The entire time they'd been eating, Ethan kept giving Wally looks.  It took a few of them before Wally noticed, looking up from the picnic basket he'd been about to open, to stare and catch one of Ethan's glances.  "Is something up, Ethan?" the younger of the two boys asked, quite quietly.

"No..." Ethan looked away, munching on a cookie, then turning back.  "I just, uh... you know.  I mean I know this was your idea and stuff, but... you sure you're not going to keel over or something?"

Wally's head tilted, looking across the picnic blanket at Ethan.  "Huh?" It was like Ethan's concern was lost on him.  The Johto trainer pursed his lips and grumbled something.

"I mean... your health.  I heard it's not so good, right?"

Wally shook his head, putting on a smile, happy to hear Ethan was concerned for him.  "It's all fresh air out here; I should be alright.  Thank you."

The earnest smile on Wally's face and in his voice caught Ethan off-guard, making him turn a slight shade of embarassed.  Then he shook it clear.  "I guess... listen, there's something I should tell you..."

"Sorry," Wally's smile hesitated just a little.  "Is... I mean, are you uncomfortable?  I-if you didn't want to--"

"No, no, that's not it!" Ethan shook his head quickly, trying to reassure the other.  "I mean, hell, I would've asked you out myself, you're kinda cute, you know that?" this time, it was Wally's turn to blush, drawing his knees up a little closer to himself.  "But, I mean, Silver will--"

"Silver?" Wally tilted his head, interjecting.  "Oh... you mean, you already have--"

Now Ethan got to interject.  "N-no!  Oh god no, No, No!, and Hell No!  We're not; well I mean, I'm not, but he's kinda got this, uh..."  Wally was quiet this time, waiting for Ethan to find the words.  "Obsession.  With me, I mean.  And not like in a romantic way, but it's still kind of this creepy stalkerish sort of way."

As he mentioned that, Ethan began to scan the fields around them for any sign of his red-haired rival.  Wally looked around too, completely uncertain of what this 'Silver' person looked like and so having no clue how or if he'd spot him at all.  In all honesty, though, they looked to be completely alone.

"I think we're safe," Wally noted.

"No we're not," Ethan shook his head.  "Silver likes to just show up out of nowhere." Even from the crest of the hill, without anywhere that Silver could suddenly spring from without being spotted, Ethan was sure he would somehow find a way.  It was just what he did.  He kept scanning the grounds, over and over - until he noticed Wally again, who looked a little crestfallen.  "Hey, something wrong?"

"No, I... it's nothing," Wally shook his head, but the boy's eyes were sad enough that even Ethan couldn't miss it.  The trainer scrambled across the blanket over to Wally's side quickly.

"Nothing, huh?" Ethan didn't have a clue, but there was always one answer to any and every problem in his mind - tackle it head on.  If Wally was depressed, he'd cheer him up - so he raised his arms and wrapped Wally up in them and drew him close.  The contact startled the frail youth, but only for a moment, before he relaxed against Ethan, the smile returning to his face.

"Yeah, nothing," Wally looked back up to Ethan, it being his turn to have his face heat up from embarassment.  Ethan was his age, but the other trainer, so much more accomplished, felt so much more secure to him; maybe it was his confidence that Wally could feel, that made him lean up against Ethan just a little more, staring into the other's eyes for a while.  They had so little color, but they were so solid.

And suddenly they weren't looking at Wally, but it took Wally a few moments to notice that.  Wally traced Ethan's gaze sideways, to the picnic basket that was slowly rising into the air.

It was seated atop the picnic blanket, which was rising into the air as something came up underneath of it, slowly.  Drinks and snacks tumbled aside, ending up in the grass - much to Wally's horror - as the blanket slowly formed around a shape that had to be a human's.

Ethan's voice broke the silence when the picnic basket stopped rising.  "Oh for the love of--"

With a flourish that sent the picnic basket flying from atop his head, Silver tore the blanket off of his head, rebalanced himself atop the Dugtrio he'd come in on, and with pokeball in hand pointed at Ethan.  "You.  Me.  Pokemon Battle.  Right now."
