim of, when the Elders and he warred against each other. After centuries of battle, they had tried every trick in the book to assassinate him. He lost many good men.
“Perhaps, it is more simple than we are making it out to be Riki.” Kai spoke, “It is said that the truth is the first casualty of war. And I know war. It may be that this “Bastian” was not kept in the loop, and he was easily disposed of. Cannon fodder for the greater good. Or in this case involving Elders, the greater evil- one that still festers in the current era. You must understand the enemy, if you are to defeat them. And if these descendent's of the Elders were anything like their ancestors, then Bastian was probably of no consequence to them.”
Raimen was still clinging to Jake, truly enjoying the sensations of this “mind's eye.” doing all his “scientific observations,” while the others spoke. He found the link to be a complete merge between Riki and Iason, and found that when Martin or Jake thought of what happened to them, the scene changed. First the image of Martin on Aristia, then the cell where he and Jake were tortured in. But now they were all standing in the middle of the a darkened room, and he wondered who's thoughts were prevailing in this room.
“Father? What are you thinking?” Iason interrupted Raimen's thoughts, as he was spaced out trying to figure who was projecting this scene.
“Oh, well, while all of you have been speaking, I've been wondering who's mind we are now in. This room is dark, but I do detect some images in the shadows.” Raimen pointed to some dim lights off to the side. They all looked around, and then Jake spoke up.
“That would be me.” Jake tugged at Raimen's arm, “I was awake when they took us to the infirmary. I was looking at Martin being treated.”
The scene changed, and the room began to come into focus. Iason and Riki saw the two of them lying on exam tables. Jake was screaming at Martin to awaken, while the medical team held him down. Martin was being treated by a cigarette smoking surgeon, who was cursing at a tall man, and two other men.
“That is Gerard, the one who tortured us, see? He's got a whip on his belt. And the two idiots next to him are the guards who brought us to the infirmary. Martin was barely alive when they brought us there...” Jake began to fade as the scene returned to their cell, and the memory of him awakening to find Martin in his cot played out before them.
Martin watched, as Jake cried against the wall, demanding to be turned around, to see Martin. He also began to fade, and his last memory of crawling over to Jake's cot was played. Jake cried.
“You fool Martin, you should have stayed in your cot! Look at you, lying there- you wouldn't move, you wouldn't answer me, and you would not let me go!”
The two of them began to fade, and it was not because of their sadness, as Martin reached out for Iason's arm. Jake panicked as he also tried to hold Martin, but he was gone.
“Where is he?! Where is Martin?” Jake looked at Iason, who guessed he may have been awakened. He didn't want to think of the other possibility.
Jake began to shake, as he began to swoon. Raimen tried to revive him, but found he couldn't. Riki then reached out, and with a soft tempest blowing around him, held on to Jake.
“Jake! They may be trying to wake you up...or you may be having a setback in your treatment. If you and Martin are woken up, make sure you two do not speak about our visit. We will try to reach you both again later on. Stay strong Jake, watch out for Martin, I think he is still not out of the woods yet.”
Riki's last words faded in Jake's mind, as he was roughly roused from his sleep by the sounds of alarms and shouting voices. He opened his eyes to see Martin being taken to another room, he could hear the doctor giving orders, and then the door closing behind him.
Jake closed his eyes, thinking of Riki and Iason. Were they still in his mind? Or were they gone? He could not hear them anymore, but he felt a glimmer of hope that they would be rescued. Jake's heart was heavy as Martin was not faring well.
~*~
“Riki! Riki we must go back!” Iason's voice was desperate, as he looked at his arm, he could still feel Martin's grip. “He's still holding on to me, I can feel him...can't you?!”
Riki was breathing heavily, as he awoke from his meditative state. He was winded, as much of his energy was drained in their long distance trip, and when he looked at Petros, the Elder was near fainting. Kai was holding Riki in his arms, true to form, not allowing anyone near his son. Toma was trying to give Kai some water to give to Riki, and his hair began to softly float. He was anxious for Riki, whose powers he now clearly understood. He saw the lacerations on his back, and the bruises on his face, and did not want to see him do that again, so soon after their return.
“Iason, the connection is weak, cuz we're weak right now. But don't panic, Martin said they had jars of that mineral stuff with them didn't he?” Riki reached out to Iason who was visibly shaking from both exhaustion, and worry. Martin could be felt around Iason, and even Riki picked it up. He wondered if it was just residual imprinting of Martin on Iason, or was Martin close enough to the minerals to remain attached to Iason's arm?
“Iason, I think Martin is still with you. Keep concentrating on him, We can use the minerals here, and there- to act as a catalyst, and give him a boost of energy.” Riki looked at Kai and Raimen, “But I will need you two to help this time. Iason and I can get us there, but only with your power, I am wiped out.”
“Wait my Prince...” Came the weak voice of Petros, “You need me as the catalyst. I was the catalyst for you and Lord Iason in the hot springs. Only an Elder can do this. I will need your attendant to get a hold of my party, and have them come to assist us.”
“I'll have them here shortly, Petros.” Odi chimed in, “I know where they are staying, and it should take me only a few minutes.”
Iason nodded to Odi, and he quite literally- ran out of the penthouse. Iason would not let go of Riki's hand, as if feeling Martin would vanish from his grip. Raimen got off the floor, and retrieved the mineral jars, and lotions, and waving at Toma and Daryl, the three of them began to rub more lotion on the three.
“What are you doing Raimen?!” Kai protested, as Raimen began to strip Kai's clothes off his body, and poured lotion in his hands.
“I am going to help, and so are you love, now don't be an ass, and let me get you all lubed up. Riki only placed a little bit on you, when you rubbed this on him, and if you would have done this earlier, you may have been more powerful, in light of the mineral's chemical reaction to our powers.”
“I thought you didn't believe in all this mystical magic and whatnot Raimen?” Kai teased, “So now are you a believer?”
“Well, as a scientist, I see the logic in these minerals resonating with them, in particular. However, these minerals did react to you and I when I healed Riki, and you lent him your strength. So there. Now be a good father, and let me lube you up some more!” Raimen's eyes lit up when Kai smiled at his ministrations. Raimen was being too assertive, and this, coupled with the fact that he was oiling him up, was rather arousing.
Riki just shook his head, as he picked up on his father's thoughts. Those two could find any situation to be arousing, truly proving his theory that they were just sex maniacs. But what he did like, was that loyalty ran deep between them. Toma was rubbing the mineral lotion on Petros, as the Sage began to meditate once again, preparing for his Clansmen to join him. Riki, he felt, was too weak for this, but he knew it would do no good to try and talk him out of it.
Daryl was working on Iason, whose mind was focused on this feeling he had on his arm. Could Martin truly be hanging on to him from such a long distance? He thought of his joy when he first saw him in the garden. Martin was so happy, and he glowed with pride. He pictured him in his mind, and softly whispered his name. He could see Riki's thoughts, he was anxious, but also, he was very happy to feel his father's strength.
Kai would not move, regardless of how Raimen applied the lotion, and it made Iason smile weakly at his father's change of heart, with regards his bond with Riki's in their minds eye.
Kai looked over at Petros, whose forehead perspired as he tried to hold on to what Iason was feeling on his arm. He looked at his features, recalling the many Elders he knew before the wars, and wanted to put faith in him, and the group of Elders that were on their way. He would have to bridge that gap, as Riki had, and try to see that not all was lost.
Raimen had finished lubing him up, and was now being attended by Daryl, who fussed around the tall Intellect, who would not stand still. Raimen was anxious over Iason, he had never seen his son so attached to anyone, other than Riki. But he could see the love he had for Martin. He perhaps saw Martin as a younger brother, which was a shock to him. Iason was too much into his own interests, to really have any close relationships, that is why he sent him off into space. Iason needed to learn about people of all walks of life, and not just what new knowledge he could pick up. Ian was the only other person he doted on, much like this Martin.
True to his word, Odi returned with a dozen Elders, who rushed into the room with jars of mineral lotions and oils. It was something to see the elderly men, all strip down to their undergarments, and rub oil on each other. Rather bizarre to Kai and Raimen, but also to Riki and Iason. As the Elders sat down and immediately began to meditate on Riki and Iason, the two began to transform once again; Kai and Raimen watched as Riki's eyes darkened, and a tempest was kicked up.
It was a powerful one, and he softly began to float off the fur rugs. Kai pulled him down next to him, and when he transformed, the Elders felt the surge of power being released by Kai. Raimen knelt down beside him and whispered.
“Kai, my love. Focus on Riki, do not let these men distract you. They are not evil, they are your son's faithful. They love Iason and Riki as if they were their own, and you need to let them help. Now, back down a bit, and let Riki reach out...release your fist Kai.”
It was the same thing Riki had told him. He wasn't transformed to boost Riki, no- he was anxious over having a dozen Elders using their inner powers towards Riki. Something he still could not accept. But as Raimen whispered in his ear, his eyes softened, and he released his grip around Riki's waist.
“Good, that 's right, let's help our sons Kai, and those two young ones wherever they are being held.”
Riki began to reach out, feeling energized once again. He and Iason both focused on his feeling Martin on his arm. Soon they were once again transported across time and space, and with the aid of the Elders, they were resonating with the minerals. Although they could not see what this looked like back in the penthouse, they could certainly feel it. It was like riding a wave in the ocean, and the wind was the surge that propelled them.
Toma and Daryl watched, as they felt the warmth of the minerals in their hands, and felt the surge of power course through their bodies. The dozen Elders along with Petros, were softly meditating, but what truly was exciting, was seeing the Ancients all transformed. Odi and Ayuda stood guard, not that they felt they were in danger, but just out of habit, as the penthouse was full of very important guests. The household came to a standstill, as the surge of energy was felt in the air, and the doors to the pools were blocked by everyone trying to get a view of this spectacle.
This was not lost to Jupiter, whose sensors began to light up indicating a dangerously high surge of energy was radiating from the penthouse. She appeared in the foyer, nearly scaring the household to death, as she began to walk down the corridors through the use of Iason's security cameras.
She parted the sea of watchers, and found Odi standing close to the group. She was curious as to why the Ancients were all undressed, and their bodies covered with oil. She ran her scans, to find the mineral contents, and interestingly, found the compounds in the oils, to be native to Amoi. She approached Odi, who was surprised to see Jupiter in the penthouse.
“Odi, what is the meaning of this?” Jupiter raised her hand and pointed to the group.
“Lady Jupiter, the Ancients, that is- Riki and Iason, have apparently located the two medics who were abducted on Aristia. Iason and Riki have bridged the gap, with the aid of the Elders, and Lord Fathers. Iason is holding on to Martin, see Iason's face looking down at his arm? Martin we believe, is holding on to Iason in his mind's eye, and Lord Riki, along with Lord's Kai and Raimen, are going to heal them, and strengthen them enough to give us time to reach them. At least, that is the goal.”
Jupiter looked at everyone in the room, and then wondered about the group of Elders; surprised to see that Kai was sitting among them so calmly, considering the company he kept.
“Odi, what is the purpose of this group of Elders?
“Elder Petros indicated that he is a sort of catalyst, that allows Riki and Iason to travel through space and time, as only they have the ability of the mind's eye. The minerals in the lotions and oils they are using, somehow resonate with the Ancients. The mineral is quite powerful when used by the Ancients. Apparently, the two Medics were transporting these same minerals, used in their healing of injuries to their ship- when they were abducted.
They believe that the medics are in close proximity of these minerals on their end, enabling the connection from here to wherever they are being held. The group of Elders are being used, because Elder Petros had used up much of his own power, requiring the additional Elders to strengthen the bond. Lord Riki became fatigued on their first trip.”
“First trip?” Jupiter was amazed at all the information Odi had just given. “This is the second? Is there any danger to Lord Riki or the others?” Jupiter became alarmed when she now took a closer look at Kai, who held Riki in his embrace. But also noticed Raimen had one hand placed on Riki's back, and the other on Iason's.
“At first, the bond drained both Lord Riki and Iason. Elder Petros was weakened, thus the need for additional Elders. But they seem to all be doing well this second time around. I hear this is what it was like when the Elders on Aristia helped Iason and Riki on Rhea. The minerals are quite dense on that planet, with all it's volcanic activity. Aristia is also quite dense in minerals..”
“Armah's Love, yes, I've read the accounts by all parties involved.” Jupiter interrupted. “The only two who truly resonate with these minerals are Riki and Iason. Because of their bond through Agetha's Halo.” Jupiter continued to monitor the event, taking readings of all their bodies, the energy levels, and their facial expressions, of which she was unable to experience herself. She was a bit envious at being unable to have such a bond. She quietly stood by Odi, softly humming as she now heard Iason speak.
“Martin...Martin, I am here...” Iason whispered, as he stood by the young man who laid in a bed. His hand tightly gripped around Iason's wrist. He could see the monitors all around him, and could see he was being given a hypo-transfusion. Martin was very weak.
Martin could hear the soft whisper of Iason's voice. It seemed far away, and he could barely hear it. He wanted to believe Iason was right there, but didn't think it was possible. He had faded out of his mind, and knew it was not possible for him to be back so soon.
“Martin...open your eyes little one...” Came the voice of Iason once again. This time, Martin heard Iason more clearly. He stirred in his bed, and slowly opened his eyes. Iason was looking down on him, and he was near tears.
“My....Lord....how?” Martin weakly spoke, “How is this possible...?”
“Shh, don't speak, we won't tax you Martin, we have come to strengthen you. The jars of minerals, are making this possible, and we have new friends, to strengthen our visit.” Iason spoke softly.
Riki now appeared next to Iason, and so did Kai and Raimen. The four Ancients then placed their hands over Martin, and slowly infused the young man with their inner power. Martin could feel the warmth of Riki's heart, and the strength of Kai's power. His heart began to beat stronger as Raimen's healing touch washed over him, but it was Iason's love, that he felt most of all.
In the room where he was being attended to, the doctor and the medical team were surprised when his monitors began to sound off, with the increase in his vitals. The doctor had prepared to report to Lord Bastian that the young man was dying, when he saw Martin's hand begin to twitch. His breathing increased, and his heart was beating harder. He had no explanation as to why this was happening.
What he did not see, and could have never known, was that the jars of mineral oils and lotions in Jake's pack, were glowing, as they resonated with Riki and Iason. The Elders continued to keep the connection open, allowing Riki and Iason to make the journey back to Martin.
Kai watched, as Riki and Iason gazed down upon Martin. The young medic watched Iason intensely, as his body was renewed, and he spoke.
“M-My Lords, you are all so beautiful...you are truly beautiful.” Martin smiled sweetly.
“You must stay strong Martin,” Iason whispered, “You have to hold on long enough for us to find you..now obey me little one, or I'll be most crossed with you.” Iason smiled.
“What about Jake?! Are you gonna help him too?” Martin inquired about his friend, with wide eyes.
“Oh, we'll pay him a visit in a moment, sweet thing..” Raimen spoke softly, as he looked at Martin's expression. “He is doing well, but we will also strengthen him, and let him know you are doing better.”
“ok...” Martin yawn.
“Martin, you will show a dramatic change in vitals, and your doctor will wonder why, but you need to just play the part, and stay down and just rest. Offer no explanation, and just make him believe he did all the work.” Iason advised. “We are certain that you are being taken to the outskirts of Rhea, so that should take you about 3 days. We will depart in a about an hour, and keep infusing you and Jake as we travel towards you.”
“Please have a safe journey my Lords...” Martin slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Iason's eyes became filled with tears, as he watched Martin sleep. He moved a stray hair from his eyes, and touched his cheek. Iason and Riki next headed for Jake, who they could hear crying in his mind. He was distraught over Martin, and could not be comforted. Iason and Riki saw that he was being sedated, and Iason's face went from one of sadness, to one of anger, as his hair whipped around angrily.
“Calm down son,” Raimen was heard to say, but Iason was furious. “You need to help them, not put them in further danger by killing his captors...that will have to wait for a few days. Besides, if you do something that brings attention to them or us, you could cost them their lives.”
“Iason, let's go to Jake, and let him know that Martin is ok.” Riki spoke, as he reached out and held Iason's hand. They made their way to Jake, who was now drifting in sleep, after being sedated by the medical attendant.
“Jake, can you hear me?” Riki's voice echoed in Jake's mind. “Jake wake up, we're back.”
“Lord....Riki? How...how is Martin? Is he ok? I saw him being taken to another room, and he was not doing well, and then they sedated me!” Jake's face was in a panic, as he opened his eyes to find the four Ancients standing over him.
“Hi Jake,” Raimen smiled. “Just relax young man, you will do yourself more harm if you don't calm down.”
“Martin is going to be ok Jake,” Riki spoke, “We treated him, and he should do much better with a few days rest.” Riki sat on Jake's bed, as he focused on his injuries. “Now, let us heal you, as we did Martin....don't be afraid.”
Jake watched as the four began to transform, and restore his body, just as they did for Martin. He felt the warm energy from the four, and sighed deeply, as his body relaxed, and felt wonderful. Riki's strength was felt in his tempest, which Jake truly loved. Raimen was quite fond of Jake, and so his healing touch was extra special, as he was truly smitten with the young man.
“Wow! I feel like I can fly!” Came Jake's cry, as he sat up on the bed.
“Now Jake, you will have to tone down your appearance of recovering.” Iason warned, “We told Martin, we'd catch up to you two near Rhea. So look for us soon. Fight the serum if it's used before we get there. We will be infusing you with more power, as we get closer, and will try and prevent the serum from working, so don't be anxious.”
“Now young man,” Kai spoke, “You will have to be a true Warrior, and watch over your friend.”
Jake looked down at his hands, “Yes, Lord Oskuro. Thank you for caring about two...”
“You will not utter those words Jake,” Iason interrupted the young medic, “You are indeed important to us, and you are worthy of our attention. You and Martin- saved my life. I will never see you as anything less than my dearest friends.”
Jake smiled, as he looked up at Iason and Riki. “Thank you my Lord's...all of you.” Jake began to fade, as the Ancient's touch diminished, and the tranquilizer took over, and he fell asleep.
Iason felt a surge of relief, as the four of them began to awaken from their meditative state. Iason looked over at Riki who was being held by Kai. He was fast asleep, exhausted from his travels. Iason felt just as weak, and when he looked at all the Elders, they were not alone.
Jupiter had gone stealth-mode, wanting to now observe them. She watched Kai cradle Riki in his arms, softly rocking him. Raimen could sense her presence, but ignored her altogether, as he smiled at Kai's protective nature returning. Riki was wise in his handling of Kai, pulling him out from behind his armor, to interact with the living. They would all sleep on board the ship, as they all were about to embark on mission with many unanswered questions, save one. Lord Bastian wanted the Vault of Specimens, so it was safe to say, he had plans of his own, when the Elders hung him out to dry.
*~*~*
Raoul was going over the star charts, as Sir Luis punched in the coordinates. They were going to be working side by side once more, and this time, they were both on the same page from the start. Raoul had said his goodbye's to Yui, once again leaving the young man in tears. But at his insistence, Yui was told to pack up for a few days, and join Iason's household so he would not be alone. The night had been incredible to them both, and Raoul felt a surge of life he had never felt before in the arms of Kai. He could feel his mind wondering off to a place still blurred by fog, and he knew it would not be long, before he crossed it.
Sir Luis also enjoyed his assignment at the gala, grateful that no one breached security, and the fact that the Ancients released so much energy made the night one of his easiest assignments to date. He did however, feel anxious over this mission. There would be six awakened Ancients, that included Omaki and Argent, and he didn't know what to make of them yet. But one thing was certain, all the things he once saw in the notoriously perverted Blondie, were now set aside. Omaki and Argent had embarked on a dangerous, and life-ending mission for Lady Yuri Mink all those centuries ago. Their daily activities placed their lives at risk of death, and exposure over the span of three centuries, and that was impressive enough to warrant respect.
The return of Lord Kai to the leadership of Amoi, was one the Firm was most proud of. His biography was required learning for all members of the Shield of Honor. As direct descendant's of the Warrior Clans, the members all wanted to join this mission to Rhea, but this would bring too much attention to their goal of being unseen. Lord Hector Stone was quite proud, that Ayuda was Lord Iason's Sentinel At Arms, and no higher honor could be held for such a young one from the Firm. But Ayuda was experienced with the Ancients, and valued by Lord Mink. He saw Ayuda off at the space dock, wishing him well.
“Be safe my son, survive the day.” Lord Stone embraced Ayuda, who looked quite dashing in his Sentinel's uniform. “I believe this mission, will be extraordinary Ayuda, so don't leave your Lord's side. You are his shadow, and as such, you must become the set of eyes that sees what he may miss. You must do all you can, to keep him safe.”
“Thank you father, I shall.” Ayuda returned the embrace, “Though I feel, I am in the presence of giants, in the company I keep. Lord Mink will have me guarding his back, though I fear, whoever is at the receiving end of his wrath, will fear nothing from me, should he be found by him first.”
“Yes, this Lord Bastian is a rogue I fear. His family line has all but disowned him, and he keeps foul company in his trade. Lord Iason was wise in not doing business with that bottom dweller. I hear his father is not to be taken for granted either, so do not discount his ability to interfere, should this become a public scrimmage.”
“I will keep this in mind. I must go now, the Ancients must all be on board by know; Lord Iason and Lord Riki arrived about an hour ago, and are resting. They need it after their little trip earlier this morning. I'll send word to you when possible.”
Lord Stone watched as his son boarded the ship. The “Sentinel's Chariot” was as secretive as it's name was powerful. Kept under a cloak of secrecy at the Firm, this sleek intergalactic cruiser, was rumored to have been designed after Lord Kai's personal flag ship. Raoul had trained on it, and earned his wings when he was a student of Sir Luis. It must be fate, that he would now fly it with the Royal's on board, and he in the role of a true Sentinel at Arms. The ship was used only by members of the Firm, on the many missions to retrieve specimens for Jupiter, and by no coincidence was used to bring the remains of Iason from Aristia.
Raoul never caught on to it's given name, as she was named after the Sentinels of ancient history. The fleet of ten such ships were used on many diplomatic missions by the royal family, and two were assigned for use by Iason and Riki. Kai had the first model, which was lost when the wars broke out. Little did anyone know that it was Omaki and Argent who had taken the ship under the orders of Lady Yuri. Raoul felt an itch in the back of his mind, as if the memories in his head were teasing him with vague notions of familiarity.
They anticipated the discovery of where the Maiden's might be found, so Lord Ghan's presence was required. Both he and Argent knew that area of space, since they traveled on so many missions. He hoped that they would recall this, as they traveled the many beacons laid along the Path of the Ancients; paths they themselves launched so many centuries ago. Many still active, yet rarely used as that part of Jupiter's matrix was missing, taken by one young Omaki Ghan.
Raoul was waiting for all to board, and the only ones missing were Argent and Omaki. Heiku was once again on board along with Elder Petros, who was proud of his first mission with the Flame and Tempest. He was the envy of all his peers, and since the link was strengthened by the aid of the Elders, two were invited to join the mission, should the need arise, and a catalyst was required. Petros chose Elders Shinyo, and Kohta, two of the stronger Sages that had accompanied him on his diplomatic mission to Amoi. He hoped there would be no need to use their inner powers for anything, other than be used as a tool for Riki and Iason. But he knew if they were placed in danger -as before- these two Elders would not hesitate to act in defense of the Royals.
“Where in the world are Omaki and Argent?” Raoul was pacing near the dock, when Omaki and Argent approached the ship, and they were not alone. Raoul stopped in his tracks, as Omaki was leading a very confused Yousi by the hand. Argent carried his bag, along with a handful of some rather old scrolls.
“What is the meaning of this? Omaki have you lost your mind?” Raoul pointed to Yousi, “You can't seriously think, he will be helpful on this mission, he can barely understand what day it is, let alone communicate to us!” Raoul was not pleased with Omaki's stubbornness, as Omaki passed Raoul and headed up towards the entrance.
“Omaki!” Raoul blocked his access, “This has not been approved by Jupiter, nor the Royals, and I wager, you did not explain it to Yousi himself.”
Omaki handed Yousi to Argent, as the two now continued to board. Omaki looked at Raoul, and without hesitation, spoke.
“Yousi's condition is not my doing, now is it? Hm? He was acting on his “natural” course as an Ancient, and because this was not seen as a possible awakening, his mind was manipulated by YOU. I won't judge you Raoul, now that I see you had no choice in the matter, however, Yousi holds vital information in that brain of his, and I feel if he is exposed to the Royal's, as I was, as you were, then I believe he may return to us. He also was doing exactly as Argent reported to you and Jupiter- that being- he was guarding the data crystal all along. But I will brief you and the Royals when we enter the “Path of the Ancients.”
“He is important Raoul, maybe not to you- but he is to me and Argent. Omaki was our closest and dearest friend, who sacrificed his life, in guarding that crystal. Jupiter had no idea, his actions were actually in her best interest, and for that, she lost out on the very thing she was looking for. This is all in his mind now, and it must be unlocked if we are to find the Maidens. So don't be an ass Raoul, you yourself will soon awaken, and will see the importance of Yousi's presence.”
Raoul could not believe what he just heard. Yousi had the knowledge that Jupiter wanted, was looking for, and needed all along- and she robbed him of it? Raoul sighed, as he felt the guilt of his actions, weigh heavy on his conscious, he never wanted to manipulate Yousi's mind. He was a close friend and lover of Heiku, who along with Iason, was part of close circle of Blondies. They were all enrolled in the Elite Academy, strategically placed together by Jupiter herself.
“Do you know where the data crystal is Omaki?”
“No. I do not. Argent was the last to know, and he said Yousi was guarding it, and unfortunately, he is unable to do that in the condition he's in. I wanted to see if the Royal's might be able to “fix” him.”
“I can't fault your reasons Omaki, but you have to also see my point of view. He is at risk, and I don't mean because of his mental capacity as much as a security risk. What if he awakens to realize Jupiter robbed him of his mind? He can jeopardize the lives of everyone on board, and that means the Royal's will be in danger.”
“You have got to be kidding me- the Royal's in danger?” Omaki laughed out loud, “Iason and Riki are a far more dangerous “variable” with their powers, than any of us combined. As long as they don't blow up the ship with their naughty liaisons between here and there, it's safe to say Yousi won't be a danger to anyone on board. Now if you don't have a better excuse than this one, we should be off, as there is a group of ladies that need to be escorted home.”
Raoul felt this was not a wise decision, and Jupiter may have him standing tall before her if she found out, and of course, Jupiter always did. But Raoul also could not deny that Yousi could help the mission in the long run, that is - if he remembers where the data crystal was.
“Very well, but I am holding you responsible for his actions Omaki, and awakened or not- you are still a pain in the ass!” Raoul shook his head, as Omaki bowed with pride. “By the way...what the hell are you wearing?” Raoul looked at Omaki's attire, and would have laughed if he wasn't angry with him.
Omaki looked down, and smiled, “Oh this? It's just a little number I put together. Since you have a really important looking uniform, and the bodyguards have flashy leather uniforms, of which I just adore by the way- I decided to make my own. Do you like it?” Omaki spun around to show off.
He was dressed in his usual black leather, but since he was an Intellect, decided to add a little romantic touch to compliment his long beautiful hair by adding a black silk shirt that buttoned high on his neck, and a black leather jacket, that hugged his waist. He had a black belt, equipped with a whip, and of all things a Class-1 laser knife, which Raoul knew were only authorized to be used by military personnel, due to their 18 inch length laser blade. One would have to have specialized training in hand to hand combat to wield it. And if that was not enough, he spotted two pairs of laser wrist cuffs, and a row of sonic concussion grenades attached to his belt.
“Omaki, do you even have clearance to have such an arsenal on you? I'm certain that Class-1 laser knife is not street legal.” Raoul gestured at the knife, as Omaki pulled it off his belt.
“Oh you mean this little thing?” Omaki pressed the knife's button at the hilt, and the amber blade appeared. Omaki deftly twirled it in the air, and demonstrated skills in his handling of the very dangerous weapon. “You see Lord Am, in the few hours I've been awake, I remembered such a knife in my previous life, and it looked similar to this one. Although this was the longest blade available on such short notice. I believe you will be surprised, at what Lord Jensen and I had to learn, in the 3 centuries of underground travel we had to make. We learned to adapt, respond, and kill- to safeguard our mission. We did not play war games in some Academy, we lived it.”
Omaki grew serious, as Raoul watched his movements. Omaki's eyes betrayed his emotions, as the past replayed in his mind. Omaki was not his jovial self, as he now turned off the laser knife, and returned it to his belt, giving Raoul a leveled glance. He tilted his head a bit, and gave Raoul a weak smile.
“So you see Lord Am, Lord Yousi, will join us, because he knows what lies on the other side of the Path. And along with Lord Argent and myself; we three know the darkness that lurks there. At least, that is how I remembered it.”
Raoul could see that there was more to Omaki's story, and now wanted very much to hear it. His awakening could not have come at a better time, given the circumstances of their mission.
“Very well, then we must be off Lord Ghan,” Raoul gestured towards the ship, “We have delayed enough, and we must leave, as a new development has come up.”
Raoul and Omaki entered the ship, and made for the bridge, where Sir Luis was making final preparations. He had been listening to their conversation through the security equipment at the main gate. He was very interested in this story as well, and found Lord Ghan's countenance to be more Warrior-like than Intellect. He also wondered what -if any- special powers he and Lord Jensen would manifest. He could not imagine being on a mission for 3 centuries, and not have grown thick skin, considering what they were doing.
According to Raoul, he indicated that Omaki and Argent smuggled the remains of the female population to an undisclosed planet in the vast unknown part of space, on the other side of The Path of the Ancients. He knew the tombs had been raided on Amoi, and most of the familiar territories of space. The Vault of Specimens did yield most of the male population gathered by the Elders, but the female population was lost - or so they believed - up until Jupiter confessed her missing entries.
Raoul entered the bridge along with Omaki. “Sir Luis, it appears there will be an additional member to our team.” Luis gave Omaki the once over, as he took in this attire, and had to admit- it was a bit over the top, but then his eyes caught sight of what was on his utility belt, and found no humor in the arsenal he was carrying.
“Is it wise to have such weapons out in the open? Tell me no one saw you approach the boarding docks with them exposed?”
Luis was teasing, yet his voice was steady, as he made eye contact with Omaki, who did not avert his own gaze. This was not the same man he knew several hours before at the gala. That Omaki was having too much of a good time, dancing and making Lord Iason fume at his having spiked the food. He even laughed when he learned of his attempt to record Iason and Riki in a compromising position, that backfired on him in the most comical way.
“I assure you Sir Luis, that I was quite invisible to the public. Though Jupiter may not appreciate my latest pranks of earlier tonight, I assure you, Lord Jensen and I are veterans of a time before she was even sentient. I believe Lord Kai, will find us useful where we are going.”
“And that would be where Lord Ghan?”
Omaki turned around to find Lord Kai standing near the hatch to the bridge. He had been standing there long enough to catch most of the conversation. The three men bowed respectfully, as he entered the deck of the bridge.
“My Lord,” Raoul addressed him, “I thought you were resting.”
Kai walked towards the pilot's seat, and looked at the coordinates plotted and ready to be engaged.
“I always tour the battlefield before the attack, Lord Am. This ship is quite impressive. I have been walking the corridors to see what the men were doing. You run a tight ship my Sentinel at Arms, and I see we have Lord Xu on board.”
Raoul looked at Omaki, who nodded towards Kai. So the Warrior Lord was aware of Yousi's boarding. Raoul found Kai's commanding presence to be encouraging, considering the scope of the mission itself. Like a Lord on the battlefield, Kai was looking over the ship, personnel, and for all he knew- he was looking at him.
“If you would like a more thorough tour my Lord, I would be honored to walk with you.” Raoul gave Kai a warm smile. This was going to be awkward, at best, considering they were locked in a lovers embrace for most of the night, a short while ago. Kai was completely in battle mode, and he knew this Warrior Lord was eager to get underway.
“Yes, I think I would like that Lord Am.” Kai gave the faintest smile as he spoke, “In the mean time, if Lord Ghan would do us the honor to brief us as to his reasons for bringing Lord Yousi on this mission, I would much appreciate it.”
“Of course my Lord,” Omaki answered, “I will stow away my belongings, and prepare my report.”
“Very well, make sure you bring Lord Xu to the briefing, I am anxious to see him.”
Omaki bowed as Kai and Raoul left the bridge. He was relieved that Yousi was not an issue to the Warrior Lord, and was eager to bring Yousi before him. He wondered what Heiku would say, once he sees his old lover on board. He figured he'd be happy, that- or would make a bee line to him and kick his ass. Either way, he left the bridge and headed to his quarters. Argent probably had Yousi settled in, and he was eager to see if the light of awareness would once again grace his face.
The tour of the ship was really an excuse Kai brought up, hoping to get some time alone with Raoul, and was quite pleased his Sentinel picked up on his train of thought. Raoul was quite polite and did not betray his own feelings of being so close to Kai. He did not know how to read Kai's emotions yet, as his memories were like one trying to catch the clouds. Raoul wanted the clouds to rain on him, as Kai did at the gala. His heart raced with the memories of Kai taking him several times, and he was so aroused to see Yui enjoy Lord Raimen's touch.
His thoughts betrayed his body, as Raoul became aroused, and he blushed slightly, when Lord Kai made eye contact. He would have to harness his new emotions, as this mission was not a luxury liner, and Kai was not his lover to take. He would need to put all that behind him, and take his role with all seriousness. Raoul lost his train of thought, as Kai's voice now brought him back to reality.
“Lord Am? I seemed to have lost you for a moment.” Kai stopped near the engine room hatch.
“Forgive me my Lord, I was lost in thought- with the new team member on board,” Raoul lied, “You were asking about the ship's engines?”
Kai knew Raoul's thinking was nowhere near the engine room, as the intuitive Warrior knew Raoul's thoughts were on him. He would love to take Raoul off to some dark corner, and ravish him all over again, but now was not the time, and he desired Raoul to remember him for the man he was, rather than just his body. Kai needed Raoul to be focused, so decided to break the ice, and get over this.
Raoul entered the engine room ahead of Kai, and as he turned to explain the spec's of the ultra efficient technology behind the ship's engines, Kai came up behind him, and turned Raoul around with his hand, then pressed his body against Raoul's, placing one hand behind his head, and wrapping the other around his waist.
“M-My Lord?” Raoul's muffled voice vibrated in Kai's mouth. Kai broke away, as Raoul gasped for air.
“I will not dance around you Raoul, let's just break the awkwardness you feel, and get this out in the open. I desire you much my young Sentinel, and I want you to share my bed often, but we are both warriors on a mission, and may not get the opportunity to have this exchange, so I will lead you on this embrace and hope you will follow.”
Kai kissed Raoul passionately, pulling him tight, and then pushing him against the wall. The engine room was empty at the time, and Raoul felt relieved to not attract any attention. He wrapped his arms around the tall Lord, and returned the kiss, much to Kai's delight. He moaned softly as Kai's hands moved over his body with a familiarity of an old lover, but found none in his own mind, even though his body seemed to crave his touch. Something he could not explain, but knew- it must have been this way once upon a time.
“You have no idea, my young Lord, how much I've missed your presence in my life. When I learned of my reanimation, I looked for you, for you were one of my last thoughts, before...I died. Then I saw you walking towards the medical labs, and could not believe my eyes.” Kai's gaze betrayed much more than sadness; his eyes became softened as if seeing Raoul gave him a piece of his heart he had lost, so long ago.
“I envy your thoughts, my Lord. I feel your familiar touch, and curse my lack of awareness.”
Raoul tenderly kissed Kai's lips with his eyes open, in attempts to peer into Kai's mind. Kai also shared this kiss with eyes open, as he also looked into Raoul's mind, hoping to trigger those very same thoughts. This rather erotic moment caused their bodies to respond, as both men were used to being the aggressor. Which posed a problem in deciding who would hunt, and who would surrender as prey.
“I will not press your thoughts Raoul, I will be patient. But I will take each opportunity -like this one- to peer into your mind, and wait for the moment, when your kiss will come with awareness. We shared much together, you and I, and I will not burden you with memories you can't recall. That would be cruel to us both.”
Raoul raised his hand to caress Kai's face, as he listened to Kai's sad tone. There must have been great suffering for the Warrior Lord in all the centuries of fighting. He wanted to comfort him, but understood Kai's words.
“I look forward to discovering, just what I meant to you my Lord. There is a blanket of fog in my mind, and I know I must cross it to get to you. It torments my every waking thought, as I am a man unaccustomed to being pursued, or hunted.” Raoul smiled, “This is actually out of my element, if truth be told, as I am the hunter in my wilderness, and not the prey.”
Kai kissed him once more, “Yes, that is the impression I have, as your strong embrace tells me you are no longer the prey. I recall you crossing that bridge, in a time once removed, where you became the Sentinel I grew to love, in a world gone mad.”
Kai placed his hand under Raoul's chin, “I know I've taken liberties in my feelings, and would hope you would forgive me. I know my position is overbearing at times, but this is just as frustrating to me as it is to you. To me, the memories are fresh, and the emotions are raw. I envy your lack of recall. I sometimes wish to forget all I've seen.”
Raoul raised his hands, and placed them on each side of Kai's head, and without thinking, softly pressed is forehead against Kai's. This took Kai by surprise, as he looked at Raoul; this was something Raoul of old would do, to ease his anxiety and set his mind at ease; especially when Kai was overcome with the loss of lives. But he would not tell him this, at least not yet.
“You are no longer alone my Lord, and you have been given the gift of renewal. I find it hard to get my mind around all that has occurred in these many months, beginning with Iason's abduction, and now the return of you and the Royal family. I believe, what awaits us on the other side of that sealed path, will go a long way in healing our hearts and minds.”
“That is just like you Raoul, to try to comfort me, especially on the eve of battle. I will look forward to see how you awaken, my dear Sentinel.” Kai embraced him once more. “Now let's get back to the tour of your magnificent vessel. I must admit, she is a quite an impressive ship, how long will it take us to arrive on Rhea?”
Raoul felt more at ease, as Kai's attention returned to the mission. He had to admit, he did break the ice and the awkwardness of their liaison earlier that evening.
“Well if we went the long away around, that is- using the trade routes, it would take us nearly 5 days. However, by taking the Path of the Ancients, we can be there in less than 3 days. Since we know they are expecting the truth serum, and not us, they will not be in any hurry. The element of surprise is on our side.”
“Excellent, then we'll use this time to get re-acquainted with Yousi. As soon as the young pups awaken, we will meet in the conference room and see what is hiding in that mess between his ears.”
Raoul felt guilty over Yousi, and turned his face away; and this was not loss on Kai. “Raoul, you have to get past this. If I know Yousi, and I did- he is still in there somewhere.”
Kai placed a hand on his hip, as he continued. He gestured with the other hand, at various instruments and controls, trying to ease Raoul's worries. And then spoke once again.
“If he's the third man in Omaki's team, then they were in good hands. Yousi was special. I thought he had been lost in battle. To know he was part of Omaki's mission, gives me hope that the Maidens are hidden well. Riki and Iason may be able to go in that noggin of his, and see where he's been hiding. Jupiter may have the technology, but that has paled in comparison to what those two have become.”
Kai placed his hand on Raoul's shoulder, “Now lead on Raoul, let's get a look at the rest of her.”

Omaki's Logs Part 11...
“Lord Ghan, could you explain this to me once more? I seem to have forgotten already.”
Monique bounced from one end of the great cavern to the other, as Omaki tried to finish placing the newest additions to the vault of specimens. It had taken nearly 10 years for Omaki, Argent and Yousi to carve the entrance of the cavern, using nothing but the sweat of his brow, and the strength of their backs. The tools needed were difficult to find, and they had to use unconventional means to meet their objective. At times, the job was quite daunting.
“Well, you see my dear, we will carve out this large cavern, and I know it does not seem like it now, given the tools we have at our disposal, but use your imagination. But I digress, yes; we will carve out this rather large cavern, reinforce it with these Titanium walls, and place our Mothers, daughters, and sisters to rest for a very long time.”
Omaki was leaning against a giant boulder, as the loud sounds of four rather large robots crushed some rocks near the entrance of the cavern. Monique had brought them some water, and as usual Omaki ran before the other two, as the young Lord loved to be the first to make Monique smile. She has been keeping watch over the specimens as the vault was being built, and loved it when Omaki and his two companions came with a new batch, not that receiving the dead was a reason to celebrate, but it was best to see it as a rescue mission of sorts. It was three days travel from Amoi to the mostly barren planet, and when they were there it was nothing but hard work for several months, and then the men left and did not return for yet several more months. It was dangerous work, and an even more dangerous trip home.
“Well, we will all perish if we wait for you to finish, and give us a chance to drink!” Argent complained, as Omaki deliberately moved in front of him and Yousi, preventing them from receiving a cup from Monique.
“I must complain Lord Ghan, you have monopolized young Lady Am far too long, and the day is going to waste while you sit around and smooze with the fair Monique.” Spoke Yousi, “I dare say that if Lord Raoul saw you flirting with his sister, he would most likely have you for lunch!”
“Well, we can't all be made of steel Lord Jensen, and I must remember to file a complaint with the one who had the notion to use these blasted buckets of bolts! They do nothing but waste precious fuel, and work as slow as molasses!” Omaki pointed at the four giant metallic men.
“Well if I do recall, it was YOUR idea Lord Ghan!” Argent laughed at Omaki's dirt-stained face. “You said, and I quote, “We should “borrow” these four metal wonders to do the work for us!” And what happened hm? They only do one thing, break rocks! They don't lift, move, or even dig!” Argent got his cup of water finally, and used it to douse Omaki with it.
“Now, now, don't be such a party-pooper Argent,” Omaki wiped the cool water off his face, “they have made our work lighter, and Yousi is trying to make them work more efficiently, is that not true Yousi?” Omaki winked at Yousi who was taking a drink of water, and nearly choked, as he laughed. “He did say he might be able to re-program, or re-wire them to at least dig; we have to just place them near the rock bed.” Omaki rolled his eyes, “And as far as lifting rocks, well, that is still a work in progress.”
Monique laughed at the three men, as they playfully wrestled. Their bodies had become thin with the lack of good food over the years, yet they never wavered in their tasks. Their beautiful blond hair was often covered with dirt, and their clothes was always tattered and torn. There were only a handful of women who watched over the specimens, and yet the three of them refused to allow them to work in the cavern. But some did when they were away, to fill the time, as the hardest part was the long years of loneliness they felt.
The recording devices would capture the images of the three laughing, while in the background Yousi could be seen fighting with one of the robots, kicking it as he tried to make adjustments to it's programming, and cursing up a storm.
100 years later...
“Lady Am, we must relocate the vault of specimens, we don't have much time, and must act in all haste.” Omaki shook the frightened Annabelle, she was in charge of the living guardians, who watched over the unfinished vault of specimens. She was expecting the next specimens to arrive in a few months, and it was unusual for Omaki to arrive earlier than scheduled.
“My Lord, what has occurred? And why must we move?” Annabelle quickly dressed, as Argent and Yousi woke the rest of the women, which consisted of the Am household, and a few younger maidens.
“I believe we may have been followed this last time, and we can't risk your lives, or the vault being discovered. We have found another uninhabited planet not too far from here, but we will have to leave much of your camp behind, and abandon the dig sight. The good news, -if there is such a thing- is that we won't have to dig much, as we found a chain of underground caves, we believe were carved out by an underground river. So at least this time, you will have a water source nearby, and we won't have to dig any wells. We can use one cavern for the vault, and the connecting caverns as a new home for your group. You can now live out of the elements, and stay warmer at night.”
Omaki tried to give her the upside of moving, knowing the women had suffered much being out in the elements for so long. There were no caverns on their world, and had to dig as it was, for just the vault of specimens. They had adapted well, over the decades, building some small huts initially, and then as more supplies came, they built some modest homes. Omaki had brought them as many household items to make their lives easier, but they could only carry so much, and with the wars on Amoi raging, it was not a priority on their list. They couldn't risk going to any other world, as the Elders were actively hunting for them.
Lord Ghan, is there any word of my husband? What do you know of Lord Rene?” Annabelle's voice was anxious, given the news they were being hunted.
“It is difficult to know, exactly my Lady.” Omaki hesitated, “I was only able to meet with Lord Rene for a brief time, and only to give him your letters. He has written you and your daughter some letters and I have them on board. But the wars are not going well, and Amoi, seems lost.”
“And Raoul?” Came the soft voice of Monique, “How is Raoul? I've had the most distressing dreams of him recently, and I can't shake the images of Lord Oskuro...is he still being shadowed by my father?”
Monique was well known for her inherited sixth sense, which was known to run among the women of the Am family tree. She was a twin, and so shared a close link to Raoul. It was said that when they were quite young, they could feel what the other was feeling, and if she was having such dreams, it was fair to say, Lord Oskuro was in danger.
Her emerald green eyes, just like her brother Raoul, mesmerized Omaki. Her fair skin had become sun tanned, and weathered, but she was still beautiful, with golden locks worn in one long braid. She was now wasting away, with the many years of hard work, but she never lost her charm.
“Lord Raoul, is well, I located him near the southern hemisphere, where we retrieved the last batch of specimens. I was able to speak with him briefly Monique, and he gave me this letter, and instructed me to give this to you.” Omaki opened his hand, which revealed a locket. Monique opened the locket to find the images of her father, and Raoul. Monique clutched it to her breasts, and cried.
“Thank you Lord Ghan,” Lady Annabelle kissed Omaki on the cheek, “You have given us a wonderful gift.”
“You are most welcome, now we must get you relocated, we have only a short window of time. Yousi was able to place some false beacons behind our path, so whoever runs into them will be most displeased to find the wormholes all lead to a meteorite belt, several light years removed.” Omaki smiled.
Yousi was quite intelligent in the technology department, and was a godsend to Omaki and Argent, who could not navigate the star charts to save their lives, when they first began their mission. After all, Omaki was an entertainer, and Argent was a keeper of the archives. The closest they had come to space travel, was joyriding with Yousi, who maintained Lord Kai's fleet. Yousi had been educating them in the many decades of star travel. He rarely took them on the same path twice, and had planted many false leads, to shake off anyone who followed them.
Relocation would take them nearly a month, as they worked tirelessly to undo all their hard work, that took them over a century to build. They took what livestock they could manage, seeds, and seedlings along with a fair amount of poultry. With heavy hearts, the three men helped the Am household board the ship.
The last images the recoding devices captured, were of the Am household burning their homes on their last trip, as they boarded the ship on their journey to their new home; their adoptive home was never to be seen again. Another device showed images of Omaki and Yousi, who were seen rigging the cavern with smart explosives, set to detonate if their sensors were triggered. Yousi held the remote in his hand, as he lifted the recoding device; the last of many that Argent had set up over the years. He often stated, that there should be a record of the mission, and of the great sacrifice the Am household had given, so far from home.
End Log...

Commander Darius hid the ship behind one of the many moons on the outskirts of Aristia's territories. He had been given several jars of mineral oils, and lotions from the Elder Class, that was to accompany the six medics. Also joining the crew were two Elders, as they concluded their aid may very well be utilized to strengthen Martin and Jake, should Riki and Iason need them. Darius was not very comfortable with these two men, who felt the same about him. The memory of Darius' betrayal was fresh in their minds, even if Lord Mink had spared, and forgiven him.
Gabriel was anxious to find Martin, and was relieved with the news that Lord Iason and the young Prince had reached them, and helped them heal. When word came to the medics, they broke down in tears, to learn they were near death. Several of them, in particular Gabriel- felt a sense of guilt for not staying together, when it might have made a difference. But they had no reason to fear for their safety on Aristia, the people were kind, and they were well liked, for their close association with Lord Iason and the young Prince.
The team now waited and watched, as the merchant ship left the atmosphere, and as expected, entered the Merchant's Path, hugging the beacons that marked and separated the part of space filled with wormholes. The Path of the Ancients. It was obvious they would not enter that region of space, and Darius was correct in his observations- they were heading for Rhea. Their ship continued to monitor the space chatter, and was surprised to hear them communicate with ship that held Martin and Jake.
“We have resupplied the ship Gerard, and we're underway once more. We should meet up with you in 3 days. We will cross near beacon 384 in the outskirts of Rhea's territories.”
“Very well, were you successful on Amoi? We don't need any loose ends.” Came the voice of Gerard. “We've had a slight setback with the prisoners, so we won't be able to interrogate them for some time.”
“What did you do Gerard?” Came the angered reply, “Did you kill one with your damn whip again?!”
“Mind your mouth Tagert, you're back talk won't win me over, I don't care if you are kin to Lord Bastian. Besides, those two have lasted a lot longer than your sorry ass would of.” Gerard's angry words hissed over the air. “Now get your ass in gear, and don't delay. Lord Bastian is expecting you to meet up with us as scheduled.”
“How the hell does he know where to look by the way?” Tagert spoke with all seriousness. “There's got to be thousands of beacons in that mess of stars, one wrong turn, and we'll be lost forever.”
“That is not something we should be discussing you idiot!” Gerard was now quite angry, “The prize at the end of the path, is not without it's dangers. Report to us when you are out of the Merchant's Path.”
Darius was shocked with what he heard. Did they have star charts for the Path of the Ancients? He quickly made some course adjustments in his navigation, and pressed the ship to pick up more speed. If this was true, then there would be no time to waste, the path was filled with hundreds upon thousands of beacons, and if he remained too far back, he might just lose them once they crossed over.
*~*~*
Omaki sat quietly in his quarters as Argent put away Yousi's things. He was confused; as he was told by Omaki, they were going to visit a group of their old friends, on a distant world. Omaki thought of his awakening, and how everything else in his life was no longer as important as completing his promise to Lady Yuri. He had only enough time to pack, and conclude his deal with Lord Steele, with regards to Enyu; and if truth be told, he didn't care about the exotic Pet anymore. Omaki's life had been a lie in the face of who he really was, and he needed to reconcile his past with his present life. Although he would have some explaining to do if Iason learned of the holopic.
He was happy he had accumulated a vast wealth in his establishment, the Taming Tower, but when he thought of the many Pets taken there for discipline, sport, or disposal, or the sale of such young men and women- it turned his stomach. He recalled the Am household, and Lady Annabelle, and her daughter Monique's life on a planet so far away. They have since been long dead in an age long past, and this made him sad.
They were alone, separated from their home, family, and the world they loved. He didn't even know how they died, or who lasted the longest. How different were they, than the Pets bought, and sold to strangers? At least these overpriced Pets were well fed, loved, pampered, and groomed like royalty. Like Enyu, whom he once loved passionately.
He watched Yousi's expressions, when the ship began to vibrate, and the stars became bright outside his portal. Yousi's eyes grew big, as the twin moons passed their view and just as quickly, became dots in their eyes. The ship was quite amazing, and Omaki couldn't help but wonder how much more, they could have done for the Am household, if they had a ship such as this, to shorten the distance from here to there.
Yousi pointed to a quickly fading Amoi, and trembled with excitement; he's never been off Amoi since he was altered. Argent sighed, as he recalled how brilliant the young Yousi truly was, and hoped his and Omaki's plan to bring him before Riki and Iason would bear fruit, and he awaken once again.
Omaki wondered about the data crystal, and how they would be able to navigate in the Path of the Ancients without it. He could recall the many beacons, and could see the path in his mind, but both he and Argent knew, only Yousi could navigate without hesitation. Otherwise, it would take nearly 3 days to get to Rhea, where he knew Yousi could do it in less time.
“Do you think our old friend is truly in there?” Argent pointed to Yousi, who smiled back. “He seems truly happy to be out in space, don't you think?”
“Yes, he seems to have come alive when he felt the ship's engines. I have not seen any indication of him awakening, but then again, I am not Lord Riki. There are things that young man can do, that I still can barely get my head around.” Yousi heard Riki's name, and spoke.
“Lord Mink's Pet is on board? T-That means, Lord Iason is also on board?” Yousi brightened up, “He likes to buy much of my intimate oils, and paddles.” Yousi blushed slightly, “He's a naughty Pet.”
Omaki could not help but laugh, as Yousi's innocence was bittersweet. The brilliant Blondie was just as intelligent as Iason, and yet, not even Jupiter caught on to his slow awakening. Sure, Jupiter birthed them all close in proximity, in order to have the right ages linked to Iason and Riki. But Yousi's great mind began to surface before everyone else; his mind block must have been triggered somehow, and was seen as betrayal by Jupiter.
“Yes, old friend, Lord Iason is on board, and so is Riki. But Riki is no longer a Pet.” Omaki tried to explain, but knew he would only confuse him more, if he tried to give him the real story.
“He isn't? Why not?” Yousi tilted his head, “I think maybe it's because he was always getting in trouble, maybe he just didn't want to deal with such an unruly Pet. But then, why is he here?”
“We will just have to ask Lord Mink won't we?” Argent smiled, “Now, do you want to take a look at the ship? I'm certain the pilot wouldn't mind.” Argent looked at Omaki, who nodded in approval. Perhaps more stimulation would do him some good.
“You know who else is here Yousi?” Omaki spoke, “Lord Heiku is also on board.”
“OH! I can't wait to see him! Does he also know our old friends? The ones we're going to meet..on..on...”
“On 'Le Fidelis,' Yousi.” Omaki whispered, “Does that name mean anything to you?”
Yousi paused, then looked at Omaki with the slightest glimmer of clarity. “I believe that means...The Faithful...does it not?”
“Yes, it does. There are many faithful friends there; it is a green planet, with many meadows, and great rivers and forests. There are wildflowers that held all the colors of the rainbow, and the sound of all sorts of birds could be heard singing. The sunrise is the most beautiful I've ever seen, and there are two small moons, but not close to each other like ours on Amoi. One is called "Erin," and the other....”
Omaki became quiet, as he recalled how truly beautiful the nights were. He looked at Argent, who finished his sentence.
“The other is called "Yuri." The two fair ladies that watch over all who sleep. They follow one another in the night, because one -Lady Yuri- watches them in the early evening, and the other -Lady Erin- watches them until sunrise.” Argent choked back tears, as Yousi listened quietly. But there was no reaction.
“It must be a beautiful world, if two fair ladies watch everyone sleep.” Yousi pondered, as Omaki brushed a tear away from his eyes.
“Yes, dear friend, it is a real gem in space, green like the many stones on one of the many naughty toys you sell from your shop.” Omaki teased.
“I love to see them sparkle, we have a hard time keeping them in stock, I call them my treasures.”
Omaki smiled. “Indeed, they are just as you say my friend. They are truly a precious treasure.”
Omaki rose and led Yousi down a long corridor towards the engine room, he seemed particularly eager to see it, and marveled at the soft hum, as if wondering how it all worked. He saw Raoul walking down the corridor with Lord Kai, and upon seeing him Yousi came to a stop.
“Lord Am? Are you also going to meet our friends on the green planet?” Yousi spoke softly, as he looked at Kai. He didn't know what to make of the tall Warrior, having never met such a man as he. He wasn't really aware of the importance of the grand gala, but recognized him.
“I remember you!” Yousi suddenly spoke, as the four Lords suddenly turned towards him, “You were with Lord Mink's Pet- Riki, and everyone was dancing!”
Omaki just about fainted when he called Riki a “Pet,” and looked at Kai who bristled at the remark. He knew it was not Yousi's fault, but nevertheless, Riki was his son and not a Pet.
“Er, well...um...Yousi,” Omaki panicked, “This is Lord Kai Oskuro, he is a very important person, who we don't want to bother right now, so let's continue our tour, and get you to the engine room. You wanted to see it remember?” Omaki glanced at Lord Kai, who's hair began to float, and whip about his head.
“Oh! Look Omi! His pretty hair is flying! He did that at the gala remember? I've never seen anything like that! How do you think he's doing it? I wonder if he can do magic tricks? I like magic...I remember seeing a very talented performer...”
“Yes, Yousi...let's keep going, never mind that! Oh look! Here we are, let's look at all the levers and flashing ...whatchamacallit's...” Omaki pushed Yousi into the engine room, as Argent bowed at Lord Kai, and quickly helped Omaki push Yousi through the hatch.
Raoul, wanted to laugh, but seeing Lord Kai rather angry, chose to clear his throat instead. Kai took a deep breath, and seemed to be counting, perhaps trying to calm down. He looked at Raoul, and when he saw him, Raoul turned his head, averting his eyes from his. He had to laugh, despite himself.
“You think this is funny do you?” Kai placed a hand on Raoul's shoulder, and squeezed it, rather tight. “I see your sense of humor is returning, I have to give you that. But if Lord Xu is not straightened out soon, I fear, Riki will not be too pleased with such a comment.”
“I agree, my Lord. It can't be helped.” Raoul smiled at Kai's predicament, “But if Yousi awakens, the young Prince will be spared the humility.”
“Indeed, let's hope that is exactly what happens.”
*~*~*
Thanx for reading my story! I hope you enjoyed it, please leave a review! -grins- See you all in the third book of this trilogy, "The Lost."
*~*~*
*~*~*

Thanx for reading my story! I hope you enjoyed it, please leave a review! -grins- See you all in the third book of this trilogy, "The Lost."
